I built a 4' octo last year that has a 3d gimble for a dslr and a separate 3d gimble for a 4k action camera. A lot of fun. A lot of trial and error when trying to make a cheap as possible while having quality parts. For some reason I though it would cost me right around 2 to 3k and at the end of it all I spent around $4.4k. In the end I made it as a hex since it didn't seem to make much of a difference in flight time and thrust used to stay at hover. I put a 2.1 pixhawk in it too. First build with the 2.1 and loved it just as I do with the pixhawk and apm fs. I do wish I built it as a folding platform like you have in the video. I used a lot of parts from a fy680 to make my own frame. By the end of the build it had 4 plates and looked like a Big Mac. LOL. Actually still not happy with its landing gear and will be be changing it soon. Building bigger definitely is different from building 550 size.

at 17:04 how is this setup to use telemetry to send message from Pixhawk confirming a command? Is the re a video about this? I see you holding a 433 mhz (what would be in the U.S. 915 mhz_ telemetry transmitter in the background as talking about it, is that what is used for gathering the info in this case? That's definitely the way I want mine setup. Can you tell me briefly the setup details on that?

I realize this video is about big multirotors, but when it comes to GPS position-hold which are usually available on larger copters, what would be a good solution for something much smaller, say 6- or 7-inch? I'm sure it would be able to carry the DJI guts or Pixhawk, but do you think that's the way to go?

See my recent video on 'what flight control software and hardware should I use'. You can add a GPS to a regular flight controller and use iNav..

I actually was able to handle a 31.5ah lithium ion on an s1000 - we were pulling around 60a max for our missions, which was ok for that size of a pack. Let me get to 3000' agl and back in colorado.

Interesting video, I love having audio telemetry warnings setup on my FrSky gear, I prefer Smart Port telemetry over OSD’s, I have a tendency to ignore OSD readings but when my Taranis calls out how many mAh I’ve consumed then gives me an alarm sound that I set for when I need to land I actually pay attention to those warnings and land my quads before it’s too late and the pack sags completely so the quad just drifts down out of the sky.

Very Interesting Video . Would it be possible for you to explain why it is that you choose one system or part over another in builds ? I Enjoyed Yesterday’s Motor Comparison & Reasoning for your Decision on the Emax 2306 motor . Looking Forward to the Rest of the Long Range Build Also . I learn something new with each of your video’s . Thanks ..!

Right up my alley Not so Painless My girlfriend and I like em big. I used a pixhawk 4 knock off for $53 big ones. I'll never use anything else. Beginners or pro's the plethora of options is endless, Mission Planer is the ultimate.

    Hi.
What can you tell us about the new Pixhawk v5 from CUAV is this gonna replace in the near future the pixhawk 2.1 the cube
Is this v5 from CUAV better than pixhawk 2.1 the cube.
In this moment the prices are quite similar on this 2
And what can you tell us about pixhawk v3.
Pixhawk v3 and v5 are made by CUAV , can you make a review based on this three, a bit of comparing.
    Thank you.

I think it says a lot when a guy who runs a business this big is content with a 2.1 that just works.
