The MOST Versatile Bar Ever! The Maverick Bar, What Can't It Do?!

- This is easily the most versatile bar ever created. PhenoX Fitness has created the most unique and adaptable barbell out there but how well does it work? Well we're about to find out as I run it through an incredible amount of exercises and variations.
Think of it as a modular open trap but with so many more tricks up its sleeve. I've spent weeks trying every exercise I could with this bar and I've never seen anything like this specialty bar.

Most versatile piece of equipment out there? Let us know what competes with this bar!
Well since you asked the question I’ll submit this thought. I NEVER had any desire for loadable dumbbells because of the risks of weight sliding off but the Gungnir ones really may offer the most versatility of anything out there. And it’s safe overhead. So lunges, squats, presses, you can go as low on depth as much as your chest will allow. Better for curls, rows, and quicker to set up. Is there something this bar will do that the Gungnir dumbbells can’t do better or won’t do at all??
@@meisdetermined two separate product categories but obviously any hip hinge pattern can’t be loaded heavily enough with dumbbells
@@BrandonSchwartz1 what CANT you do with dumbbells that you can with a trap bar? You can do deadlifts, RDLs, squat (regular or goblet). I think you can hit every muscle with dumbbells. Not to mention suitcase carries, farmers walk, etc. dumbbells are the greatest and most versatile piece of equipment…EVER! :) immediately followed by the barbell.
@@meisdetermined Hip thrusts.
@@razhua That is a very good answer! And while I guess it is possible to attach a dip belt to them and have a set of dumbbells on each side I don’t think anyone would be that desperate to use dumbbells for that purpose lol. But it’s possible! 😂
Gluck, your support of a small business means a lot. It's easy to do things that benefit yourself, but not doing that is exactly why PhenoX is here in the first place. Giving back to the community you serve is much more rewarding than making a few extra bucks per bar. You're being rewarded right now by your followers trusting you as they should. Great fair and honest review.... however it's your squat not the bar.... 😂.
Another great review!
"Basement Brandon was busy." LMAO. I love it when people can make these comments and everybody knows it's all in good fun. Some people take life way too seriously.
You're 100% right there. Trying to have some fun 😊 thanks!
The lego of barbells. I do love the versatility. I mostly would use it for varying my grip for rows. That was the biggest bar I have ever seen anyone curl with lol
Damn that's a good line... wish I thought of it. It does very well at varying width, quick and easy to change that. HAHAHA my biggest accomplishment yet, curling with a large bar.
I have never been so conflicted by the appearance of a bar😂 As an idea though, it is so cool. And the fact that he isn’t out here trying to fleece people makes it even more attractive.
He legit should charge more! Haah yeah it's definitely good a unique look to it
:14 I use this phrase in the Transformer bar video I just put up. We must have mind melded a bit being so close location-wise.
You cut off the first part of the time stamp
@@GlucksGym 00:14 re: “Jack”
I subscribed solely because you are supporting this guy. Please review more of his stuff. I wish I knew of his equipment sooner!
With all the (well deserved) shout-outs to Basement Brandon you should refer to yourself as "Ground-Level Gluck"
Hahaha maybe I should just stop publicizing others
If this thing is still for sale in like a year when I can move my home gym into a workable space again, I'm buying this bar. Great design!
Great video. Also I'm Here for Basement Brandons response lol
The real question is if nobody tells him will he watch?!
@@GlucksGym If a Basement Brandon falls in the woods and no one is around, does he make a sound?
This is such a great bar! I definitely want one of these and some of the other unique equipment they made. Please review more of the stuff they make.
9:30 LOL looks goofy, like a giant neck brace or shock collar haha
Probably could win the title of Best Versatility (versatile?) bar.
And hats off to the creator for thinking outside the box.
Yeah it kinda it does 😅 I'm not sure I know of another bar that can do so much.
Very ingenious product, and you did a thorough and interesting review. Great exposure for a small company.
Thanks John. I appreciate your consistent support! The video is performing very well so hopefully it benefits him!
Great review as always. I am glad I didn’t jump the gun on buying the Maverick Bar. I like the many usage but will need to see this develop a little more maybe V2 in the future.
It'll be cool to see where this thing goes!
I've had my eye on this for a minute now and was waiting to start seeing more reviews and usage of it. Its definitely got balanced list of pros and cons and I think it will get a bit more refined as time goes on.
I know of one other person who is putting out a vid(s) but I doubt you'll see much since he doesn't have an affiliate.
I discovered this bar because of this review and ended up buying it. We wanted a trap bar and this was right in that price range and far more versatile so I figured anything else it does is gravy. It is a bit rough around the edges, but what do you expect at this price for a pioneering product? I love it. Most of the things it can do have exceeded my expectations. As I'm getting older I find myself needing to find more alternative movements and this bar is going to help a lot with that. I got the smaller version because I didn't want this bar to limit my rack choices in the future. I'm glad I did because it is kind of awkwardly large. The narrower width makes it easy to avoid hitting the uprights and safeties when in the rack.
Configuring it is a bit confusing at first but I'm starting to get the hang of it (deadlift is immediately obvious, other lifts take some thought). I just can't say enough about how much fun this bar is to play with. And thank you Gluck for giving this bar some exposure with a fair and honest review. I agree with with you, it may not be perfect but at this price there's not much to complain about. There's nothing else like it.
are you still happy with it 3mo later? I'm thinking about buying one. As a trap bar replacement it looks great. I'm curious about squats on it though, if it's a decent SSB replacement then the value is totally worth it (trap bar + SSB would cost more anyway)
The only type of specialty bar I don't have is a trap bar, so this could be pretty cool for the added versatility. I've also been impatiently waiting for Rep Fitness to tell us about their trap bar's special feature. They're being such a tease!
You've been watching their IG stories I see 😂 It's not gonna live up to the hype now. We'll be reviewing that one too, I wonder how it competes.
It's really creative. Great idea! 💡
that is an awesome piece. Thanks for the overview
Wanna trade for that Stray Dog bench 😍
I don’t have a desire to buy bars right now, but I’ll always check out a new Gluck video. Love the station.
Love the support! That's all I can ask for. Thank you!
I love this bar and want it one day. The deadlift variations alone look really useful.
It's pretty cool and I kept screwing up the 495lb block pull with the drop so had to keep recordkng it and it held up fine
@@GlucksGym those video retakes make or break your efforts lol. I feel the pain of that.
@@ironhallgym yeah it was a lot of fun redoing then 😂
I saw the thumbnail and thought this was going to be some kind of gimmicky piece of equipment. After watching this review though....I kinda want one
This is possibly my favorite video you've done so far. This is such a unique piece of equipment that was nowhere near my radar.
Now when will they add an attachment to the bar that allows you to connect it to your rack or to jammer arms?
Thank you. I'm pretty sure he has a video where it's attached to the jammer arms they make and possibly even one where he's got it on his landmine.
That is such an innovative piece of equipment especially if you're trying to keep your specialty bar count lower.
And I do need to note there is a knurling conversation in this review without the cat tongue baseline so I felt totally lost on how the knurling might feel 😹
Hahaha true. I was reserving it for traditional barbells but maybe I need to bring it back soon
Interesting concept. I am limited on space in my home gym and this might be a good fit. I am always wary of things that try to do too much but this was a good review.
I'm exactly the same, it's hard to do a lot of things well but with limited space it might be an interesting bar.
Blessing us with two straight days of videos!!! You are spoiling us!
Hahaha does the short count?!
@@GlucksGym probably not. Still great video. I’m sure lots of us would have never heard about this product without you making the video
@@danielpicerni24 you're probably right sadly. Hope it does well!
It’s a genuinely cool concept and while I’m not sure if I’ll make the leap and buy this one, I’ll definitely keep an eye on their products and purchase something from them eventually since they’re somewhat local to me. Thanks for the review and for making me aware of having such an innovative company in my back yard!
I'll be keeping an eye on them as well. They've got some great ideas and it'll be cool to see what else comes from PhenoX. Thanks for the comment and support!
Slam dunk bar and priceless sense of wry humour. You are awesome 👍
I like this guy 😊
Not sure if this is something I'll be looking into purchasing or not, but it's definitely very interesting
Great video, as always. Very informative
Thanks! It was an interesting one to review.
People probably already bought BOS and REP power rack stuff to reward you for playing fair.
That bar is the kind of thing that I dig... thanks for the review. I hope you helped a lot of buyers !
I did the best I could with it and thought it deserved some more attention.
We've been fortunate this far with affiliates but it's a roller coaster with a lot of days of nothing (not complaining) so we're hoping it picks up so we can keep at it.
Love it
Great video
Thank you!
I just checked out PhenoX thanks to this video and my god they have a lot of cool inventions!
He's a creative dude, very interested to see where he goes with things
Appreciate you reviewing smaller manufacturers, and not playing the influencer game.
We gotta make money at some point but it's not entirely why I gotta into it you know?
The innuendos are strong with this one.
Yeah I might've gone overboard 😬
G over here looking ripped AF on that farmers carry. Looking good brother!
Haha thanks 😊
Awesome video and that is a super unique and interesting bar! My current open trap bar is a the terrible HulkFit brand. This will probably replace it
Oh... That bar... 😂
I’ve been following Gordon’s work on Facebook for a while now, I would have totally bought one if I lived in the same country.
You're not the first person to say that for the bar. Actually I get that a lot on this channel.
You were right at the end about how a bar like this pushes the industry to innovate a lot more. IMO for me, this bar is the jack of all trades, master of none. But, for many people, who just want to lift for health, this bar could do almost anything they would ever need after a general lifting bar. The weight limit is where I am leary and would love to see the final version that is quicker and easier to switch around... excellent review and demonstrations of some sample exercises!
I'll be interested to see the final capacity as well. I beat on it some at 500 lbs and think it can clearly hold more but can see why he'd be conservative with the posted limit. Could be a great bar for the right people.
@@GlucksGym Yup, you are right and that price point to variety of movements is incredible!
@@joecowan3719 yeah. I legit tried to get him to charge more, it's made in the US!
The fact that this is the same price as Rep’s open trap is enticing
Gluck, can you please do an opinion review on the most to least essential specialty bars for a home gym??? Could compare the specialty bar types based on versatility, how much quality it adds to exercises you use it for relative to a standard barbell, and overall value. Trap bars, EZ curl bars, safety squat bars, multiple multi grip bars, cambered bars, bamboo bars, and beyond!
Really cool bar. I am interested in seeing the continued improvements.
Some good and creative innuendos in this vid.
And does Winnie know you have such a crush on basement Brandon?
She's well aware 😂
@@GlucksGym haha.
Cool bar
I built a rack mounted belt squat for my home gym, and I think he could easily make an attachment that could replicate it.
This is actually an invetion with great potential if the execution's a bit better. As a powerliftier, we gotta train on barbells. But for most homegym random fiteness enthusiasts, it could be a great way to add variations to not get bored
I would buy this
So many “that’s what she said” opportunities 😂
What we thought that rogue bar was gonna offer 😂
I almost made a reference to that in the video 😂
With those offsets must be great to do floor presses with it, if you don't have a rack.
Thanks!
Thank you 😊
@@GlucksGym Good review. Great Arnold tshirt! The Maverick Bar has potential to be something good for the home gym. Good choice.
He seems like a nice guy and I was genuinely interested in it. Wynie got me that shirt for my bday last year.
I was responding to comments on my phone which apparently doesn't show that Super Thanks so I was just responding to what I thought was your algorithm comment but now I see the icon so thank you so much!
The use of sexual innuendo was masterful in this video. .. Also the bar was very cool and had I not already bought a bunch of speciality bars, I'd seriously consider getting this modular marvel!
I don't remember saying anything that could be misconstrued as an innuendo 😯
@@GlucksGym 🤣🤣🤣
Looks cool. Nice Jurassic Park reference
Been trying to figure out gotta to work that one into a video for months 😂
Love the bar, Love that you support innovative & American businesses. My concern is this: In its current state it has very fun potential but it looks like a very slick prototype. I'd be worried id buy it and then in a year after he gathered all of our feedback he would release a 2.0 version etc. Props to him, this bar and his whole site are absolutely awesome
Yeah that very well may be the case but hopefully he gets enough sales that we ever get to see version 2
Are u going to give us the update on this bar or what. I think this is the most interesting bar of all time
looks like an easy bar to load and to get in and out when doing hip thrusts
Great review! - but how does the knurl rank on the cat tongue scale?
I almost put that in there but tbh this video took an incredible amount of testing and research and I started to get worn down
ouuu was considering the new rep fitness trap bar but this is much more appealing now at the same price
Ohh we'll be covering that one as well. Definitely interested in seeing how they compare.
@@GlucksGym i have the kabuki trap bar but think the maverick is different enough to cop it lol
Haha.... I have talked to Gordon a few times about prices. He isn't in it for the money just loves doin what he does. He has helped me get the creative ball rolling quite a few times.
I think it'd be cool if you picked up that Evo ID rack.
Im really glad youre covering him and the small business, hopefully this repeats as a trend.
Yeah he really just wants to help people and not in the, that's what you're supposed to say kinda way.
I hope to keep on going with them. We've already got XII XI and Belt Fed ready to go!
I’d love this for rows and floor press! Maybe legs too……😂🦵
You're working legs now?!

If not check out Time Suck podcast. Based on your videos seems like the comedy might be right up your alley. 🎳
Just being able to buy one bar that has the functionality of a trap/hex bar, and cambered bar (+ more) would save so much space in my home gym, and who can say no to more ways of doing curls?
Hahaha gotta have more curls. Cool to see one bar attempt so many things.
While Titan will eventually come out with their version, The Goose Bar (please tell me you get this reference), I'm really most excited for your review of the Yaheetech model.
Damn missed Top Gun references will haunt me for the rest of my life!

Looks like they raised the bar for a multipurpose piece of gym equipment.
May need to look into this for my own gym after things get refined.
Are you trying to make puns over there?!
@@GlucksGym Well... had to add to your list of puns you had during the video. Good Review...
But.... seriously going to keep my eye on this thing. Hopefully by next year they'll have refined things.
Gotta buy this before Coop from garage gym reviews does a video on it and it sells out
I think you're safe 😂
Gluck Gluck Gluck, Silly Goose!
Interesting never seen this bar before... I have seen his Instagram but but don't check that regularly
Yeah that's where I first heard of him and started talking to him. 7 months later and here we are.
So many functions, but I'm too lazy / impatient to adjust them. Plus, the easy storage option rubs salt in the wound because my garage gym has zero accessible wall space, due to lack of hindsight and a plethora of future antiques. What to do?
😂 Sounds like you've gotten town's into quite the predicament
I'm impressed they got it down to $399. It's not for me - I don't even like having to adjust my j-cups... but it's an interesting bar.
It's not for everyone but that price really has me wondering how much these other corporations are making on a sale.
Barbell Rescue is a small veteran owned company that makes a nice product.
I follow him, cool product. We'll have to see what the future brings.
What about military press?
I am going to be making a purchase using your affiliate link in hopes that you use the money to buy some T shirts that fit.
No shirts fit me but feel free to use my link 😉 except on this bar, that link doesn't exist
1:55 haha!
😬😂
It’s a really cool idea but the website lists it as having a 500lb weight capacity which is a shame. I would seriously consider getting one to replace my Eleiko Oppen bar if not for that limitation.
I beat on it some at 500lbs and thinks it's probably a conservative number but can see why he'd do that. I was told the mods will probably add another 100lbs.
“What can’t it do?”
Fit in my garage
Hahaha I can't help you there
Do you still use this bar ?
Another great review. Silly over designed product… but very well reviewed!
There’s a reason why barbells it’s been around for so long
You are soon as smooth with the sexual innuendos as Will Tennyson is xD
😂 that's a pretty good compliment
I know everyone is different but I would rather spend more money on specialty bars and have something that saves me time from having to set up a lot. Besides if I had one bar that did it all think about how much stuff I would have to stop buying! No sir!!! No thank you lol
You're right, everyone is different. I have the space for a lot of stuff so it doesn't make as much space to me but I can see this really working for a lot of people. More importantly, I also need to keep buying 😂
This bar looks a lot more useful than I thought. Not sure I could live with the sloppy fit though. I guess it's not like you are doing Olympic lifts with it, but still, seems like it would be distracting.
I thought it would be but I didn't notice it when actually lifting but I get what you mean
Could you please add centimeters and kilograms when you reference inches and pounds? Your audience outside the US would really appreciate it!
It's 475 without the rotating handles.
I'd love a story about how you met Wynnie because I too want to meet a girl like Wynnie and would like to replicate your success

Very versatile piece of equipment but I’m a firm believer when you try to do too many things, it just doesn’t work the best. Price is great but I’d never buy it due to the feeling of everything feeling loose with those hitch pins.
That's one of my mantras but it pulled it off better than expected. Excited to see where it goes from here.
for the algorithm. The "bar" seems a little wonky. Feel like I'd waste a lot of time fiddling with pins and handle symmetry.
It's not the most efficient if you're using it for several different exercises. It's not difficult to swap around but slower than using something that was built for those specific things but also the only bar that can even attempt it all.
Shame that they don't ship to europe. I'd buy this in a second but I don't want to get destroyed by going throug ha reseller and paying per lb of weight. Someday if they sell to Europe I'll get this,
