"Although on the TaunT channel I do already reaction videos, it was time to do some solo as well. Over here I can choose myself (at TaunT I never know what is coming) and I can go deeper into the lyrics from a mental health perspective . I will primarily react as a mom but I am also bringing my years as a mental health counselor on the table"
Most of all, I would love to react to all kinds of music and hope you will offer suggestions for songs you think I need to react to DM me on instagram.

And be honest … did you know about the two countries that have Christmas in January instead of now?

The first time I saw this video, the moment that leaped out at me with strongest emotion and chills was the closing scene where Par is carving "2021" in the cross and not "1914." For me, it echoed back immediately to the line in the chorus, "Our moment of peace in a war that never ends." Par is subtly reminding us, with the current date in the carving, that that war STILL has not ended. And probably never will. 😢

@MommaTaunT. Thank you for your sincerity, and kindness. I wish you a very Merry Christmas (as best as you can) - everyone is deserving of some joy in their life. I do know of the two countries which traditionally do not celebrate Christmas on Dec 25, but on Jan 7. One of those countries is now moving to celebrating on Dec 25 (so as to no longer be the same as the other country), and I too have close family in that country for whom Christmas shall not be as joyous as previous years - likely spent mostly in the dark and cold (ave 4 hours of electricity per day), not knowing when the next attack will come. I hope for the ongoing safety of all those innocents at risk, and that this war shall end soon. 🎄🎅🎁🔔❄ 🙏4☮

Many of the Men experiancing the Truce refused to fight the next day. Some went back to killing each other of course but a lot of them had to be reassined to another front in order to be part of the War again. It is not easy to kill someone you called friend just hours prior.

I went down late in the day on the 24th, struck in the engine I could not press on. My crate nosed over into shell hole, I came to much later. I could do nothing but hide, the madness of no-mans land reigns terror on those caught in it. Darkness fell, and an eternity lay before me as I plotted my way out. But something happened that night, a soul deafening silence fell upon the front, followed soon by a single voice in song. Not believing what I was hearing, I peered over the mangled wings covering my hole. I saw a single man, standing above the trenches, hands behind his back, singing as though his humanity depended on it. It filled me with a chill the night and snow could not give. Then more of his comrades stood to join him, and they walked onward, slowly and un-armed. I heard a heavy Scottish voice say; "Are ye a'right lad?". A highlander with his pipes was standing aside my hole, his hand extended. Without a thought, I responded: "Shaken, but not dead."
    "It's Christmas, Lad. C'mon."
I stood, and took his hand for help from the hole. Around me I saw what could be described as a wonderous occasion. Men of all sides stood in the desolation, talking in what tongues they knew as though there was no war. There was no hate, no blood, no malice, only cordial respect and humanity. I wondered then, what we were fighting these men for. It struck me then, that each of us had a job to do, but tonight we all refused to do that job and simply be human. The voices rose again in song, and the piper played as we walked to the gathering. I couldn't help but feel that there was hope for us afterall, that we are all the same, no matter our uniforms, our rifles, or our futures. Tonight is Christmas, tonight we sing.
    -Manfred von Schreiber.

It's never the people that want a war, it's never the soldiers who want the war, but it's always the leaders that make them go to war. Also, he who doesn't learn fromthe past is doomed to repeat it. Looking back is never a bad thing as long as you don't linger in the past. I am a major history nerd and I love digging through all the material that is at hand and I know ther are so many lessons to be learned and Sabaton is doing a great job telling me stories I have never heard of and make me want to dig even deeper. Thank you for the great reaction and I hope the conflict will be over soon

That's right, but be aware also that alot of history has been twisted and manipulated to fit the narrative of the victor and the forces who make it all happen- it takes alot of digging to get a clearer more truthful picture of what goes on in this world and who and what the real controlling hands are- we live in a world of lies and deceit from the powers that should not be- Sabaton did a great job with this music and video- very emotional !!

Sabaton have a fantastic team behind them fact checking all the historical themes for songs, this was an event that occurred along about 22 miles of the Front line, it happened when different groups of soldiers sang carols to keep up their spirits, these were heard by the other side and led to a truce (unofficial) along the front, afterwards many could not pick up their guns again and 3 days afterwards were replaced with fresh troops on both sides. Officially nothing was done though many were treat as deserters afterwards, the order went to both sides that should it happen again all involved would be shot for desertion, such a sad ending to a moment of clarity in one of the worst wars (in terms of fatalities) ever. This song gets me every single time I hear it, I wish all a wonderful Yuletide

There are a couple of other songs in the States that are similar to this one:
    1) Belleau Wood by Garth Brooks
    2) Snoopy and the Red Baron (based on the comic book series by Charles Schultz)
Both songs are excellent Christmas songs, as this one is. It is a lesson of history we should never forget, that even in the darkest of times, whether in the air (see: No Bullets Fly by Sabaton), or in the trenches, that as long as even one person holds onto hope, then the darkness can never overtake the light. That even in the most hellish of warzones, all it takes is one soldier to put down his rifle on Christmas and say, "Today....today is Christmas. Today I am not fighting. Today, shall be a day of peace."
    Lest we forget.
And to all those who read this, no matter where you are or what you believe, I very joyfully wish you and your family a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! Cheers from America!

Good observations - living in the present is so hard because we are always pressed to spend all our time regretting or being nostalgic for the past, and fearing or hoping for the future. Actually looking at the _reality_ of the past makes it easier to accept the good and the bad so we can get on with our lives right now, hopefully making more informed decisions - making the days count, as you say.
"Lest we forget" (from the poem Recessional, one of the very few pieces from Queen Victoria's Jubilee to oppose self-aggrandisement; it's about the impermanence of every Empire) may as well be Sabaton's motto. It's a worthy pursuit which has led to some great songs, making the information more accessible, and that's a very positive thing. All the best - hope 2023 is a good year for you.

They didn't just go back to fighting the day after this. They were tortured, executed, court-marshalled, and everything else nasty you can think of to force them or the soldiers around them to pick up arms again. The soldiers at this point of the war were not conscripts, they were volunteers. On both sides. After this truce (at several locations along the lines, but not all), the commanders simply cancelled holiday celebrations for the rest of the conflict so that peace wouldn't break out again.

This truce was not on the whole front. The Pope of that time had asked for a truce, but the leaders wouldn't have it. So at some places at the front the soldiers themselves stopped fighting and met in nomans land. After that had happened. The command had to relocate the men that had put there rifles down. Because the soldiers who had 'fraternised' with the 'enemie', were not able to fight the men they had met. To me that is telling me so much about humanity. And knowing that it makes this song even stronger en more meaningfull. It is a song of hope. And that is at the moment the only thing we can hold on to. So I hope all out lives willl get better.

While yes, this is about winter '14, the current battlefields are actually socially very similar - the European Powers thought of themself in the "Last Summer" of '14 as a cultural unit, politically differentiated, but culturally a unit, estranged brothers but brothers (in the case of the rulers actually truth, they where branches of a family essentially).
And without any condemnation of any side, the current war is socially the same and it might very well end up in it's outcome to be divisive for another 50 years if the Gods are not kind.
Every War in Europe has been like this for the past 1600 years, maybe more, and it is the great tragedy that we mostly fight those who are essentially the same and blow up slight and minor differences in culture and language into hereditary hate...
    Seasons Greetings

Hi mom! It seems you haven't heard about Christmas and Ukraine, Ukraine has belonged to the Russian Orthodox Church but Ukraine no longer wants to belong to the Russian Orthodox Church after the highest priest of the Russian Orthodox Church supports and has blessed Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine. So the Orthodox Church in Ukraine has moved the Christmas celebration from January 7th to December 25th.

I have a friend in Ukraine that still has Christmas on the 7th , and I do know about the history. The church moved it in November , but not everyone has agreed with that . It’s a mess however you look at it 😥

@@MommaTaunT I heard the other day about this on the Swedish news. I have a friend and she is from Ukraine, although she and her husband moved to my city Kiruna (farthest up in Sweden above the arctic circle), their relatives came from Ukraine and first lived with them before the relatives got help with their own accommodation. Sweden has received many refugees from Ukraine and so has my city Kiruna. It is terrible this is happening in 2022.

@@MommaTaunT I, too, have people close to me who are affected, who have fled both(!) countries to get away from the war. What you said was heart-warming, because all too often, people forget about the common people, the common soldiers, who did not choose to go to war themselves, who don't support their leaders. I've thought about the same thing and I've wished so much for a New Year's Truce (a much more regarded holiday), but I know it won't happen. Thanks for reminding people about the complexities of war and for taking a stance against war and not against ordinary people.
