    This brings back some great memories from 1987. I worked with the other band at EPCOT and had the pleasure of hanging out with some of these guys. That's Bubba on snare, the man from Wisconsin on tri's and the fantastic Paulie Collins on bass drums. Bob Franklin was a great leader and bugle player. Sorry I can't remember more of their names -- I'm over 50, dudes.

    C'mon Disney Bring Future Corps back PLEASE! I already work at Epcot and I can play trumpet and mellophone.

    I miss the G bugles of the old corps. These guys are amazing.

  • @kmabru
    @kmabru 15 лет назад +1

    dude......... key word there is trumpet. Yes, 3 valve trumpets have been around since the year of the flood. Future Corps didn't use trumpets. They used G bugles. For many years, G bugles were 2 valves.
    DCI made the switch to 3 valves over a multi-year period. Just not sure when (late 80's, early 90's???). Future Corps made the switch earlier than DCI (they had the prototype horns).
    Note, the DCI corps have started to switch to Bb instruments.

    @SNSKreationz
    Universal/IOA didn't have a band when I was there in April of 2008. I don't recall seeing anything on the entertainment list.
    Magic Kingdom has had a band in the daytime parade that marches in red and white uniforms. The one I saw was a brass band with trumpets, trombones and sousaphones instead of G bugles like FC used (soprano, melophone, baritone & contra). They also had three drummers (snare, quads and single bass).

    Wow does this take me back, to the late 80's with Bob Franklin, Paul Collins, Bubba, etc. Good job, studs.

    That must have been great to meet and work with some of them. I did get to talk briefly with one of the horn players in 1998 about the rack mounted drums.
    Anyway.... in 1990, I caught just about every performance over a 2 day period. Saw them a few more times between then and 1994. It was just incredible to me that such a small group could sound so full.
    Was really disappointed when I went in 2001 to find they were no longer there.

    Why haven't more people watched this? Mindboggling!

  • @kmabru
    @kmabru 12 лет назад +2

    @Fragite They're playing on G bugles which are harder to play than standard Bb brass. They also will always have a different tonal quality regardless of the ability of the players. G bugles have a raspier tone. Also, if I remember correctly, these are prototype 3 valved horns.
    As for your comment on recognizing when someone isn't very good... are you saying they weren't very good? These guys are pros and most if not all came from Top 12 DCI corps.

    you're lucky u saw them live. i never had the chance to saw them live but i had the privilege of working with the lead trumpet Bob Franklin and the bass drum player Paul Collins during the opening of hong kong disneyland. they're not just great musician but nice people too.

    I like this group of music! I'm so sad this band don't play !!!
    Thank you for this great music!!!

  • @kmabru
    @kmabru 16 лет назад +1

    I think those were the prototype 3 valve G bugles. I read somewhere that Future Corps was using 3-valves before DCI. Note the triple bass drums. This puts this video before 1997 or so. They switched to the rack mounted drums around that time. Other videos on RUclips with the triple bass drums are circa 1991. Have to say, I always felt the triple-bass sounded better than the 6 rack mounted bass drums. Much better sound projection. Also Future Corps disbanded I think in early 2001.

    I love the samba part too, StickyxSkittle. Whenever I think of this video, when it gets to the samba part the whole image just rotates 30 degrees, like the song.
    This is definitely a wonderful piece and I think it would be fun to learn.

    Agreed TWBaltz. I definitely prefer the G bugles. Today's corps lost something with the switch to Bb (well..... the amplified commentary doesn't help either).
    And yeah, these guys were amazing.

  • @jojogat
    @jojogat  16 лет назад +1

    no problem.
    i honestly don't know what year. maybe around 84-88. i just got this video from bob franklin, the trumpet player doing the first solo.

    i just love this song, the original, and every version of it. I play this in my jazz band (drummer) and i feel like im flying when i play it. i hate how people are walking by, not even caring about this genius of a band. There is a really tight groove thats not found in alot of bands like this.

  • @jojogat

    which version of when you wish? future corps have their version of it by i don't have it. you can search here in youtube. i'm sure you'll find it

    Started I believe all dci corps now play on Bbs. Pioneer was the last to switch like 2 years ago.
    Now DCA corps still use Bugles ( well some ) like statesmen.

  • @schantzman87

    do they are playing g bugles. what drum corps used to play before switching to the Bb trumpet

    @SNSKreationz
    You're welcome. I don't recall seeing saxophones, but it's possible. I think it was 2005 or 2007 that I saw them. Can't remember. I got the impression that it was actually the Tomorrowland band just with different uniforms and marching in the parade. If they had saxophones as well, it could have been the sax quartet/quintet joining them.
    Disney has been cutting entertainment groups. Not sure if they're still there. Voices got cut down to 8 singers at Epcot.

    I just love these comments that they're not that good..... Especially when the poster says they can do better, but don't post anything to back it up. I'm still waiting to see something from m4dclaw.........
    And as has been said before, these aren't trumpets. They're using G bugles.
    Oh and BTW..... your brother really shouldn't be posting under your account. Let him make his own account.

    correction. I was thinking balistic brass. this one is brass machine lol

  • @kmabru
    @kmabru 15 лет назад

    m4dclaw, they're not good?! You're kidding, right? I guess you can do better.
    I don't know what you see wrong with the tempo. I just listened to a number of Brass Machine videos..... All but one seemed too slow. That one sounded like a studio recording. It was David Stahl. The tempo was almost the same as this.
    FYI.... those are G bugles so they're not trumpets. They're sopranos. But I'm just nitpicking.

  • @kmabru
    @kmabru 15 лет назад +1

    Exactly timpanista. They have no idea who the guys are, where they're from or what drum corps used to be.
    If anyone says it's not good, I wonder if they can do better. If they say they can, I want to see proof.. and not just on a trumpet. Let's see them do it on a G bugle.
    The videos are great but don't do the group justice. First saw them in 1990. When I rounded the corner, I was amazed at the sound of just three drummers and 10 horns (missing 1 contra). Was expecting a bigger group.

    I'm pretty sure Maynard never played this. There's a recording of it floating around online that reference Maynard, but it's really the Army Band with Dave Deitweiller soloing. If anyone knows of an actual Maynard recording, please post a link. Here's the mislabeled one. I started listening to Maynard in 1973. That is definitely not his tone or style. ruclips.net/video/dPh-sY32kSA/видео.html
