I highly suggest pulling camshaft deviation values on the 5 chain m96, and check crankshaft centering before an IMS Bearing upgrade. It takes 5 minutes.
Brown plastic is timing chain tensioner pad debris. Black plastic is timing chain guide material.

Jim is kind of being creepy watching in the background. Is he being the ghost of IMS bearing past or something? lol

Hugh? Does the car have to have the window sticker still on it to not qualify for replacement?

I want you guys to do my IMS. Seem like straight shooters and not "hype beasts" for IMS repair.

it’s a gamble because if it fails bye bye motor

Exactly… so why check the filter if you are changing the bearing anyways? It makes no sense whatsoever

@@carlosbonilla1637 They're checking to see for bore scoring. Metal flakes would suggest cylinder scoring in which case more investigation into severity of the issue would need to be done before the customer wasted money on the IMS service. No sense in replacing the bearing in a motor thats already destroyed.

@@MWallis2 Exactly. They measure aluminum in an oil analysis in PPM's and it doesn't take too much more than 10 ppm to indicate an issue so just because the filter is "clean" is only a cursory check. I know this from first hand experience.
