You legit just saved me SO much money. I keep a spare house key in a lock box for emergency situations (I lock my keys inside constantly). I changed my code thinking I’m savvy. After a bad experience allowing someone on Rover to use it while I’m out of town. So, I changed it to a random set of numbers. Never wrote it down, and then absolutely forgot it. You not only taught me a nifty trick, but a wallet saving one at that. Like $100+ dollars. YOURE THE BEST, thank you!!!

It worked! Realtor left their lockbox on our new home and was taking forever to come take it off. Several tries with a plastic 'shim' along the lines of your metal one, and I got the combination! Took maybe 10-15 minutes as this was my first time ever. Thanks so much.

Really good. I really appreciate how you just show what you know. No flying intro logos, dumb music, or self-ingratiating dialog for your “show”. Just good, honest, clear info. That’s refereeing. So many instructional vids are smeared with really bad “look-at-me-mommy” trash. This vid is a gem.

Excellent tutorial! I work as a handyman - a homeowner contacted me because they had forgotten the combination they set their lockbox to. I watched 3 different vids about opening this particular model or style of lockbox and yours turned out to be the one from which I was able to achieve success. You include all the necessary information to make it possible for a first timer to achieve the desired outcome.

This was the one. After watching 4 different videos on how to open this lock with a coke can shim, you showed me exactly how to do it. Thanks for being clear and concise while still covering all the contingencies (my shim also went "down" first before it found the right number).

  • @jba2220
    @jba2220 11 месяцев назад +26

For anyone that this isn't working for, make sure you feel the "down" before you get to the right number. If you don't feel the down, then the shim may not be in exactly the right place back in the inside of the lock and any "ups" you feel won't necessarily indicate that you've found the correct number. If you feel an up without having felt a preceding down, make note of that number and go around again -- if you have found the right number then your shim will now be aligned in the correct place back inside the lock and now and you will feel 1 or 2 downs in the numbers immediately preceding your correct number as you come around. If this doesn't work, and you go all the way around without feeling a down, just reinsert the shim and try again until you do -- ultimately after you feel the down, the shim should be at greater than a 90 degree angle relative to the lockbox, measuring from the combination side.

Bought my home two years ago but the sellers forgot the combination to the box attached to the garage. I did need some WD-40 to get the wheels to spin smooth enough for me to discern the movement vs the force needed to turn sticky wheels. However, once that was done, I was able to open and reset the combination. Thanks.
While I had seen a few videos saying much the same thing, the piece that ultimately helped was the downward movement the turn before the upward movement. The downward movement was easier to identify as a real downward movement and not merely the shim bending or error by my fingers.

Thank you!!! I was in panic mode because I moved things around and unintentionally did a reset on the box outside one of our rental units. I watched two other videos and tried multiple times without success. Your video was very detailed, and assumed no prior knowledge of any part of the process. Specifically, showing how to make the shim, mentioning to insert it until it stopped, barely resting my finger on it, and feeling it moving down and then back up were the parts that helped me. I moved each number down two times and it opened. I only had to go through your steps one time and it opened. As a current English teacher, you could definitely go into teaching (if you want to be poor, stressed, and overworked lol). BTW, mine was the wall mount model and is approximately 3 years old.

Worked like a charm, almost. Instead of rolling the tumblers up one digit, I moved them down.
I also used a piece of venetian blind instead of a soda can, but only because it was in a heap of crap right next to the door with the lock box on it.
Tip: you really dont need scissors to cut a can or in my case, the venetian blind. CAREFULLY bend the piece about 3/16ths back from the edge. Fold it as tight as you can then unfold it. If it doesnt break off by then, do it again.
I'll add this too. As easy as it was to pull out my phone, go to "picking a lock box" on youtube, and watching this video, Im not sure I want it now. It was as simple as that.

      Keyed-Style Lockboxes are always best.
Coded Boxes are always vulnerable, too many moving components.
These are best used for leaving a key for someone to clean up a vacant home, an electrician etc.. to come in and work on an empty place.
Once the work is completed, the locks usually(highly recommended) are changed when the home becomes occupied.
Locks like these have their purpose, it's a better option than leaving a key under a mat lol

The stickiness of the rolls will reduce the “click” of the right number. It took me 60 try to figure out to unlock the 1 master lock and took me 2 try to pick up the 2nd lockbox.

    • @LockandKilo

Combination locks in general always have vulnerabilities. They should be used more for convenience than security.

Woohoo it worked, our new house had a mystery lock box and now it's not a mystery any more 😂 Although I'm not sure exactly what I did, felt the rise but nothing happened, then tried +2 like some of the comments suggested, still nothing. Then dialed -1 back and it popped open!

Worked like a treat third time trying....you have to feel it move...even just a slight bit.

haha this worked! Had an old lockbox from a contractor that we didn't really want to contact again. I found that my shim went down on the first dial, so I just did that for them all and bingo .. just a few turns on each and no more lockbox on my downstairs patio door.

So I used one I know the combo and tried it out, and the number I got was 2 spots down from the right number. So instead of going down 1 spot, I went down 2 spots, and voila!! Got it opened.

Thank you, I had a client that we were negotiating a purchase. He wanted access for a contractor. Negotiations broke down and before o could change the code he went over and changed it with the only keys to the building inside.

Do they make any lock boxes that are anti this technique? I’m in real estate and the idea of someone getting the keys is dangerous, especially for the basement. Any ideas?
