G.O.A.T In My opinion, I have been an avid boxing fan since 79...and watched countless of boxers from before 79... Roy Jones was THE most physically gifted fighter that I have ever seen. I used to think that he wasn't so much a great fighter but more a physical phenom that could get away with the implausible...But watching him in his prime...He fought exactly like he should have. He is one of the greatest fighters of all time
Roy Jones in his prime had a aura where each fight was anticipated as an execution, and the final outcome inevitable. Moving from middleweight to heavyweight is not a easy task. He was dominant, fast and had other worldly reflexes. He was completely in control of his unique gifts and used them intelligently and strategically. Roy Jones is right up there with the top tier all time greats. As always these are my personal home-recordings, so if you enjoyed the video leave a like and subscribe for more rare quality footages and coverages on legends of the greatest sport on earth.👊
Yeah 100% every fight was an event. He was a true fighter and showman. If he woulda fought his career like mayweather jr he coulda gone undefeated too but he loves to box to much almost to a fault. He's the best fighter I've ever seen live by far
If yer gonna talk about Roys gifts you have to be talking about him as a boy, when he started. Other than that what we are looking at is what he earned, the talents he acquired throughout the years upon years of amateur sparring & competition where he acquired his many talents & developed the all time great skills we know him for. Saying Roy had "Natural Gifts" n that was the secret of his success is almost as ignorant as a fool who once tried to tell me Marvin Hagler was successful because he had long arms. Gifts, physical attributes & appitide for the sport might win you a regional novice title in the amateurs if you are very lucky. Beyond that you are looking at the product that blood, sweat & tears, manical dedication & hard work produced. Roy, like prime Ali & Robinson made it look easy but make no mistake, it was a demonic work ethic, psychotic devotion & iron will that got them to the top, & kept them there.
Mayweather has fought for less titles & has won less titles than Roy Jones, no matter what his padded stage managed record says. Im talking WBA/C/O, IBF, Ring Magazine & or lineal Titles only. Also one of Mayweathers fights was for two WBC titles in different weights so you cant really count that in your tally seeing as it was the rematch with Maidana who had never fought for or held a title in the weight class Mayweather was "Defending". If you ignore the DQ in Roys record his "Unbeaten" run is more impressive than Mayweathers & he never made anyone fall asleep while watching him !
@@SPIDERM0OSE yeah I know but I dont put much weight behind all these alphabet belts. When you can have 5 lightweight champions with 2 of them holding the exact same belt it kinda ruins the prestige of championships. Even though we who got to watch Jones Jr and Mayweather's career know, what most people are going to judge them off of in the future is there records. No matter how boring Mayweather's fights were, especially as his career progressed , his undefeated record is impressive and is why he WILL be considered one of the greatest to ever do it. No matter how much you, me, or anyone else dislike him. REAL SERIOUS BOXING FANS WILL KNOW THE TRUTH but that's a very small percentage of people that claim to love boxing.

This is why Calzaghe avoided this man at his best. He and his team knew he would get demolished easily! Glen Johnson, and Tarver before coming down from heavyweight would have gotten the same. And whomever else he lost to. This brother's hand speed was second to none. Athletic! A phenomenon!!! Most of all his skillset and IQ were his greatest attributes. A living legend! Roy Jones Jr🥊✊🏿💪🏿💯
lol is that what they told you ... Roy Jones fought zero times in his prime outside the States .. he admitted himself in an interview he wouldn't fight Eubank because it was a hard fight and there was no money in it. Steve Collins wrote a book about chasing Jones across America and still resents him to this day for not fighting. The list of fighters he missed is endless he was basically a North American champion. Everyone wanted to fight him apparently he was the money man from collins book. A faded and aged Calzaghe (his hands were shot) beat a faded Roy Jones (about the same age) in his back garden the US at least he traveled at the end of his career. Maybe Roy was just the best maybe he could have beaten everyone but there is a long list that wasn't given a chance. I was a casual boxing fan about the time of Roy Jones, no youtube so with millions of others .. never heard of him .. true story .. then is when boxing started to die. Sure all the hardcores knew him but still sad I never follow golf but I know who Tiger Woods is, does Woods only play in the US against a subset of golfers? Everyone has heard of Mike Tyson he'd go into you're back garden and kick your ass but by Jones's time America only as everyone else in the world would be beaten so no point actually proving it apparently only in boxing would this happen. Believe what you want I don't care but he could have made the rest of us care .. Calazaghe was a really good fighter and Jones would never fight him earlier as it was a tough fight with no money in it :-(
As the other guy in the comment above said, Roy Jones JR was a good fighter, in my personal opinion he was the best and maybe in his prime, he might have beaten Joe Calzaghe, but we'll never know because it was definitely Roy that avoided Joe until Joe went to the States. Now personally i believe that Roy would have won had they fought earlier, but i also think that Roy was a bigger coward overall as a person. Especially in his early career, later on he was more gritty and willing to get dirty, but in his younger days, i felt he was a bit of a poser, the light heavyweight version of Prince Naseem.
@@Chris-ty7fw You wrote an entire dissertation just to be wrong. After the Olympic robbery, how is it unreasonable for the guy to not trust international sanctioning bodies? If he fought any other fighters outside of the U.S. then elected NOT to fight Eubank, you’d have a point. But that decision was made prior to turning pro. Next, it’s perfectly fine to have a favorite fighter, support him, and believe whatever narrative props your guy up. That’s totally within your rights. Everyone’s entitled his own opinion… No ones entitled to his own facts. The fact that you have to try to diminish one guy’s ability to elevate another’s is very telling. It’s a sign of wishful thinking. Your entire argument is laughable 😂😂😂
I never saw the greatest fights live. I always watched new fighters I watched with an apprehension. Is this the real deal? Like Ali? Foreman? Tyson? Barrera? Morales? Tommy Hearns? First fight I saw of RJJ - I was grinning ear to ear. This here is a god! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! A joy to watch!
Myth: a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature. For everyone crying about the word ‘myth’
It’s the ‘without a determinable basis of fact’ that makes even this definition of myth unsuitable for Roy’s story. Aside from the associations with Demi-gods and supernatural beings, a myth is basically something that never really happened. I think Roy’s opponents know that he was real. And if we’re going to talking about words and language, to say that people who think ‘myth’ is the wrong choice of word are ‘crying’ is moronic.
Wikipedia: “Since the term myth is widely used to imply that a story is not objectively true, the identification of a narrative as a myth can be highly controversial” “Myths are sometimes distinguished from legends in that myths usually have no historical basis”
Toney done little or nothing to him. His first fight with Tarver was his toughest, that he didnt lose. Lou De Valle scored a great knock down against him in their fight but Toney was a comfortable nights work for him.
@@SPIDERM0OSE More reason to have him in it. Roy dominated but Tony was the best boxer he faced. That was the time he was untouchable. But Roy even said himself he was the best boxer he has ever faced.
@@allenwaldon7914 Technically he may have been the best, the fighter with the best performances vs 1 or 2 high level fighters like Michael Nunn at that time. But even as a 2 weight champ Toney was unconvincing. Reggie Johnson took him to a disputed decision just before or just after he beat Nunn & even in the Nunn fight he was getting a boxing lesson until he landed that hook in the 11th. By the time Jones fought him it would be a toss of tye coin as to who was the better Roy Jones opponent, Hopkins or Toney ? Roy made em both look pedestrian. Both went on to do great things after losing to Roy. After Toney, Roy went the distence with a faded McCallum who had 3 close disputed fights with Toney, so now thats 4 fighters all at least as good as Toney was at the time Roy fought em. All multi weight World Champs, all slick crafty boxers, all went the distance with prime Roy Jones n all were comfortably outclassed. His biggest win was vs Ruiz. His toughest fight, if it wasn't Ruiz it was vs Tarver 1. Roy can say watever he likes about who he likes but the James Toney he fought wasn't the James Toney the myth n legend he is today, he was actually quite ordinary compared to the top fighters of his era & region.
At the height of Roy’s powers no one was better. He made great fighters look pedestrian (ie: Toney & Hopkins) & made other great fighters duck him into retirement (ie: Nigel Benn). Roy was special 🥊🥊🥊
Bullshit, Jones, by his own admission, was prevented from fighting in the UK by his promoter. He never fought Benn, Collins or Eubank. All Brits, all world champions. He also never fought Gerald McClelland. I'm fucked if I know how anyone can call him the goat when he didn't even fight the best in his division.
@@Ozvideo1959 Gerald Mac was his best friend so they weren’t going to fight. These other guys wanted no smoke with Roy. He called em out & they made excuses. In fact Eubanks Collins & Roy we’re on skybox round table & Eubanks admitted he wanted no parts of RJ. Collins made a ton of excuses to why he couldn’t fight Roy. In the case of Benn Roy said he was going to avenge Gerald Macs loss & punish Benn & Benn ran into retirement. Stop cappin!
@@xman333 Collins chased a fight with RJJ for years. The sticking point was where it was going to be held. Roy's promoters weren't keen on him fighting abroad and Collins had already lived and fought in America and couldn't get big fights, so he returned to the UK. And BTW, I've seen that roundtable with all the Super-Middleweights and although Eubanks now says fighting Jones would have been suicide, I don't believe that for a second. He didn't fear anyone. Eubanks was just being gracious with that comment.
@@xman333 Jones only ever fought within the US. And he didn't fight any of the Brits even though they had titles in the same division. He was lucky to get the decision against Tarver in their first fight and got KTFO in their second fight. It really astounds me that people are always banging on about he was so great. He didn't even fight the best in his weight class. He didn't fight outside the US. He was a protected fighter. I noticed you ommitted the part of that roundtable where RJJ said his promoters wouldn't let him go to Europe.
Probably the best athlete to ever box. If he hadn't grown up with a brutal taskmaster of a father who made him drill boxing endlessly and could pursue his passion of basketball I think he could have made it to the NBA. Even at his height, a la Allen Iverson. Dude was ridiculously gifted.
This is my favorite fighter hands down, also i got goosebumps by 2 minutes in. Well done. This is my favorite boxing channel for a reason, i expected no less.
Roy was like Ali. Athletically they were so superior to everyone they faced that they could just do things other fighters couldn't do and couldn't deal with.
Please do joe frazier 🙏 I would love to see something similar to the sugar ray video, where most of the focus is on the "mere mortals" he faced Great video as always, Roy oozed perfection for tons of fights
100 thumbs up for this video. There’s never been no one like RJJ. The sad ending, though, is him trying to keep it up into his 50’s and getting knocked out cold a few times. He WAS the best though…
You knew he would win and it might be quick, but as a fan, you knew you would see something that you would never see again, because only Roy could do the things he was doing in the ring. The movement, the angles, the power in both hands. Lightning in a bottle and thunder when it landed. The Roy Jones legacy is secured.
Jr. Is one of my favorite fighter of all time that I grew up watching I always wanted to see Jr. fight Gerald McClellan, Julian Jackson, Nigel Benn. Never happen they would say Jr ducked em.

Roy's only problem was he stayed on the job to long for everybody to remember him like the warrior he was.Dream match's Roy vs both Sugar Rays in there primes. I'll take Roy
yep
Roy was too big for the sugar rays I think
Sugar ray and Floyd is mine. Or manny and Duran
i take Hagler againts SRR and Roy because people forget that hagler is also elite technician boxer with greatest chin in boxing history and he hasa cardio for 30 rounds. I don't see Roy or SRR winning
@@markozbunjol625 isn't roy a little too big for marvin?
There will never be a boxer like Roy Jones again.💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Most skilled and entertaining fighter I have ever watched
Roy was one hell of pound for pond fighter!
I was absolutely blessed to have a front row seat to all his fights do imagine my heart break for the end of his career
This guy was exceptional, nobody comes close to him when he was in his prime! Just amazing how quick he was!
Roy Jones was a And1 mix tape of boxing. Still my Champ till this day 💯💪🏾🥊 🗣🔊"Yall musta Forgot "
You are the best fight channel on the entire platform. Please link the music you use they are simply amazing
Him and Leonard my favourite fighters of all time...
I never saw the greatest fights live. I always watched new fighters I watched with an apprehension. Is this the real deal? Like Ali? Foreman? Tyson? Barrera? Morales? Tommy Hearns?
First fight I saw of RJJ - I was grinning ear to ear. This here is a god!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! A joy to watch!
RJ made it looked like fine art in the ring...and he was always graceful towards his opponents...a rare quality among boxers (except big GF)!!!
Myth:
a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.
Wikipedia: “Since the term myth is widely used to imply that a story is not objectively true, the identification of a narrative as a myth can be highly controversial”
“Myths are sometimes distinguished from legends in that myths usually have no historical basis”
My 2 favorite fighters are Roy Jones and Sugar Ray Robinson. Damn, these dudes..
Roy Jones needs to see this video from rhythm boxing... The narrator sends shock waves down my spines with his beast words and analysis
His win over Virgil Hill is so underrated. Never hear it talked as one of his best wins. And Hill was a great fighter.
Roy Jones Jr.Is one of the best.Cant be touched can't be stop can't be moved can't watched can't be shooked.
I feel he’s underrated, he’s hardly ever celebrated for his greatness
I wish they’d called him the Floridian Olympian
Most brilliant lead left hook I've ever seen 🤟😆👍
This is one of the best boxing channels out there!
Greatest of all time I’m my opinion especially in his prime 🔥🔥😮💨‼️
I so appreciate you giving Roy his flowers!!!
How no Toney in this was his hardest fight ever even by his own words and he dominated
@@allenwaldon7914
Technically he may have been the best, the fighter with the best performances vs 1 or 2 high level fighters like Michael Nunn at that time.
Yeah no doubt Toney was the best he fought , both legends
The greatest ever to step in a ring
You have a epic voice. Love ur content.
@@Ozvideo1959 how you interpreting what someone else said & admitted 🤦🏾♂️ hilarious 😆
I wish he hadn't gone up in weight. He's one of my favorite fighters.
P4P the best fighter of all time. If he stayed in his wt range he probably never loses . prime Roy p4p #1.
That was incredibly well put together.
His hook so good.
Roy relied on his legs he wasn't fundamentally sound once he lost a step he hit the canvas
Yep.
Same as Ali
STILL THE BEST EVER !!!
Roy Jones Jr is my favourite fighter he's a magician he's Messi of Boxing 💯
Difficult to argue against him being the best to ever lace up gloves.
This was well done holyshit unbelievable how you presented this the world deserves more of this content
Vinny said it best about Roy " the man is too damn fast "
So jealous you got to experience this career in real time
prime Roy is in my opinion the best fighter ever 🥊
Him and lomachenko skill wise are the best fighters I’ve ever seen in my lifetime
This channel is really well done. Plethora of content and does a great job including the unique details of each fighter.
Thulani malinga is a name and surname common in my country never thought a thulani would fight roy jones jr
Excellent time and effort put into this video. Thank you for this share RJJR the man the myth the legend
This mans poetic analogies is top tier!
Please do joe frazier 🙏
I would love to see something similar to the sugar ray video, where most of the focus is on the "mere mortals" he faced
Great video as always, Roy oozed perfection for tons of fights
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. WatcHing Roy in his prime was like watching Little Mac vs Glass Joe.
Fcking amazing content!!! Your videos keep getting better.
100 thumbs up for this video. There’s never been no one like RJJ. The sad ending, though, is him trying to keep it up into his 50’s and getting knocked out cold a few times. He WAS the best though…
roy is the only boxer who has every ability…speed power defence footwork jab iq heart everything…
There was nobody as fast or as accurate as Roy Jones in his prime. He was unstoppable.
Hagler in his prime somewhere from 80 to 83 would knock out jones
The hits fighters take is unreal
You knew he would win and it might be quick, but as a fan, you knew you would see something that you would never see again, because only Roy could do the things he was doing in the ring. The movement, the angles, the power in both hands. Lightning in a bottle and thunder when it landed. The Roy Jones legacy is secured.
19:25, that was a great point and very well said
Jr. Is one of my favorite fighter of all time that I grew up watching I always wanted to see Jr. fight Gerald McClellan, Julian Jackson, Nigel Benn. Never happen they would say Jr ducked em.
they can say what ever they want. roy would have smoked em all
