You know what's really ironic? The Neverending Story cartoon series is loyal enough to the original book by adding in aspects from the book that weren't in the original first two movies and they even have Atreyu presented in his original character design from the book...and yet the cartoon series has specifically taken aspects from the Never Ending Story 3 movie. For example, the designs of the Rock Biter family, Falcor, the orin, and the tree character (who was never in the book and only in the third movie), are presented exactly the way the are in the third movie. And what's even more annoying is that Atreyu was only in like two episodes, while the annoying tree character was in like...most of the episodes.
Time for one of my darkest confessions: This is still the only movie in the series I've ever seen, and as a kid, I remember really enjoying it. Granted, that was like 16 years ago, but I'll still go stand in the corner of shame now.
Don't feel bad for liking a movie if you genuinely enjoy it but I do highly recommend the first "Neverending Story" because it's like the punk rock of children's cinema :P
Don't worry, I literally only saw it once when I was 7 or 8, and I'm pretty sure it's one of those childhood memories that would NOT hold up as adult. The first movie is one of those movies that I really do need to see, though.

Hey Jambareeqi, I am surprised that you forgot to mentiont hat even the SUBTITLE is confusing. Sometimes the subtitle is "Return to Fantasia" and other times it's "Escape from Fantasia", the complete opposite! It has no idea which one to pick.
Sorry guys your going to hate me for this but I actually thought The Neverending Story 3 was actually really amazing the only thing which could've improved on was the new family timeline of Bastian's family that's all they could've improved on and should've added Atrau in this Movie to
You know, a much better antagonist would have been 'The Darkness' (imagine a being that corrupts normally good characters and makes them evil/villainous or makes them monstrous) or 'The Sadness' (it would make everything dreary and dark, not depressed to the point of thinking life isn't fair but just melancholy and pessimistic).
The never ending story: 8.7/10 dark, emotional, though provoking and enchanting 2: 4.6/10 barfingly awful, cheesy and dumb. 3: 2/10 thank you miramax for following up a dark and emotional film that I genuinely like with this embarrassment! I’m so glad that this movie dropped the dark tone and replaced it with a terrible comedic tone with a pile of crappy “jokes”! Every single scene in this movie feels like a waste of time. This entire movie feels like a waste of time. Thank you for going giving us a group of generic bullies instead of someone actually threatening. Thank you for crapping on the first film’s majestic and detailed puppetry for something more dumbed down and simplified! Wow, I’m so glad you butchered the movie’s theme song to something more “hip and modern”. Oh wait, this movie has Jack black and he makes the movie actually funny and entertaining? Well I’ll just give this movie a 2/10 instead of a 1/10! The never ending story trilogy: 5/10. 8.6/10 if 2&3 didn’t exist in this universe.
