I think the reason the new one looks so weird is the legs. The moment you hid them by putting him at the bottom of the screen, it suddenly started looking like an improved version of the original

More expressive model is good. Eye tracking - good. But more features does not mean better aesthetics. While the old one had less but it looked way more natural.
Something has to be done/corrected in order to match eye tracking with birds beak. As at this moment eyes most of the time looking right while, the beak is facing left. So the bird looks like a frankenstein. At the moment in my eyes it's more of a downgradea then an upgrade.
