this singer has quite a catalog of different kinds of music! A unique singer and actress, she danced to her own drummer And was very good doing it. Good song
Bette can be surprising … a lot of her songs are loud and raucous and fun… but when she does a ballad it can melt your heart… so beautiful. Barry Manilow started out with Bette as her pianist and musical director. He helped develop her act, did arrangements for her, and produced some of her albums. She, in turn, let him sing to promote his own work. And 2 stars were born…
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. I have many of the great "Divine Miss M's" albums. She has an extremely broad catalogue of songs and styles. Check out some of her compilation 'Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook' Its a tribute album for Rosemary Clooney and she even 'sings' with her years after she passed away via electronic magic. The genre of Ms Clooneys music is called 'The Standards'. BTW she is is White Christmas, if her name sounds familiar to you.
This has always been one of my favorite recordings of Bette, she's so musical here. This is from the 1989 movie, Beaches where her character becomes the caretaker for her dying best friend. "I think it's gonna rain today..."
Such a beautiful song. Bette is a wonderful singer. Neil Diamond also did a fantastic cover of this song on his Rainbow LP, but to really hear it, you should listen to the original Randy Newman version. He wrote it, music and lyrics, for a 1971 film called "Cold Turkey" about the tobacco companies in America, and as alway there is an edge to his lyrics that comes through in that context. Randy Newman wrote SO many fantastic songs. His music is simple and beautiful, but his lyrics can cut like a razor.
This song comes from a time in my life where I didn't know what or where my life was going, so I stayed in my jammies and watched Beaches over 2 or 3 days. Over and over!. I love this soundtrack...
That was beautiful! I've always loved Bette Midler. This song was in the movie "Beaches", starring Bette Midler. I think you should add the movie to your movie reaction list! It's a wonderful movie about a lifelong friendship. Thank you for this reaction! ✌💙✌
I can't hear this song and not tear up a bit remembering the scene in Beaches when this song comes on. The despair and pain on Hillary's face when she realizes what the prognosis is of her condition. Both of these ladies, Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey, did such an amazing job in that movie. Bette actually does a great cover of Bobby Freeman's song "Do You Want To Dance?". 😎👍
Absolutely, more human kindness! I think kindness was overflowing during all this extreme weather we've been having. Strangers helping strangers, showing that kindness. 😍and taking care of each other. Also, Bette has an amazing voice, so theatrical.
Hey legends. Here like I never left. Love the Bett. Beautiful talented actress as well. Such a gorgeous angelic voice. Please check out Barbara Streisand. Especially her phycologist couch concert. Brilliant
Written by the incomparable Randy Newman. I enjoy the original version the best-just Randy and his piano, but, Bette puts more emotion in it than anyone else did.
As Jackie DeShannon sang to us in 1969, you've got to 'Think of your fellow man, lend him a helping hand, "Put a Little Love in Your Heart"'💖 After listening to this video, I want to be cheered by Bette's 1972 cover of the Andrews Sisters' 1941 hit "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and, speaking of the Andrews Sisters, their 1937 "Bei Mir Bist Du Schön" is pretty catchy too✌
Be amused and amazed at the same time, watch her "fried egg Hello in there" video. It's from a live concert, and really captures her entertainment ability. I saw her live a few times and it was never just a concert, it was always a show.
Seeing Bette Midler sing live was the entirety of my bucket list. I just knew that before she or I died I needed to hear her full glory. Any woman who gets her start in a gay bathhouse with Barry Manilow as her piano player is a legend in my book. There is nothing she can't do, and very little she hasn't done.
Highly recommend The Rose(don't remember if you did that one). This song is from the Sound Track to her movie with Barbara Hershey called Beaches. It's also worth reacting to! More songs would be Otto Titsling (absolutely hilarious) Baby Mine The Glory of Love Oh Industry Under The Boardwalk (it's a cover)
To see another side of Bette Midler check out "Stay with Me" from The Rose soundtrack. The movie is loosely based on Janis Joplin's life and this song is VERY Janis like. The "vintage video" is the best version I've found but the one from her Divine Madness concert film is good too.
This song is from the movie Beaches. Bette Midler is an incredible singer, actress and comedian. My uncle worked with her back in the 80s. He wrote her jokes for her tour. He loved working with her.
Randy Newman writes ironic songs, so he is on the right track. Kicking friends when they're down, but most humans want to think they're nice. We are overflowing, with human-kindness.. moral of the story, be kind for real.
re "Bright before me, the lines implore me Help the needy..." - I'm 73 and understand this line as it was written in a time when conflict was intense but there was a powerful movement towards universal love (circa 60s). In that movement, tho', not everyone was fully committed and could espouse Love but not give it in their own private relationships. Compare this song to the amazing Easy to be Hard rendered by Cheryl Barnes in the movie Hair. This is not to say anything against the peace/love movement, rather to remind us that if we say we believe in an ideal, we should practice it in all aspects of our lives. And, having said that, what the heck! We are all just little human things doing the best we can with what we have - it's ok to strive toward the ultimate good
Bette fantastically played the main character, the singer who became addicted and died at the end of the movie The Rose. She almost dies on stage and one of the last songs she sings is the spectacular Stay With Me Baby, after which she collapses on stage. Please, please, please, I would love for you to react to that performance because it is both an acting and a singing effort that was just amazing ruclips.net/video/scMAwJGVYA8/видео.html&start_radio=1
Bette Midler is a great actress, comedian & singer spanning 5 decades. She has won a lot of awards in many fields. She has had so many hit movies besides hit songs such as "From A Distance", "The Rose", "Wind Beneath My Wings", "Do You Want To Dance?", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", "Friends" etc.
Please, please, please..watch the movie BEACHES, 1988 ( BETTE MIDLER , BARBARA HERSHEY) this song and WIND BENEATH MY WINGS - will translate a lot different when you see the movie. It will melt and break your heart ❤️ 💔
I've been watching your videos for some time now and I have to say you guys are hilarious. I mean that in a nice way and no disrespect is intended. I especially like the way you try to categorize rock music without the benefit of having actually lived during that particular period of time (60's & 70's) in question. Hey, y'all do the best you can, and I sincerely appreciate it. But it's still funny at times. 😁 Anyway, here are two songs I thought you might want to check out from the 70's pertaining to the #1 rock band out of New York City and one of the top rock bands in history--KISS. Now, some people would say this is a "heavy metal" group, but I would disagree as I was always of the belief that heavy metal typically consisted of 2 lead guitarists. And, KISS actually only had 1 lead guitarist (Ace "Spaceman" Frehley) with Paul "Star Child" Stanley essentially performing as lead vocals and rhythm guitarist. BTW, the other two original performers were Peter "Catman" Kriss on drums and Gene "Demon" Simmons" on bass guitar. Gene is the guy with the tongue 😜and is now married to Shannon Tweed (an actress who played in a lot of sexploitation films back in the 80's). Hmmm. I'll leave it at that. 😉Be that as it may, the first song is called "Detroit, Rock City" and it came out about 1977 and involves a young guy speeding in his automobile late one night. The second song is called "Strutter" which came out about that same time and talks about a young lady who knows she looks good and flaunts it whenever she can. Anyway, if you have the time, check this out. I think you'll like it. My daughter in law is a movie buff. I told her she needs to watch a Bett Midler movie ... Beeches After she cried. She smiled and told me I hate you...... smile
This one isn’t my favorite (something about the style doesn’t capture the lyrics imo) but there are a ton of versions. Randy newman’s original is great, and I don’t always like when he does his songs. Peter Gabriel’s is my favorite, but check out Norah Jones, Cass Elliott of mamas and papas, ub40, and…mr Spock, Leonard Nimoy.
Do u hate her version of Peter Gabriel's 'Here Comes the Flood?' If so I loved her version -- Shes a great singer--He's probably more a great writer....HA!
My fav Bette Midler song, I cried buckets when I saw and heard her singing in live, even 30 years later she still sings it with such emotion.
This was a song that played in the movie Bette Midler starred in - "Beaches" . That would be a great movie to see yalls reaction to.
Buy some tissue first.
That movie made me cry like a baby.
I can watch the Otto Titsling number on repeat. Giggle from sheer childlike joy.
I start crying earlier, because I know what’s going to happen. It is still one of my favorite movies.
Can't stop crying!! Bette...Beaches..😭

Bette has an amazing catalog of songs. One of my favorites is her cover of the Beatles song In My Life. So beautiful ❤️❤️

Beautiful song and arrangement from the film Beaches and sung during the funeral scene of her best friend in the film.
Why would you tell the end?
The "Divine Miss M".
She is an awesome all around entertainer. From bawdy brass to sweet and caring, she's the whole package... 🌹💯💯🔥
You should react to "Beaches" on your movie channel....that's where this song came from.
Great movie!

Barry Manilow did the arrangement for Bette for Do You Want To Dance… almost sounds like a different song, and it’s perfect for her.. 👍
Do You Wanna Dance is my favorite of Bette’s.
Bet Midler is amazing as a singer & a actress!
Love her as a a singer and actress
Absolutely, more human kindness!

This may be her best ever performance

The absolute best version of this song. I always repeat it because it's so beautiful. Then again, so is every song from Beaches. ❤

Thanks for listening Donna!!
Bette is amazing! I love her singing so much! I also recommend her song, THE ROSE.
The best in people rarely makes the news. That kindness is there we just don't have it pointed out to us.
You guys really need to watch Beaches and The Rose.
I have always loved this song and My One True Friend
She is a great singer I love her.
Definitely check out the film BEACHES where this song is from
More love for the DIVINE Miss M. Check out "When a man Loves a Woman" and "Stay with Me", from "The Rose".
❤ help the needy & show them the way
Love you guys and your thoughtful reactions-keep these going! ❤
This song is from the movie Beaches. Bette Midler is an incredible singer, actress and comedian.
My uncle worked with her back in the 80s. He wrote her jokes for her tour. He loved working with her.
Is your uncle Bruce Vilanch? He has written most of her comedy with her since the 70's.
@@lamusiclover2264 no, Jay Grossman. He wrote with Bruce. They were good friends.
@@alishagrossman4080 Bruce is hysterical. He lives in my neighborhood.
@@lamusiclover2264 that’s awesome! Yes he is.
You really need to see her movies to understand the meanings. Beaches again, great movie.
I can't hear this song and not think of Beaches. Great movie.
As much as I like her ballads, my favorite song by her is "Miss Otis Regrets", a hilarious and upbeat song.
This a track to the tissue grabbing film Beaches 😢
This is from the movie Beaches
Try Bette's DO YOU WANNA DANCE?- The original recording from 1972 is the best.
Her best song in my opinion is THE ROSE.
Randy Newman writes ironic songs, so he is on the right track. Kicking friends when they're down, but most humans want to think they're nice. We are overflowing, with human-kindness.. moral of the story, be kind for real.

No problem
You should def react to the movie ‘Beaches’ which this song is from! So you got that part right haha ❤
Dusty Springfield's version is the definitive one. Give it a listen.

Norah Jones has the best version of this...outside of the writer and creator of it...Randy Newman.

Dusty Springfield did it better
