I'm sorry but I think the Historic Preservation office needs to get their act together and start showing some compassion or, at the very least, some flexibility. If they are so hell-bent on preserving homes and abandoned buildings because said structures meet maybe 2 out of 16 qualifiers, then maybe they need to start thinking about actually doing something to justify retaining nearly-obsolete structures by making the appropriate renovations instead of making regular citizens and business owners continue to suffer (and spend their hard-earned dollars) and wait for City action. So, what's the HP office planning to do with these "historic" dilapidated buildings? Leave them as is? What's historic about the last standing wall of a building that has all but collapsed??? Unless something truly amazing and world-changing happened on the property or in the building itself, why keep it standing? Demolish it, put up a historical marker with a picture of said structure in its heyday and let the folks of this city move on with their lives, their plans, and their dreams. Simple as that.

3 walls and it's deemed historical ?? City council don't you have better things to take care of ?

I know one thing. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who hears about this story is gonna ask “What the hell is the city government doing to these poor people?”. This looks like abuse of power by incompetent city officials.

Just tell that poor family to claim that the building is racist… They’ve torn down statues of great figures in history for that same reason…jus sayin

Knock it down! It’s time to let it go. Because if you fight it, then they will close thier doors for good a not rebuild anything.

Being designated a historic landmark should not be forced on private property owners. Not everyone has the Alamo's budget.

If the city wants to keep the building an historic preservation site, why not buy it from the family at 120% of current market price? That way, they can go about their business and have a little extra as an apology for all the trouble they've been out through.

The historical society may need to look at safety rather than preservation...the Lim family is and has the best interest towards it's customers and community...what must be found in that cattleman square is a location that house homeless..in the shadows of those old warehouse's..so again a property owner ...looks at another avenue to try to correct blight in what is considered historical...2011 HEB bought out an old neighbor hood building on Flores and knock down ..what many Tejano recording artist consider historical..the old KEDA recording studio building...so where was this historical society then...it's certainly..a double standard to which ...a historical board ..given to be an asset to preservation can consider the dangers to hollow out building falling on people...they can preserve through video and photos..collect what was.. on a medium that preserve history safely...that area also where VIA purchase property to build the bus terminal..such examples of a bygone era are still evident...the one thing historical or not is safety.. history can be preserve..but the board must consider the community and legal obligation an owner is held under..plus in all this is the Lim family....it will be through the court that they look to improve an area that Via had done establishing the metro hub in an area that has seen better days... San Antonio especially downtown area must be allowed to create a dynamic vision ..like the Frost bank building..I cannot think of the Lim family..without the times enjoying the great food at the Golden Star...my hope is the court will see ..that historical preservation board lacks vision .. regularly bends to high individual corporate pressure...allowing demolition to which is advantages..to them...it's about time small business owners..get a fair judgement to continue growth and commitment to the community of San Antonio...for the Lim family I pray they win .. to my many generations that have enjoyed your restaurant..peace.

These "Family-Owned" restaurants are in a piece of America! 🇺🇸
I find it disgraceful that the city is not interested in facilitating a functional, contributing piece of iconic American history.

The government wants preservation of old establishments , from the historic perspective, it’s a request and suggestion not a law
Privately owned businesses should be able to remodel and rebuild at their will

If the city wants to hold on this warehouse, they should buy the property frist from this family.

Heres a solution... either renovate the building for preservation or knock it down.... should be easy to make that decision. allocate the funds by sponsorship of local companies and then promote that group for a few months on local networks an on their media accounts. Bam. Every avenue can be thought of if you think more into it.... Lazy minds.

She didn't excellent job in her reporting.
And thank goodness she did report on this really TRAGIC situation for this family 😿
This really breaks my heart, this is so wrong.
This Family has been a part of American society and culture for decades now. Longer than some Americans who oppose them.
It just really breaks my heart because this is the land to be shared by all and we need to help each other not destroy one another 😿

Why tf does it matter how long a building has been standing??? That doesn’t make it historical, it just makes it old and unsafe. So dvmb.
