I was a waiter and I never judged solo diners negatively. It was opposite feeling. I was so happy to see people go and eat a meal alone. It gave me a good feeling to serve them the food and drinks they wanted to eat.
I'm from merida and i've watched your videos for years!! I'm so happy you enjoyed your time here. As a local let me tell you that you hit the right places for food! The soup you had for dinner is Sopa de lima, it is a lime soup, but it's not the lime we all know, it's a special lime from this region and it's not so sour. The little strips on top were tostadas (deep fryed tortilla) Also the marquesitas is a snack we all love here, the traditional way to eat is just the waffle with cheese (the cheese is also a specific one called queso de bola) but nowadays it's pretty popular eating it with nutella
For me, travelling alone is the absolute best! I pretty much wouldn't have it any other way. I don't go to restaurants that often, (because I have a slight obsession with super markets and enjoy cooking for myself) but I always find it such a pleasure dining alone. There's something about tucking in, paying full attention to what I'm eating and the whole experience that is so enjoyable on my own. I recommend it!
For those sauce baggies, you’re supposed to snip or bite off one of the tips at the bottom so you can have more control of the sauce! It might sound unintuitive, but it works quite well.
Hi! Mexican here, loved your video and am glad you enjoyed your trip in Mexico! What you ate in the restaurant is called "Sopa de Tortilla" which is tortilla soup in english. Usually there are more garnishes to compliment it like fresh cheese, radishes and avocado. If you come back to Mexico, these are some tradicional foods I'll recommend that aren't tacos: -Mole: there are many flavors but the main ones are poblano and black, it is most commonly chicken with a thick sauce. -Pozole: it is a soup with slow cooked pork meat and corn with many garnishes, depending on the region the flavour varies. Chile relleno: it is a stuffed chile, the stuffing is as varied as tacos so there is room for a lot of experimentation but most people stuff it with cheese.
i'm not sure if you know about them, but there are these earplugs called loops, i have pair for myself that i use when i'm overstimulated or in a really noisy place. they're affordable and have 100-day return policy so i would deffo recommend checking them out :)
Well done Taz you’re so brave for pushing yourself and going out of your comfort zone! It’s very refreshing how real you are. It inspires me to do the same.
In Mexico we actually have all kinds of corn with different flavors, colors and purposes. We have your usual yellow sweet corn, which we mainly just use for like stew and stuff. We have white corn, which is very plain and we use it for a lot of very different things, like snacks, tortillas, pozole, etc. There’s blue corn, which is very earthy and mostly used for tortillas. There’s popping corn, for popcorn. There’s red corn but I haven’t had it and idk what it tastes like really.
Big cities and tourist hubs will have plenty of meat free options. Traditionally we do have some vegetarian versions of things, I just wouldn't get anything with refried beans because they might be cooked in lard; also expect your food to be quite hot because that's how we make up for the lack of meat
7 year plant based girl here: have been to Mexico twice travelling around and found it incredibly easy 😊 although some (few) menus may not have veggie options most restaurants are happy to just prepare something for you without hesitating a second. Since mexican cuisine is so versatile it is super easy to opt for meat alternatives e.g. simply substituting meat by beans , adding veggies ,....
I would love to solo travel or at least feel less anxious about travelling, mainly because of the language barrier. Any recommendations for how to make language barriers less of an issue when travelling/how to overcome this?
I would definitely suggest learning a few useful phrases like how to get shomewhere, how to find help (police, hospitals, etc.), how to order food and a few numbers to know how much you'll need to pay for something
As a mexican, I can say it depends where u eat, but most of the locals places are safety, but if u are really special for the place where u eat,I will just avoid the "mercados" not bc their not safety, they are just more messy with all the people around like the one in the video haha
If someone is anxious about going out to eat alone, would you say it's easier taking the camera as you don't feel so alone? Or do you think that's worse for people noticing you are alone?
Hey, so I know from some video of yours that you have anxiety and depression and I used to have anxiety too but now I don't anymore and that is because of Jesus Christ and if you call on his name and search for him you will find peace. I also never felt satisfied with anything in my life and I now know that a relationship with Jesus satisfied me truly and now I have so much joy that only Jesus Christ can give. And now I am free from anxiety and depression. So I hope this will reach you and some other people out there in the world. Psalms 94:19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Wow you tasting all these kind of Mexican flavors and spices, so cool this experience, and hats off for wearing such a beautiful blue dress, it just highlighted your beauty, actually you have became such a pretty woman!

Well, you couldn't be more wrong about everything. First of all, she's Welsh, not indian, just because someone's not white doesn't mean they're not from an English speaking country. Second, what do you think she did? Obligate locals to learn English so she could be more comfortable? It's obvious that she used a translator, although, and third, it wouldn't have mattered because where she stayed it's a very touristy place, so some of the places, shops and restaurants in Yucatán have employees who can understand and speak English without a problem.
I was a waiter and I never judged solo diners negatively. It was opposite feeling. I was so happy to see people go and eat a meal alone. It gave me a good feeling to serve them the food and drinks they wanted to eat.
That’s really nice. I travel solo a bit for work and there are fancy restaurants here in the US that won’t seat a solo diner!

elote = corn on the cob
esquite = corn in a cup
ps: girl you’re brave for traveling alone as a woman. so proud of you taz ♡
U do realize corn is from Mexico right? So there’s every type of corn available 😂

Chaotic.. in the best way
Over stimulated... In the best way..

Taz, in case you need it in the future, we rip the corner of those salsa bags with our teeth & use it that way hahaha.
I'm loving your Mexico adventures!!!
i want those tacos so badlyyy
Being in mexico without having tried to learn at least basic spanish is crazy to me 😭
She should've got Duolingo
When getting salsa in a bag. You bite the tip off to pour salsa on foods
Take a shot every time Taz says 'chaotic' haha

I have them and highly recommend them. I have ADHD and overstim then get stressed out with all the sound.
I'm loving your trip, thank you for sharing the cuisine.
I always see that in Mexico they put the Tajin spices and limon on mango! Maybe you could give that a try?! 😃
Yeah! We put Tajín and chamoy on top of almost every fruit, when I saw her eating the mango I thought "that needs chile" hahaha
I think you got a citrus green tea from lipton we have the same packaging for it in the US
Well done Taz you’re so brave for pushing yourself and going out of your comfort zone! It’s very refreshing how real you are. It inspires me to do the same.
corn is quite literally from mexico, you can get all the different colored kinds lol but yeah the corn for esquites is usually a pale yellow one
the corn in the cup is called esquites pronounced like es-kee-tess
what i eat in a day:
chips
chips + gravy
chips
chips
baked bean
chips

You should have tried the Mamey flavor! So much more authentic 😁 a recommendation for your next trip to Mexico or Central America 😉😊
The first mango you picked, the thin and skinny one is the sweeter mango.
Those are my favorite 🤤
seeing taz eat food IN BED is sending me through the roof...that wafer defo went everywhere
God I loved Mexico. When you get out of the resorts. Amazing people, excellent food.
What camera do you use? Or anyone that posts often, hoping to get better myself but a little clueless lol! ❤
I dont know abour her camera, but I really like DJI OSMO POCKET 3, several youtubers uses that.
Its marquesitas not masqueritas Hahahahha
You could be getting lime flavour and not lemon. Limón is lime in Mexico
You're wrong
Limón is lemon and Lima is lime
@@MinnieSunshine-hi6ie Nope, Lima is Lemon
I love Mexican cuisine I’d love to try it authentically but I’d be so worried about meat free/veggie options and if there is alternatives

We have a ton of dishes that are based on veggies and the meat could be an add on, so you should be able to find food pretty easily.
Thank you for sharing you cultural adventures with usssss ❤
