Hi guys .. an old coworker Julie Gold wrote this beautiful song...Julie won the Grammy award for song of the year in 1991... originally nanci Griffith recorded this song in 1988 or 1989... but bettes version was huge ... Julie is a wonderful person ...
Amen
I loved Nanci Griffith’s version
Nanci Griffith's version is the one for me.
How very cool is that? I like Nancy's version okay, but Bette's is superior by far.
@@curtisduncanmusic7645 Nanci Griffith is far,far better, no comparison
I think Better Midler is most well known for her role in the movie Beaches. She was also in Hocus Pocus, First Wives Club, Big Business, For the Boys etc.
all would be great for a reaction - and I would add "Ruthless People" too
Don't forget "THE ROSE" !!! 😊
@@jerickson725 An amazing movie!
This song is phenomenal… Brings me to tears every time. That being said, Bette Midler is a star in everything she does; you cannot go wrong with any of her work.
I have so many fond memories of listening to her throughout the 70s, starting with 'The Divine Miss M' (1972) album. Her 'Live At Last' (1977) album is one of the funniest and bawdiest performances I've ever loved. Then all through the 80s, 90s, and right up to now she's been all over my life's soundtrack, and it's been just divine.💖
Bette Midler recorded this song at the start of the Persian War in 1990. The first time I saw her was in the East Village in NYC before she became famous. She is amazing not just for her singing and acting she is also an outspoken advocate for human rights and the environment amongst many causes. There is a piece of highway in Brooklyn and Queens that she sponsors for cleanup.
Beaches, Hocus pocus (pt. 1 and 2), the rose, First Wives club, Ruthless people, Big business, Stella, Down and out in Beverly hills, Outrageous fortune are some of the movies she was cast in.
Bette is amazing. I love so many of her movies. And her music literally has brought me to tears my entire 42 years! She's just brilliant. ❤
Bette sings several songs that, in her wonderful and expressive voice, tighten your throat and make you feel the 'feels'
Bette Midler is a national treasure. Another great reaction, Asia and BJ! 💚
😊 thank you
Shes become bat shit crazy like most in Hollywood have!
Great song and Bette is a fantastic singer, it’s also awesome that the writer won a Grammy for such a well written song
Johnny Carson knew this woman's worth. When he left his decades long run on The Tonight Show he asked only that this magnificent woman would come and sing. And sing for him she did. It was beyond special. Because it was Bette. And he adored her.
You must see THE ROSE.
Forget the other movies. She poured her heart, as well as her immense talent, into that story and performance.
I mean no disrespect here, but Hocus-pocus is nothing compared to it.
I saw that show and Johny got choked up.
@@carollittle1059 he sure did. I'll never forget it. He totally adored her.
Watch her in the movie Beaches. A tear jerker. Really good.
World events at this time gave the song a resonance as an anthem during the Gulf War. It still resonates today. I love the lyrics!!!! Bette has been in "Beaches", "Hocus Pocus", "Ya-Ya Sisterhood", "For The Boys", "Parental Guidance" and many more.
Wife here...Such sweet memories with this .., I and all my friends sang this all the time in Junior High..., I've always loved this incredible message.!!❤.I think the movie was "Beaches"..This was her biggest hit movie..Though she was in many..
Asia and BJ, I was fascinated watching your faces as this song unfolded. I can tell that both of you are listening and processing, not to the music alone, but to the lyrics. And then to see you recognize the incongruity between the chorus of this song -- "God is watching us...from a distance" and Bette's role in the witch movie; that is just way cool. I agree with the song, but I have one little correction to add: God is indeed watching us, but not from a distance. He is watching us closely -- up close and personal!
Ha Ha true, but hopefully a little leeway is permissible. The movie you are speaking of is Hocus Pocus. Cheers
@@bkm2797 Thanks for informing me about the title to the movie. As for the leeway question, you'll have to ask God about that 🙂! BTW, one of the best Bette moments I've ever seen is when she sings "One More For the Road' to close out Johnny Carson's Tonight Show career. It is absolutely perfect.
Just meant that even though God watches all and see's all, he is not visible to us in 3D, so it seems like a distance. Thanks and have a great weekend.
@@bkm2797 Thanks! You too!!!
i love this song it has a great message, i also like the music video that goes with it. beaches, the rose and first wives club is my favorite movies with her in them. she is amazing.
Beaches is my favorite movie of hers. And it has a great soundtrack to it as well. The movie is touching, beautiful movie about friendship. They recently made a remake of it and it just didn’t get the feeling that the original cast did. I feel the same way about the movie Annie. You will never be able to recreate the magic and humor of the original.
Great actress and singer I love her.
Anything by this awesome lady I absolutely LOVE!!❤️ Movies or Songs... it don't matter!! She is just beautiful in every way that matters🥰 Loving this💯 thankyou!!!💜
She was in Beaches. In this movie, Mayim Bialik (later Amy on Big Bang Theory and now co-host of Jeopardy) played Bette's character as a youngster.
Mayim also had a big role in the 1990s The role of "blossom" which was also the title of the show, a teenage girl raised by a single dad with two older brothers, one a clueless skirt chaser and the other a young man with a drug problem and her bestie and partner in crime "six"
You guys would love her cover of a John Prine song, "Hello in There." Another timeless message with Bette's unique, pure gold vocals. Love her, love the classic tune, love you two 💞
Martha Z, do you have Bette's album "The Devine Ms. M"? So many good songs in that album, Hello in there, do you wanna dance, Superstar (I love Bette's version better than anyone else's as she sang it so beautifully and with such emotion) "Friends", Leader of the pack....I never tire listening to it.
@@Rhiannon011 I absolutely do Barbara ☺️ you are right, not a bad song on the whole CD. I hope Asian BJ will listen to Bette singing "Superstar" because I agree it is the best cover version of that Leon Russell song. 👍
Major roles, "The Rose," "Ruthless People," "Beaches," "Stella" "Jinxed," and Hokus Pocus, "Third Wives Club," "The Women," "Big Business," one of my absolute favorites
Great song, I remember this was out at the time of the gulf war (1991) just as poignant today (IMO) she was in hocus Pocus and beaches
She played Winifred in Hocus Pocus. She even sang in the movie. She's awesome!
You should watch First Wives Club with Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton it’s hilarious!! Also Ruthless People and Outrageous Fortune are 80’s comedies with Bette that are really good as well!
She was also in the movie the rose. Good one.
Another favorite by Bette, she has such a beautiful voice. Thank you Asia and BJ
Our pleasure!
You guys are so awesome!! Love your channel
One of my favorites. Beautiful voice.
THis song always brings me to tears... Since ive been a kid... Just because of the realizations that we distroying this world and we cant get along... But one of the best
she played Janis Joplin in The movie The Rose. She is originally a comedian...This song came out when the Iraq war started.
The song is from "For the Boys" 1991 Movie (set in WW2). One of my favorite songs of Bette's.
She was in Down and Out in Beverly Hills with Nick Nolte, a good movie to react to. Little Richard is in it too!
If you get the chance PLEASE react to BEACHES on your movie channel. It's my favorite Bette Midler movie. She has been in some really good ones and has some great songs too. From A Distance is not from a movie though, I believe.
They both have expressive faces, truly :)
HOCUS POCUS!!!!!!!!!! "Beaches" "First Wives Club" "The Rose"- some will never get the irony of this timeless song!!! This song makes you THINK!!!!!!
She's played in many movies , But she's probably most well known for the movie Beaches and if you haven't listened to that soundtrack it's a must , There's some beautiful songs on there !!
Bette Midler is a great actress, comedian & singer spanning 5 decades. She has won a lot of awards in many fields. She has had so many hit movies besides hit songs such as "The Rose", "Wind Beneath My Wings", "Do You Want To Dance", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", "Do You Wanna Dance?", "Friends" etc.
Yes!♡
Yes! Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy is off her album/stage show "Divine Madness". What a performance!!
She also does a decent version of Beast of Burden.
Bette sings this song the best. Absolutely brings a smile to my face whenever I hear it.
I adore Bette
I can never hear this song without crying! 😢😢
This was popular with the soldiers during Desert Storm.
Hocus pocus, First Wives club, and Ruthless People and little tibet one of her backup singers used to be Katie Sager (Peggy Bundy)
First Wives Club, Hocus-pocus, several other movies, but she began her career as a singer.
She was in Beaches and Hocus Pocus are two of her biggest roles. She started out as a singer though.
Oh Bette!! I grew up on Bette! What a treasure. Check her out in hocus pocus
She was in Beaches, Hocus Pocus, For the Boys just to name a few movies. Bette had many talents.....her voice is dynamic, sultry and strong...
This song was made for the gulf war in the early 90’s this was like the “We are the World”.
It was written a few years before the Gulf War by my friend, Julie Gold. It was first recorded by the great Nanci Griffith in 1987.
Better Midler released her version in 1990. The Gulf War provided an environment that resonated with this anthem, which won a Grammy for Julie.
She is fenominal her voice her acting wow
The Rose was a movie about Janice Joplin's life , So Bette Midler played Janice joplin !
I would love to hear Asia sing this.
Beaches and Hocus Pocus. She was terrific in both
Wind beneath my wings was one of my favorite songs she does and from a great movie. Beaches
You really should listen to The Rose and Wind Beneath My Wings. Preferably not necessarily the live version of The Rose. If you want more upbeat try Miss Otis Regrets or Bugle Boy of Co B
A quite beautiful song
Quite an uplifting song, love it! God bless you all 😇😇😇
Love the Divine Miss "M". She is an all around stellar talent. She bawdy, bold, funny and everything in between.
Bette Midler's current movie is "Hocus Pocus 2" but she is famous for "The Rose", "Beaches", "First Wives Club",
Beautiful song ... she also plays in Drowning Mona
Bette is most known (for me) from Hocus Pocus, The Rose, First Wives Club, Big business and Beaches but she has been in many things since the 70's
The devine Ms M played in For the Boys, which I think this song if from, The Rose, First Wives Club, Beaches, & of course the Hocus Pocus movies.
Bette Midler has a GREAT movie for your other channel. She stars with Lily Tomlin in Big Business. It's a little older - from 87 I think. But it's SO funny - she and Lily give awesome performances.
This song is written by Julie Gold and performed by many . This is the most famous version.
She was in Beaches, The First Wives Club, The Rose, Hocus Pocus 1and 2 to name a few
I don't think this song was in a movie, but she had another big hit in a movie she also starred in called "Beaches," and the song was "Wind Beneath My Wings." That is the song/movie you may be thinking of. But she has been in a lot of films. She is a great actress, as well as a singer. I recommend looking up her movie credits and checking them out. She was wonderful in "The Rose," which is loosely based on the famous 60's singer Janis Joplin who died of a drug overdose.
I love Bette Midler.
You missed her in the chorus of We Are The World…you really should see her in a movie called First Wives Club…very funny!!🖖🏻🇨🇦
Better Midler was also in Big Business with Lily Tomlin - it is an 80s movie. I think she did some theatre and other acting as well. Very versatile
The whole Rose soundtrack was good!
Some awesome movies with Bette Midler are “Beaches” and “Hocus Pocus” and “Outrageous Fortune”.
Bette has made 44 movies, the ones that stand out for me are: The Rose, Beaches, Hocus Posus I and II, The First Wives' Club.
Bette has a long list of movies... Beaches came out a few years before the album. One of the first cassette tapes I bought myself along with Wilson Phillips and Milli Vanilli.
Would absolutley love to see a react to Beaches. No one has done a react to it yet!!
Beaches probably her best movie.
Such a good song. Very relaxing. Bette is a good singer and really tells a story well. Try watching the music video sometime. Things that she sung about makes more sense. Nice reaction yall. She appeared in the song "We Are The World" that you both reacted to, the best music artist collab in history.
No not in any movies - this coincided with the Gulf War...sadly, yet, Divinely 😀
WATCH THE ROSE,,,,IT IS A TAKE OFF OF A TROUBLED ROCK N ROLL SINGER IN THE 70S!! A STORY KINDA RELATED TO JANIS JOPLIN...BUT NOT ABOUT HER!!! GREAT MOVIE!!SHE WAS NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR...SHE SHOULD HAVE WON!!!
Beautiful song
She was in Hocus pocus, Beaches
,The Rose, and a few other movies.
Bette Midler is famous for Beaches and Hocus Pocus
Every time I hear her ballads they make me cry. Please do Wind beneath my wings from the movie Beaches, which you must must react in your movie channel....and...The Rose, paying homage to Janis Joplin. Another movie you need to do please. Thank you. Lots of love from Australia x
Bette has a movie career that goes back to the 1970's when she starred in "The Rose" (oscar nominated).
You need to add Bette Midler to your movie reaction side, and check out Outrageous Fortune, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Big Business, and The Rose. I personally can't stand Beaches, but I know it's a fan favorite. Bette Midler is a quadruple threat, get in there!
This song hits you in the feels, we all have hope to live in a place of peace 🙏🏼
A beautiful song
Bette was not in A Star is Born. Barbra Streisand did that movie around 1976 before Lady Gaga remade it. Hocus Pocus 2 just came out on Disney +. It was the most watched premier on that channel's history.
You seems so in to the music, witch makes your reaction so much more beautiful 😍 ❤
Yes she is fantastic lady, so tell Talented.
BEACHES
FIRST WIFES CLUB.
These are two of my favourite movies from her.
The first you will need tissues, the second is a bit sad but will make you laugh a lot Bette, Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton are the three lead ladies. Must watch. ❤
This is all I've ever wanted! Peace, love, freedom, goodwill, plenty; and no more flora and fauna extinctions! No more people dying in wars... 😞
For our descendants to be able to live in such a wonderful world! 😢
Comedian, singer and actress. Check her out in Beaches. Wind Beneath My Wings is the moive trac song.
She stared in the movie BEACHES 🥰
The movie this song is in is Beaches along with wind beneath my wings
Love you guys
Okay. Here are some:
Big Business (lighthearted, light comedy, fun watch)
Drowning Mona (a truly underrated gem - - weird, funny, offbeat whodunnit)
Freak Show (a contemporary LGBT gem; hard to describe - - a great watch, though)
The Rose (loosely based on Janis Joplin's life, Bette sings and acts her ass off in this)
The First Wives Club (also starring Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton)
Ruthless People (hilarious, zany, co-starring Danny Devito)
For The Boys (she plays a USO singer during WWII (great musical acts)
Beaches (a drama, also with some great music and featuring a very young Mayim Bialik (a.k.a. Blossom, a.k.a. Amy Farrah Fowler - she plays the young version of Bette's character)
Outrageous Fortune (outrageous comedy)
and..... most people miss this appearance, but Bette Midler sang in the chorus of We Are the World. She's hard to miss if you know she's there, because I think she's the only red in the group; she's visible in a quick pan across the group, all the way to the right (stage left, audience right).
She's also played Mama Rose in a version of Gypsy and she's portrayed Mae West as well (I haven't seen her Gypsy or Mae West performances, but I imagine she was great in both. I may watch these, actually. I may have seen her Gypsy. I've seen a bunch of versions, the Mae West movie I only recently learned about).
2023. Thanks & prayers. Peace.
god bless Julie Gold for such a great Anthem and Bette Midler for such a rousing rendition what an anti-war song
Bette did a couple of episodes of Seinfeld, very funny
Bette is also The Devine Miss Middler ... Look her up by yhis name on youtube & enjoy the vids of her stage shows!!
You will Love Her!!
The Nanci Griffiths version is the original and most meaningful and although I love Bette Midler this isn't my favourite. You should react to, Trouble in the Fields by Nanci Griffiths. And watch the hilarious movie called BIG BUSINESS with Bette Midler.
The Devine Ms. M! SHE'S BEEN SEVERAL movies. Y'all should do a movie reaction to, "The Rose" or "Beaches"
She's been a bunch of good movies. My favorite is Beaches, which you should totally watch! Just be sure you have tissues with you! Big Business is another good one, but more of a comedy.
Love Bette. She can do no wrong. Great reaction 😊
😊 thank you
I know what people said about this song, but in Canada the radio stations played that song all the time during, when the United States started the gulf war, remember when those people had to put down those fire pipe lines, to me this was just yesterday, and bill burr made a joke about the hard job of a mother staying home or harder job for the men to put out a 40000degrees i think it was really written earlier due the gulf war was at its debut , they wanted to fight the Americans dude to petrol,
This song definitely goes in my cookie jar
