Are my pieces happy, who is crying, what does my opponent want, what are the weaknesses and what are the threats. So many questions 🤔 You are a great teacher and I really enjoy your videos ✅

    homework spoiler - no engine
In this equal material position, piece activity and positional play may be the biggest factor.
Black's two knights are in a good position to take advantage of the current pawn structure, whereas white's bishop is a bit buried.
White has to make at least one additional move for king safety, unless they could find an immediate attack, which looks implausible. That will cost them one tempo.
White's knight on the d5 outpost can be driven back with black's c-pawn, whereas black's knight cannot be driven back by any pawns.
Furthermore, black's d7 knight can move to c5 to put pressure on the d3 pawn or move to e6 to support the d4 knight.
White is unlikely to be able to move h4 and g5 to try to active the bishop to h3 without losing a pawn and weakening their own king-side.
If white tries to play 0=0 and f4 to create a semi-open file, black can play f6 to counter it and trade rooks.
Black's queen has a better diagonal at the moment than white's queen as well.
White has one weakness with the backward d3 pawn that has little chance of remedy and one more weakness will clinch the game for black.
The position strongly favors black, even if it's white's turn to move. I'd say the evaluation would be -2.0 but in practical play it's even much better for black as white has no active plan.

I think black is better in the homework position as it has a knight on the d4 outpost whereas the white knight can be easily kicked out with moves like c6. Besides that, the white bishop is a completely useless piece and it'll need several moves and some pawn advancement on the kingside just to become active. Not to mention, the black king has already castled whereas the white King still hasn't and it doesn't have any safer castling options when compared to the white King. Rooks from both sides are not that active and the black knight on d7 is not that much in the game. I think it can become useful in the future and can potentially move to the White's queenside on b3 and suffocate the enemy pieces even more along with the other knight.

    @RagnarsAxe1945 Месяц назад

Homework: I would give Black the advantage, perhaps as much as -1 or -1.5. I base this on several factors: Black's d4 knight strikes at white squares while White's bishop is a pauper on g2 when it comes to defending those squares. Also, no White pawn can attack the white squares the Black knight is eyeing. White's central knight, by comparison, is vulnerable to c6. Perhaps its best future is in some defense position on e3 or c3 to e2 preparing for a later f4 distraction to try and give some air to the bishop. Then there's the relative King safety. Black is cozy, while White has yet to castle. Perhaps a future White king side castle will combined with an f4 push is possible, but opening the center without improving White's pieces is probably a fatal mistake. In all, White looks to be on the back foot and needs to find something to create counter play or else draw into a solid defensive position. White's dark square weaknesses look attractive too. Perhaps a queen infiltration via ... g5 (combined with a knight on b3) or h4. Black's other minor piece, the knight on d7, is not only currently more valuable than White's bishop, it has a potential path via ... c5 and b3 (after a prophylactic ... a5 to prevent b4). It's like Christmas for Black! His (or her) knight on d7 can also contemplate ... c5 - e6 - f4, attacking White's weak pawns on d3 and f2, not to mention the bishop. The challenge for Black seems to be finding the optimum winning plan, while White's is finding the best defensive strategy that would hopefully lead to equality and if Black stumbles, a winning opportunity.

I was watching Agad last night and saw someone (forget who) terrorising Black with the Greek gift from the Bishop on d3 (position 1). Now I remember, it might have been GingerGM v Rakhmangulova. The opponent was so rattled by the B on d3 and N on f3 that she took her eyes off the queenside.
You have moved your chair, now Birdy is pecking at your shoulder. My carrion crows watch me cook.
    Black to play.
Black's N on d4 looks there for the duration, no B or Q to support fork on c2. No big deal. White Q can to move diagonally only to a4, so that fork's not happening yet. I'd really like to constipate the White Q even more with g5 (preventing g5 from White), but perhaps Qh4 first because this will look very scary.
Black's Knight on d7 really only has c5. I don't see the need yet.
I don't like White's position. Q and B are constipated, and the Rooks are white elephants. The c file is a minefield if the Rook tries to sneak through there.
The Queen has to get to a dark square, d2, at least you have four moves, not one. NO, three moves!
    From Q at d2
    Qb4 Nc2+!
My analysis is that White is sunk because of the light square paralysis of his Q and B. Although he advanced into enemy territory, he's occupied too many light squares.
Thank you again for these amazing lessons.

Loving your feedback and sense of humor ❤️ Black is much better indeed, the engine gives -2.0 despite material equality. Black has much better pieces, and White's lsb is lacking work. The beast on d5 is not really a beast as it will be chased away by ...c6.

Re Homework: what I see just looking at the board issue by issue:
    material is even (edge: none)
black is castled, white is not (edge: black)
black has a knight in white's territory that can never be removed unless sac exchange (edge: black)
white's bishop looks very sad, buried behind its pawns (edge: black)
white's knight in black's territory can be kicked easily with c6, so it will probably be evicted from that square soon (edge: black)
white DOES, however, have the start of a "pawn storm" on kingside AND black has created a "hook pawn" on h6, so black has some work left to do in this game, definitely far from over (edge: white)
So overall, edge to black. I'm not sure how evaluations are handled by engines, but I'd guess around -1 or -2 maybe?

    Thanks, excellent lesson.
Being a methodical chap, I am working through your courses in the order you suggested to me recently. Where would this new course fit with your other courses?
    Homework.
White's King safety is poor and has not castled. White's bishop is very stuck and unhappy. White Knight is in a nice spot but can easily be moved by c8 when it would have to retreat. White rooks are inactive.
Black has a safer, castled King. Black Knight on d4 is central and on a safe outpost. Black other Knight isn't great but could go to c5 to threaten the backward pawn at d3. Black has 1 undeveloped rook. Black and white Queens have similar activity.
So Black is better. I am not great at evaluating and often get it wrong, so I would be guessing if I were to suggest a numeric value but Black is better.
Best teacher of Chess, so clear and directed. Thanks!

Black is significantly better. Nc5->e6->f4 and we can see both of our knights are landing on strong outposts. White's knight can be kicked out with c6. White's bishop is horrible, stating at its own pawns.

I think Black is better in the homework because of his outpost ...d4-Knight, and because White's g2-Bishop is crying and not able to do anything. White also has weakness on the dark-squares, and without a dark-square Bishop, he might have a hard time defending his camp (although Black does not have a dark-square Bishop either, so perhaps this is not such a weakness for White - it seems to me like a problem for White). Black's pawns on the other hand seem much more cohesive and well placed. I am not sure that castling will provide much king safety for White, again, his dark squares seem weak to me, including on his kingside. I might say that Black is nearly a piece worth of evaluation ahead in this position simply because his two Knights seem more active than both of White's minor pieces (the White Knight is not solidly at an outpost and might be driven back).
