We were there with an objective, the best of my child. But in meetings with multiple parents i heard the mist idiotic things... Demanding unreasonable things.

      No Child Left Behind 2001 G W Bush (R) The repercussions of making schools "accountable" for student academic success.
      Most laws that have been enacted for very good reasons have led to schools to fear parent law suits against school systems.
      The identification of a disability is often used by parents as an excuse for the child's behavior. The schools are by law prevented from denying an education by suspending or expelling students with IEP's and 504 Plans because that would break the law that schools must educate children in the "least restricted environment".
      I am a retired teacher with a child with multiple handicaps. I am not against the IDEA law, I remember when my local MS taught mentally retarded students in the furnace room. The law was created to prevent such unfairness and injustice.
      But the MS I later worked in had a group of about 20 "emotionally disturbed students". The school also had 20% English as a Second Language, and 17 self-contained children with severe intellectual and physical handicaps. Together these mostly innocent children were responsible for the school not being able to increase the student academic success. So 25% of the student body is able to tank the whole schools ranking. That is because they take those standardized tests the school and government love so much. Transparency and accountablilty. Yeah.
      Also schools in poor districts are encouraged to take on ED students because they get more money in the budget for school programs. That is why schools in wealthy areas don't have these problems.
      I'm not sure why good and well intentioned laws don't work out when implemented. And why lawmakers never seem to be able to adjust what is not working as intended.

      Lawless children are sent to schools, liberal public schools are expected to bend all rules to accommodate them, change rules, amend well-proven procedures, policies and practices to have everyone adapt to their entitled lawless behavior. Then we place teachers in no-win situations, blame them for not "making it work" and everyone wonders why teachers, especially good teachers, leave and the vast majority of public schools are a complete mess. America allowed the ship of public education to begin sinking when leftists took over the system. Like all major cities that are unlivable, colleges that are out of control and politicians and wealthy liberal donors facilitate the chaos, we have all watched this nightmare unfold and done nothing.

    I have not seen the videos but it sounds as if the nature of the assault and other acts are beyond any notion of acceptability. If teachers do not feel safe in their classrooms, they will leave the profession. I am old and grew up in the 60s and can't imagine what would have happened to me if I had in ANY way been disrespectful to a teacher. I don't know enough to say if the parents should be charged but if some liability was placed on parents for unruly, mis-raised children, we might begin to see some improvement.
    My mother was a pubic school teacher and had this happened to her, I would likely be in jail today.

    • @rdh53
      @rdh53 20 дней назад

      @@donnabartley2246 Thank you for responding. I fear that the student would have taken a taser from her and used it to torture her (and perhaps other students.). Like you, I have thought about what steps teachers could take to protect themselves and finally realized that the problem is that the administration has failed miserably if a child has reached this point and is still in a classroom. I am amazed that there are any teachers left. I suspect that the defendant-child has bullied other students to the point that they feared to step up and help. Thankfully, at least one student secretly recorded this incident as I do not think that words would have had the effect that the video did.
      As previously mentioned, my mother was a public school teacher. She once read an article and shared it with me. It was humorous at the time. It said that most teachers were hardly prepared to teach; in fact, it said most teacher had never learned use a whip and a chair, fire a gun, or wield a baseball bat. It was funny 50 years ago. Now it is reality.
      It has reached the point that classroom discipline must become the main priority of the public schools. There can be no meaningful instruction in a place where violence of any sort is tolerated. In NC, every child has the constitutional right to a public education. Sadly, many parents (those who can afford it) are sending their children to private and Christian schools because the guaranteed right to a public education is meaningless in an environment of chaos. In the video, I saw am out of control classroom which had to be known to the administration. Obviously, they felt powerless to take the necessary steps to control this group of students.
      I am so frustrated. Thank you for caring.
