I doubt the prices of Genshin Impact will ever change, however, I do hope for some monetary changes to happen in the future such as :
    • Lowering The Pity from 90 to 60 for Characters and 80 to 50 for Weapons.
    • Increasing the amount of Primo's we get from Quests, Chests, Events, Battle Pass, Welkin Moon and/or Daily Commissions.
    • Adding more End Game Content that Rewards Primo's, like Spiral Abyss.
    • Adding more Events that Rewards Fates for Participating, instead of just Primo's.
    • Bringing Back the Daily Attendance Event more frequently to reward Fates and Primo's to players.

Well talking about characters and etc, i really don't think so, because i came from another Chinese gacha game ( Identity V ) and i became very surprised of how Genshin impact gacha is cheap and fair comparing to Identity V, with 10 pulls you have a guaranteed 4* character/weapon, with in max 90 pulls you can get a 5* character, not to mention that you don't lose pulls from banner to banner, meanwhile in Identity V, for one A skin ( the equivalent of a 4* rarity ) you need to do 60 pulls on gacha, and a S skin, absurd 250 pulls!!! Not to mention that the pulls goes to zero from sphere to sphere ( banner to banner ) and the cost of a wish is also absurd, 488 clues ( the equivalent of primogens, clues is easier to acquire than primogens, but it doesn't compensate the insane value ) for a single pull, and 4888 for 10 pulls! So imagine spend 4888 25 times to get a skin for your favorite character? And in only one time because if you need just 1 pull to get your skin and the season ends, bye bye hundreds of clues you've spended, all to the trash, the game style is completely different from Genshin, on aesthetic and gameplay, but still very annoying and unfair, in Identity V we don't have the 50/50 system, but if you lost the 50/50, again, if, you will need to spend max 180 pulls to get your favorite character, what still less than 250, not to mention the save pulls that you already did, in Genshin Impact the welkin moon blessing is pretty cheap to be honest, in my country can be very expensive, to compare, imagine that you have to spend 27,90 dollars on a welkin? Yeah, in my country we need to spend this value, but not in dollar of course, can be pretty expensive for some people but for others not, it's just an equivalent question, everything depends on your financial conditions and the country where you live in, I'm a non rich latin american person, I'm pretty poor to be honest, i can't spend hundreds of dollars in games, but at least welkins and some other little things i can buy with no worries, and for me is worth, because the primogens that i can get make things very very easier to me, principally on get resources like characters and weapons to get a better gameplay, the genesys crystal prices are abusive to me, that's why i never recharge crystals, only welkin, so for me you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars to have a good time playing Genshin, even as F2P, being fair, to get one 5* characters are pretty F2P friendly, collecting resources too, but getting 5* weapons and 5* copies, that's completely P2P

Used to be a F2P here, just spent on Welkins this patch because I really want Xiao, but that's the only reason. I don't think I'll spend again after this patch. I've played for a year and have a comfortable amount of characters that I can build, and clear every current content. Never felt the need to spend because the game is easy enough, and doesn't have much end-game content. The fact that they don't remove characters out of the pool once maxed constellation and the amount of money required to guarantee a banner's 5 star make it not worth it to spend a lot on, even for collecting purpose. So far I've got like C9 or something Noelle 🤨

I feel like one good way to solve this issue would be to have characters available in the Paimon's Bargains consistently. Like how in Cookie Run games have Mileage Points and if you do 10 pulls but don't get what you want, you can just save up the mileage points and get it for sure. They already sort of have that with the solid stars you get whenever you pull a duplicate character, but it just isn't at a reasonable rate AND the characters you can get change often so by the time you have enough the character is gone. I feel like if they changed this function fans would be a lot more forgiving of the gacha greed tactics, and they'd make the same amount since you'd still do several pulls. Possibly more since you'd have a solid goal to work towards and feel certain you will get them

I'm a F2P player, most of my primogems came from quests, event, explorations and hangouts. To be honest, I really wanna spend on this game but I'm still on highschool and I have to still rely on my parents for money so I can't afford to waste anything for a game.

That last bit about alienating F2Ps is SO true. I play 3 gacha games. Genshin, Blue Archive and Azur Lane. The only game out of them that I have repeatedly spent money on is Azur Lane.
Azur Lane's devs are the best I have seen for any game, I actually WANT to give them my money. I have given them hundreds.
Genshin on the other hand, the conversion rate of dollars to wishes is SO stingy that I don't want to give them money. I have at the start of the game, I bought the welkin twice...and you know what? I regret that purchase. I don't regret the hundreds I have put into Azur Lane, but those 2 welkins I will always regret.

The 50/50 aspect also just kills me. It's not even just losing, it's losing and getting a Qiqi or your 5th Diluc. Getting a 5 star, even if it's a permanent one, is supposed to feel like a reward, but with how many times Diluc has shown up for me, it feels like a punishment. What's the point of paying for pulls if it'll just mean getting another Diluc? He's a character I don't like nor have any interest in playing.
I wish that there was some kind of option where, when you lose your 50/50 on the event banner, you can take what's offered, or you can get some kind of currency that, when you have like 3 or so, can be used exclusively for a permanent 5 star of your choosing (or even a 5 star weapon). Make it a rotating shop if they have to, and limit it to permanent options, but I'd rather take 1/3 progress to another Mona than get any more Dilucs or Qiqis.
MHY makes so much money from Genshin and whenever you criticize them and suggest that they could benefit from being more generous, you get mouth breathers who are all "yOu MuSt Be NeW tO gAcHA GaMes" like damn you live like this?
And being "better" than other gachas in that regard is an _incredibly_ low bar to clear and is not an accomplishment. It doesn't make Genshin less predatory--and that's assuming that Genshin being 'better' is even true in the first place. Most other gachas offer more free pulls and have significantly higher chances on getting chars, though they lack the pity and 50/50 systems.

I can't wait for genshin to fade out so it becomes more playable, seems like the problem is that there's too much people, specially in China and Japan, willing to pay a lot of money for it so it makes sense to Mihoyo to implement this "punish the poor" system but when whales migrate to another game Mihoyo will have to make the game f2p friendly or close their servers.
Also I have 2 qiqis, 2 Keqings and 1 Dilluc that I don't use, It would be nice if they´d let you choose something like you said or at least choose the character from the permanent banner, I wouldn't mind to loose 50/50 and get a Mona or a Jean on my own accord, like I could loose 6 banners and be happy cause I have a c6 Mona but now, I just have qiqis and keqings sitting there unused

    • @MorgenPeschke
      @MorgenPeschke 2 года назад +190

Honestly, I'd be happy if they dropped characters from the pool once you hit C6, rather than giving some currency.
That way, the most you'd ever see Qiqi was 6 times, and it'd be much more feasible to collect all the characters.
It might even be good bait for the giga whales if running out of regular characters meant you get a chance at a character from a banner you missed.

As a long time player, the value of Genshin is something I often think about. I'd classify my spending as plankton. Not zero, but might as well be. I actually want to spend, but the returns on the options given are so low, it feels almost pointless.
A wider question for gaming in general is what is a game worth? Before mobile era, you mostly pay for a title once up front and you're done. I know development models have moved on since then, for example with season passes and DLC. Is value over time a good metric to judge a game on? I don't have these answers.

As a F2P i don't see alot of value in Genshin outside the Plot/Fun Setting...i saved some primos and the first character that i pulled was Ganyu and to this day she still kills whatever the game throws at me(and i also have Ayaka, Hu-tao and Eula), there's nothing else to do daily/weekly that i need to maximize the damage of all my characters or even build them, i think 10 characters are enough and leveling characters doesn't help you leveling other characters faster, you are stopped by the artifact RNG and Resin cap and very shitty drops and Quest rewards.
To answer your question, i value games in how fun i think the game is, my oldest example will be Castlevania SOTN, that game was literally the first platformer i finished and the replayability of that game was insane, and most recently was RE2 remake/Prey 2016 games that i enjoyed to learn all the mechanics until the point i could finish a run in just over 1 hour and 10 mins in RE2, in both cases the gameplay was the main point, but in the end felt really complete experiences and replaying them was also fun, i think that a game has value if you can play it alot and always have fun

I think the era of microtransactions and dlcs truly started when games moved into the online system - which encourages multiplayer and comparisons. Old games were pay upfront and play during the single player focused era but now companies have to invest in maintaining servers which means few games are complete at start but would rather add DLC or content as time goes on to incentivize continued spending. This has enabled a lot of the predatory and gambling practices in gacha as well as other games

At the end of the day it's like vars said, how expensive a game is is mostly situational to the player. I've seen f2ps who have at least one c6 (mostly ganyu or shogun for some reason) limited character with the other few five stars they have being only c0. Makes sense to focus on the character you like the most and save for their max power if it's not possible to afford all others reliably. FOMO is lethal because if you waste the little resources given for free going after every five star then the game will definitely feel expensive - even for a whale.

    • @EB_3693
      @EB_3693 2 года назад +1

That and plus doing a lot of pulls after a period of saving tends to do things to the rng... i.e where you get a five star in one 10pull after a previous five star, sometimes two five stars in one ten pull, or reaching pity early so technically not impossible to c6 if this + winning 50/50 happens consistently.

If anything i think it’s backwards, new gacha players were the ones acting like anniversaries have to have giant rewards a lot of people even clamoring for a free 5 star, when gacha veterans realized that was completely out of the question. Comparing fgo’s first anniversary to now where they bascially only gave 20 pull in the form of 30 Sq and 10 tickets and a lucky bag which is a guaranteed 5 star but you have to use paid premium currency to pull so it’s not even free. Even before the controversy genshin was giving us 10 pulls as well as other basic materials, given it’s much lower pity rate, that was well within that standard of first anniversaries for gacha. Now the current anniversary FGO is about to get gives 30 pulls immediately, adds missions that provide up to 40+ more pulls and if you’ve done all the story quests in the game by the time the anniversary drops you automatically get a resource thay can be exchanged for 50 more pulls.

But, the rewards that were given were fairly basic and so many players were annoyed with this so they trashed the reviews for the mobile version and it just made the game look like complete trash in every aspect when they were really just annoyed about the rewards. I have about 6 characters that are 5 star and I got all of them very quickly. You can get 50/50 chances which means that you have a 50% chance of getting another 5 star on a limited banner and this happened to me recently as I had already gotten Kamisato Ayaka and I then got Kaedehara Kazuha a few days ago. That was a 50/50 that I actually won. It seems like every other 50/50 is a loss though, I have lost so many 50/50s it feels like and though I haven't spent thousands on this game, I have a maximum constellation 5 star, I think it's Qiqi and I did spend some money to try and get Raiden Shogun and Xiao but lost each time to Qiqi believe it or not lol

The extremely low primogem gain through One-Time achievements, quests, chests, teleport points etc. The 1 billion primogem web event, which turned out to be a complete lie as people got up to 3 tiers of primogem rewards with the lowest being 108, I think. The anniversary and its immediate knee-jerk reaction for damage-control by the company (the rewards we were given were supposed to be part of a pack to be purchased for 30$ or somesuch). Streamer events that shaft the streamers or do not reward enough. 30 fucking primogems for completing the Spiral Abyss with full marks.
I get that it is a gacha game, but holy fuck does it feel like MiHoYo loves to spit in our face and make fans do all the marketing work for them FOR FREE. WIthout paying fans that put a lot of effort into their works. You also have to remember this game is built for China first and the rest of the world second. That's where the problem lies. Other mobile games don't have this problem because they build for the global market and then just do what China wants for them. As long as they develop in China, it will always be this way. Get use to it or play something else till more content comes out.

I feel like u are right about making it more generous doesn’t necessarily mean that they will lose money.I feel like PGR is a good example of this that, yes you may not get everything but it’s at least generous enough to give enough resources and time to try and save for the char I want in a short period of time especially since all the chars u will pull for come in 60 pulls most of the time and the weapon u want in 30 pulls. But people still pay to get everything even tho it’s not much of an obligation mainly because they chose to support the company even tho they are generous with their prices.

I agree, PGR sets a good balance on spending. Never in the almost year the game has been released in GLB have I been pressured to spend, unlike nearly every other gacha I've played... A lot of their gacha lets you choose your uprates (minus S rank frames). I'm very happy with this system, I happily buy lots of limited skins and monthly when I can instead.
They might not be raking in the most money because of it... but they do show lots of love to their game. The current CN patch Surviving Glimmer is insane... ~6 hour long story, so many more CGs than usual and live 2Ds, BG music, and an insane amount of character development in one patch for a single character.

@Yosep Ryan Agusta In most gacha games the developers are very generous when it comes to their anniversaries. So they give something obviously something special for the occasion or they have massive sales/outfit/characters.
But in Genshin's case, the rewards were, to put it nicely, mediocre. There were no real differences between the new player login and the anniversary gifts. On top of that, to get more rewards it is locked behind a send-a-wish event where winners are chosen randomly and an art contest. Another gacha albeit there were many small rewards unrelated to the anniversary.
But the fact that chosen art submissions will be featured and excites the artist with primogems, it's sorta like free marketing. It's both disgusting but also genius because Hoyo is actually a really small company. You can see how people have divided opinions.

I've been saying it almost since launch: Genshin's primogem income, both from event/daily stuff and from all the one-time content (chests, achievements, quests etc.) is way too low, especially the latter
If those were better, not only would Mihoyo have less of a bad reputation for being greedy, since a majority of gacha games' income comes from whales, raising stuff like chest primogem drops to a much higher level won't affect whale spending much at all, because if you give every player 20$ worth of primos more per month, whales who spend 1000$ a month will spend 980$, or perhaps even more as the game is more player friendly, and in the same way would more players be convinced to spend money in general

The impact of high cost goes beyond Genshin as well. I do spend on Genshin, even knowing they charge way too much. And that includes for things I don't spend for, like resin refills. Which is another area they are way too stingy in, just at what $$$ they seem to value resin at. But I digress. Because of Genshin, I'm not interested in playing any other Hoyoverse title. This differs from Hypergryth, for example, where I not only spend on Arknights, but I started playing, and also spending a bit in, Azur Lane in part because they are much more reasonable of a company. And a step further still, I don't recommend Genshin to my friends. In fact, if asked about it, I am generally critical of the game. A game I play, and enjoy playing, but one I won't recommend.
That said, well, the games at the top are the ones that whale hard while still also having a large player base, so ripping people off seems to pay well.

    TLDR: Yes.
    Long:
When buying a genesis crystals for a wish it costs 2,64€ per wish. The EU already gets 16% less Genesis Crystal per $ US than the US. And it ignores the fact that Genesis Crystal packages amount do not align with Primo Gen costs per wish which results in another loss.
At a hard pity of 90 you pay 237,50€ for a 5* and then you have only a 50/50 of getting what you want. In a worst case scenario it would costs 475,50€ to buy what you want.
That is way too much, like unbelievable too much.
Welkin Moon is actually a decent deal. Fully utilized for wishes it gives 3000 Primos for 4,99€ in 30 days, which translate to 18,75 wishes for 4,99€, at 90 wish pity a 5* then costs 23,95€. Which is still expensive but no longer outer world expensive.
The downside is it requires daily login which of course plays into the hand of Hoyoverse by building a habit and therefore increasing your chances of suffering from sunken cost fallacy. It also means you only be able to actually buy for the 5* you want at 100% pity every 288 days which is ridiculous on its own.
It basically alleviates a design choice by Hoyoverse of not granting the player a free wish per day, with Welkin and the F2P Primos you get exactly 1 wish a day if you use the 300 Genesis Crystal for wishes only. Hoyoverse is selling the solution for a problem they created.
Granted 90 wish pity rarely occurs. The chances increase rapidly from 70 wishes onwards, for normal pulls its far more likely to get a 5* between 70 and 80 wishes than between 80 and 90 and there will be some 5* scattered around at low wish numbers such as ~40. The actual average 5* per amount of wishes is probably between 65 and 75.
    Still too expensive.
A 5* of your choosing should costs no more than 60€ and that is already giving them the benefit of accepting ridiculous video game prices. In reality a 5* is probably only worth 2 to 5€ in terms of labour costs etc. Considering the user base the game would still be profitable.

The number of primos I got last month was over 7k, which is just over 43 and you have to remember here that I didn't do exploration or quests, and this was during the delay which means no events and would match up with the baseline. You can easily get around 55-60 fates each patch considering that one patch is 6 weeks. This means that you have just less than a 50% chance to get a 5* character every patch. You’d think I could own a copy of every characters yet I still have to sacrifice some banners just to get another and I’m still thinking abt their value. I can’t even roll casually for their weapons to optimise and in Genshin’s existence I have less than 5 5* weapons.
I’d argue getting BP+Welkin should provide you already the bare minimum which is at least pulling the featured character at c0 for the primos you get so you don’t miss out and the constellations be the one that are premium.
But rn even if the equivalent of BP+Welkin price is an expansion pack, you still can miss out on getting that “expansion” pack which are the new characters and weapons and that proves how stingy the current system really is

      @Misspellednumbers 2 года назад +6

@@zodiacsagittarius344 I say that what you want is impossible now. If Mhy was to give you a guaranteed c0 featured character through Welkin and BP, the stuff we have to do would get 10x harder than they are now, and pricier. After all, the gacha would lose some value from no longer relying on the "missing out" tactic. People who spend up to $180 on a guarantee c0 could turn into $15. That's a $165~ loss for just one person.
So it'd be natural on Mhy's end to maximize profits off BP, while also making it harder for us.
Had they done it back during release, or even further back during investor talks, it likely would've been more reasonable. But now, it's impossible they'd ever do it without some sort of higher (or same) return.
**Also, they would still play into the missing out tactic, now that I realize. But instead of not having enough primos, it's "can you do 50-100 levels within __ days?" It becomes less of how much money you want to spend, and more of how much time can you dedicate every patch to Genshin.

Something I noticed is that most f2p rewards become kinda scummy in late game. If you exclude events you eventually notice that you always get just barely not enough primos for even a single pull. 60 primos a day means you wont be able to do one single pull for 3 days. Real life days. And in the late game abyss? If you struggle your way through an entire floor? 150 primos, oof so close, you almost got a single pull out of 90 needed. Same for late game rank rewards, isnt AR 60 also 150 gems?
Without events and skipping many banners you really get heavily shafted by this game if you dont spend. The game is expensive and impressivly unloving towards the f2p crowd.
And I have seen people call f2p players parasites who do nothing for the game except leech of it etc. Making you feel painfully unwelcome in the community. When in reality the game makes enough money off its whales to not go bankrupt by the free to play people who are being pressured into spending.

Yes, yes it is. In my opinion a "low spender" with Welkin, BP and some shopping every now and then (so around 250euro/year and that's the price of 3-5 brand new complete games) should have access to just everything, every new character and weapon, even if just one copy each, with constellations and refinements for the whales. But with that amount of money atm you barely get MOST new characters, and you can't even touch the weapons banner at all. Of course you can do everything in the game with just that and you don't really NEED to own everyone and everything (you can even do that as a complete F2P), but it dosen't really feel you're getting yours money's worth back.

Why is it that people are so fixated on pulling every new character that gets released? The ability to get a newly released character isn't a very good metric for how p2w a game is. Many people don't want new characters and over half of all people skip the new banner. Not to mention the time it takes to build every character would take over a month, meaning that it's impossible to even build everyone you get and be able to play them. There are also many reruns that not only give you another chance to pull people but also an opportunity to skip and save primos if you already have them. Also, the weapon banner is pretty much a big scam, they make specialized weapons for the new 5* which sucks. The big point of pulling on the weapon banner is being able to use the weapon on other people but it just feels bad if they specialize it for one person. Try to really avoid the weapon banner.

Well everyone knows the answer to that one haha.
I think a big problem the Genshin community has is trying to live up to standards that simply don’t matter when looking at the big picture.
Even extremely useful upgrades like Kazuha and Raiden C2 can only do so much for a player in an easy game. This is a realization I fortunately came to before I could’ve spent 100 bucks on the aforementioned Kazuha C2
It is nice to have upgrades, but at a rather early point they end up just becoming bigger numbers for the sake of bigger numbers. Everybody already knows this (that the game is easy) but it seems to be often glossed over in practice
I’m sure anyone reading this has seen comments such as this hundreds of times, but yet I reiterate: Use your favorite characters. Use your favorite comps. It’s ok if you want to follow the meta, or if you want to use something with no synergy. Whatever is fun is the best course of action in my opinion
I hate when people say that in competitive games, and in such an environment, it’s not as simple as picking your favorites. But this is an easy game. So do your best to avoid FOMO and exercise patience. If upgrades really matter a lot to you, buy Welkin. That thing is actually a good deal

Though I haven't spent a dime and I have plenty of team comps I can try and mix and match if I want to. I also want heizou once he comes out he'll get my r2 widths if I get him. I find wish simulators help as well. Because you just instantly wish on them with no worries about spending money on them. I'm very patient and can do my best for my guys. EVERY SINGLE gacha game gradually add new 6/5 stars into the pool for both standard and limited banners, except for limited characters that are introduced during important events like anniversaries or given for free through game events. That way, at least when you lose the 50/50, you get the chance to obtain some strong characters you missed from previous banners.

If we look at other industries, ones with even harder models for buy-in from consumers like brick and mortars we can clearly see that quantity is far superior to quality in generating revenue. Wal-Mart is by far the largest retailer, Toyota is far an away the largest car company. Even a 20% decrease in the price might result in huge increases in revenue for MiHoyo and it blows my mind how they haven't done this, they keep records of all transactions and could easily "compensate" big spenders with free rewards to make up for a price decrease and then reap in the profits of potentially 100 times as many customers

As a complete f2p that started playin around 2.3 I have to say I am a bit frustrated on the rewards Hoyoverse gives to f2p players through daily commissions and events. Don't misunderstand I do appreciate the rewards Genshin gives us players but it is really annoying to save up for a character . For example, The Spiral abyss gives you at most 600 primo gems ,if you can 36 star it which is already kind of hard, which is only... 4 pulls for beating the hardest content in the game ! In my opinion that is pretty insulting to essentially get 4 pulls for spending time leveling up your characters, grinding good artifacts for those characters, using ok to good 4 star weapons , using the limited 5 stars you have/grinded for , and then beat the floor with the right time limit just to not even get guaranteed a 4 star . And when you do pull for the character you wanted you get shafted by the 50/50 with a character/constellation you didn't want or need and be left with no more primo gems. I wish Hoyoverse would at least give us players more rewards for spending time playing the game to the fullest instead of giving crumbs to those don't spend money. I understand that the game is easy enough where you don't have to 36 star the abyss, but as a player who enjoys the game I want 36 star the abyss with my favorite characters but since I don't have a Kazuha, Raiden Shogun , Sucrose, Hu Tao, and other optimal characters I can't do it consistently but when I do it is kind of a slap in the face to only get a small amount of primo gems and it is very discouraging to play the game. All in all I still enjoy playing the game through domains, exploration, and sometimes co-op I do have fun playing Genshin Impact but with Spiral Abyss being the only endgame content I want to be rewarded a bit more for challenging myself. If you read this far thanks for reading I know this does come off as ranty , but I do love this game that's why I keep playing it even though content feels dry. I just wanted to state my opinion on how Hoyoverse should at least let players be rewarded for playing the game Spiral abyss is just my main example because a lot of people play it but commissions and achievements could also be improved. Thanks for reading this far and reading about my experience.

yes players should have some responsibility and self-control (keep in mind that a massive chunk of the playerbase are kids), but more importantly, so too should mihoyo. here's one example: they specifically implemented the welkin moon to be the most "money-efficient" option while also the option that will have you willingly logging into genshin every day just so you wont waste it. that value that the welkin offers comes at a cost: genshin takes up real estate in your brain, no extra advertisement required. you'll be thinking about it every day because you dont want to miss a day of welkin.

Looking at it that way, you're basically paying upwards of $100 for a character aka DLC every 3-6 weeks. Imagine paying $100 for a new Call of Duty map very 6 weeks. Yeah, doesn't seem reasonable all of a sudden.

Similar to is it f2p friendly? It's somewhat expensive, unless you have a patience of a saint. The thing is, the games so easy you can skate by with freemogems. Overtime you'll eventually have a good enough team to clear abyss if you're spending your resin wisely and play long enough. I feel like it's pay to get more enjoyment or lessen the grind, and that enjoyment can be very expensive depending on what you're aiming for like weapons or constellations. Also the price for one 5* is insane if you run out of freemogems.
I'd say the only thing worth it is welkin if you play daily. BP is somewhat worth it depending on your conversion, but they intentionally choke you of resources to get you to buy it and the extra resin you save tend to amount to crappy artifacts anyway. Top up is very expensive for what you get, and while that's somewhat normal for a gacha, I feel like even in comparison to other gachas, it's pretty damn overpriced. The pity is both a bad and good thing (mostly good), cause if you're rather close to pity you'd definitely end up pulling out your wallet that you wouldn't otherwise have done. At the same time, at least you can be prepared and save up a certain amount for a guarantee.

I've got Venti and Jean, any banner I've rolled on as F2P has felt like "Well if I save for this character, they I'm going to miss out on a chance of rolling for the next three to four characters."
I am loving the game, but the pity system and general approach to the gacha here is simply unfair to an f2p's time investment. 90 Pulls for a 50/50 chance to get what you want or another POTENTIAL 90 to actually get them? It's utterly fucked.

Compared to other games, yes, it's absolutely too expensive, and what's more important - not too generous with freebies. I wouldn't say it's the worst, there are definitely gatcha games that are worse, but there are also a lot that are better. Let's go for a few examples.
Danmemo has 2 types of banners. A normal and a step-up. Normal guarantees you a new character on your first 10 roll, out of 3 characters in that banner. 3. Not dozens. And then every 3x10 rolls. These rolls cost 400 of whatever orb/gem/dollar thingie you use. 400 is frankly the minimum you'll get for participating in events if you're bad, be it pvp or boss fights. These events come every week or so. If you're better/have better team, you'll get aroun 700. Per week. And that's not the only way to obtain these, by far. You get them for completing quests, dailies, promo events, watching ads, upgrading characters, selling dupe characters etc. Step-up banners cost 200-400-200-400 etc, and every 400 is a guaranteed character. Now, the prices in their shop for these gems... they suck major balls. Waaaaay overpriced. But as a free to play, you can live rather comfortably there.
Bleach Brave Souls is similar. Too overpriced for what it is, but if you do your dailies and every event, you can get around a 1000 orbs per month, with rolls costing around 250 (sometimes it goes like 150-200-250), with every 5th being a guaranteed character from a pool of 4-9. That's less impressive, of course, but still better than Genshin. I mean... can you guarantee yourself at least 1 5* character a month in Genshin? Very unlikely.
Finally, something like Girls Frontline exists. Where characters literally cost you nothing. You just can't physically buy characters there. Only cosmetics. And these cosmetics are amazing, and arguably worth every dollar, but that's not the point. The point is that it's a f2p game that you literally can't buy characters in. So don't tell me Genshin's way is the only way to survive.

I played Brave Souls for a bit, the gacha is much better because simply going through the story gives you orbs to pull, daily log ins and events give a decent amount, and they give a decent amount of units for free like choosing between 10 units and getting one of them, that way at least its a character you wanted and not Qiqi

BBS argument is weird when you need multiple copies of a unit to be viable in the endgame. It is still by far more f2p friendly than Genshin in regard to monthly orbs from senk, resets, events, rez’s, and new units from given bbs tickets. No pity in the game also blows once your at where I’m at in the game(pulling for 5/5 units or gq specific units for sub 10s HGQ). If you maximize everything it’s roughly 10 multis a month(only vets can even do this). So while you can guarantee a 5* every month it’s far less useful than pulling one in Genshin.

      @HumanBeing-ps8vg 2 года назад

for bbs, i agreed. Its way toooverpriced for the amount of you get. But i can say its f2p friendly because you can get a shit ton of orbs by playing story quest, event quest and just by upgrading your character to certain level. It also has a lot event which can give you orbs and mostly ticket to pull a character. Not to mention event quest which you can farm infinitely and get unlimited tickets. Im f2p and play since 2017 and got alot of characters. The only things bother me is that they dont have pity system in their gacha so you might not get your desired character after several pulls but they have higher rate on getting 5 star than genshin on first 10 pull.

Speaking bluntly, GFL's main source of income will be from consistently making players pay premium currency to expand their character slots, on top of skins being a gacha with light ties to gameplay. Azur Lane does this as well, however Manjuu offers way, waaaaay more chances for f2p to do that; in exchange, the skin costs are fairly exorbitant - you buy them if you like Manjuu and want to support their work.

Great video though I wish you also touched on the weapon banner. With already how few primogems you get in the game, having to save enough for a potential loss on the 50/50 then the limited 5* and on top of that possibly pitying twice then getting the weapon if you choose to is such a drain. I really liked the point of how giving out more rewards won't necessarily cause them to lose more, but actually incentivize people to go for constellations if they desire. It's best when the it feels like the developer has more respect and care towards their community rather than feeling like you're being treated as just an income source.

@@danielcarrilho5217 Well that I don't disagree with, but the content created to get those gems is becoming mundane. Often tedious. For example. If you didn't finish the Chasm which is a very boring linear none open world, dialogue heavy, ass dragging quest line, you can not even smash space bar to skip through dialogue for some reason. Everything in it seems designed to take forever to do. Well you can not advance, and the Chasm I didn't finish up until recently because it was the worst quest line I've seen since Fog Island and I just didn't enjoy it.
      Examples why below.
      1. Firing a Cannon is a multi stage process, with many different quest based steps/exploratory moments, fetching/gathering/unlocking items just to blow a hole... they could of just let us activate the cannon, or perhaps craft some gunpowder and a cannon ball something which we should be more than able to do, everyone. Heck, I have a Klee I should be able to blow up mountains, but character aside. It's dumb and tedious, not really fun.
      2. Purifying Crystals. Not only do you have to climb up/down a cave not designed for climbing, unlike the fun regions of Mondstadt and Liyue, you also have to fight enemies at most of the crystals, use the new gadget to unlock the crystals, gather light to repeat the process, but you also have to boringly stand next to the crystals for a set period of time to well charge them. A totally unnecessary step in particular.
It's similar to the "Fog" Island as a nicknamed it, good story/characters but the questing itself was among the worst in the entire game, and just not enjoyable. I mean how many times I had to gather leaves for the same tree, or make the fog go away only for it to come back again, just so they could stack more parts of the quest to clear the island... it was frustratingly annoying to do.
Basically it's all designed to be as time consuming as they can get away with without driving players away and I absolutely hate it when games INTENTIONALLY waste my time. It's what drives me away from a lot of MMORPGs, and I hate that my SINGLE PLAYER Gacha game is doing it now.
What is worse, when they add a new region, normally the Event or Banner post release REQUIRES finishing specific quest or unlocking new regions just so you can participate. Which actually locks a lot of people out of rewards, or forces them to CRAM as much a work load as they can per day to catch up.
Over all, the game is becoming a chore instead of actually being fun. They try to push out events often twice a month and do not give people time to breath or even take breaks.

I do think genshin is far too expensive, especially when it comes to five stars. 90 wishes take so so soooo long to grind out , and you’re not even guaranteed the banner character even if you hit the hard pity. I’ve spent about 300 dollars on this game and I have three five star characters and they’re all C0 because I don’t re roll on them and hoard my gems for the next character I want. I don’t have any five star weapons because I refuse to spend my primo gems I’m saving for characters on the weapons . It sucks because I feel if they lowered the pity to like 70 and making a guarantee instead of 50/50 would make it a bit more “fair” . I would love to have more characters and I would be more likely to spend on this game if say I spend 75 for the primos I need to hit a hard pity instead of spending 150 for a 50/50 chance.

Either you pull them or you don't).
I was extactic when i pulled Yelan, but now the game just lost all sense of urgency. I still do my commission, but I'm apathic to my primogems count, every number above 180 (and really, every number above 160) feels meaningless. Whereas before i would be constantly counting how much i have, calculating how much i could spend on each banner without fucking up my goal. Some of my most fun "gaming" moment are ranting to a friend about how many wishes would be wise to spend on each banner.
And at least, most of my 4 star are still not C6. Can't imagine how boring the game gets when everyone is C6.

An increase in rewards would not only contribute to low-spender dopamine rush (and thus to keeping the players "addicted" to the gameplay loop), but also incentivize more dolphins. I had to skip Eula, one of my top 5 characters, twice due to how out of nowhere her rerun was. But back then, if there was ANY chance at all to get her with a rational amount of cash spent, I would've done so. And this is the case for many people. As a veteran of all types of Gacha games and someone who likes remaining F2P to see just how balanced the in-game economy is, I always come back to HyperGriff (devs behind Arknights) and Mihoyo. It's almost night and day the F2P experience of both their main moneymakers, I've never seen a game with as many fall-back mechanics as Arknights, and provided you put the time and manage your resources, you can get all the meta units in around 6 months.
Meanwhile I feel like Genshin constantly reminds me of how much wasted potential is in it, I stick around because the core gameplay of exploration is fun, but if you told someone that it's the most profitable gacha in the world chances are they'd be confused. The game is massively profitable DESPITE the corporation consistently burning through player's goodwill.
I hold out hope one day they'll either be humbled and forced to change, or simply get their shit together. The creative side is fine and clearly a lot of passion gets put on it -- but the game itself doesn´t seem to value the playerbase.

What I learn from Genshin is you can just make stunning and charming graphics, story, and character designs to allow people spending on gacha even if you quit the game shortly after lol...
In term of gameplay, game design, and business model, Genshin has some serious core problems. Some of players will disagree with Vars in this content, because they don't really know how boring the game if you want to min maxing or getting some achievements like getting all playable characters.
Video games are not everything about story and graphics. Some people like to just play Tetris or Pacman which virtually just one screen game but can be competitive by finding AI manipulations or RNG patterns from Tetris's randomness. People will also play Genshin for experimenting all characters so if you can't even unlock all characters by in-game feature or locked by gacha that's a serious game design problem.

Honestly I whaled for hu tao and I feel really ashamed. I honestly scrambled to justify it with the I don’t have to pay bill or rent yet since I’m only 16.
I don’t actually regret it since I love playing her so much but it’s the numbers that I regret. It’s the embarrassment I get when I think about it.
The stinginess with rewards for exploring scared me a lot and I was in early game. Still am but I knew that games are the most generous with exploration rewards in early game. And early game stinginess just freaked me out. I didn’t know anything about Gacha and I knew I was getting scammed so I will admit I’m at fault but I knew they’d keep adding more and more characters which will make reruns really scarce so it was really nerve racking. And there was only 4 days left.
Right now I’m going to do my very best to not do this again and at most will do welkin. I will say that I got luckier than most with the Gacha and money ratio which is really really gross to think about.
I love hu tao but I wanna also mention the 4 stars I wasted the rest of what was left from her for a 4 star that never came except yesterday on standard by assension quest. Number wise I got really lucky with what I did get but I don’t even use what I got from that banner at all.
Not to mention the weapon banner and lack of 4* pity at all. I’m never going for weapon I literally have only done 1 single pull on any weapon banner ever just out of temptation.
They just ignore what physical merch they can make and profit from. They also ignore the fans and players. This is my favorite game I’ve ever played but it’s just tiring to spend 3 hours on the 4 daily quests for just a few primos that don’t even equal a single wish.

I don’t play any gachas besides Genshin so I have nothing else to compare it to. As someone who has only Welkin, I’ve felt pretty happy so far with the game.
I came in with the mentality that I’d only be able to get 4-5 limited five star characters in my entire time playing the game, and that attitude has probably helped, since I don’t feel like I need to spend more than I am to enjoy the game. I only have three characters on my “really want” list, and I’ve already gotten two of them just from saving up. The one 50/50 I lost, I lost to Jean, the character I love most from the standard banner, which was awesom. I have a bunch of 4-stars I adore and use all the time (Sucrose, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Noelle), so I basically already have everything I want in my team. Just waiting for Zhongli rerun lol. I never pull for weapons or constellations or anything like that, the game never makes me feel like I need them, so I don’t feel bad skipping out on them.
There are loads of cool four stars I don’t have yet either, and new ones releasing all the time, so I’m content to satisfy my fun! gambling! stimulation! needs by just casually making single pulls for 4-stars when I have wishes available.
Tbf I only just started the game a few months ago and am not in the endgame slog yet. I can’t speak to what it feels like once all the content and free primos run out. I’ll probably resent the game way more when I get to that point.
