    The Jerry Fisher period was one of the best in the history of BS&T. They really stretched out (jazz wise) during this time.

    Bobby Colomby was my favorite drummer growing up. I never saw him stretch out in a solo like he did here. Tasty with chops. He played so musically.

    High on a snow-covered mountain
    From her throne she looks down at the clowns
    Who think youth can be found in a fountain
    High on the wings of her rhythms
    She will smile at the guys who come on with their eyes
    But she'll never dance with them
    And in smoke-filled rooms of electric sound
    A legend is built around
    The Snow Queen
    You may believe you're a winner
    But with her you will soon bite the dust
    And discover you're just a beginner
    You may not think you're a loser
    But in mid-air you'll be hung while you trip on your tongue
    And it'll only amuse her
    In the morning haze you are frozen there
    Caught in the icy stare of
    The Snow Queen
    No, my friend, she doesn't want what you're selling
    Go, my friend, there must be a place you can hide
    [Chorus]
    And into the night you'll fade, knowing you've lost the game
    And just how she got the name of
    The Snow Queen

    I can't believe I finally found this performance after so many years. I recorded it on my crappy reel to reel from the radio simocast and I knew this as soon as I heard it. This was called "In Concert" back in about 1972 or 1973. It changed my whole direction as a musician. Thank God! This is still great..

      Same here!!! I have been checking youtube on and off for years for this. I had it on cassette (recorded from a KSAN simulcast) and remember listening a bunch of times. The tape must have crapped out eventually. I was a 16 yr old connoisseur, and ABC In Concert was very influential in those formative years. WOW!

      In the winter of 1972-73, they played and recorded a concert in the Suffern High School auditorium in Rockland County, NY.
      Could this be that concert?

    Ive been digging into BS&T's discography all these years later in my mid 30's. In a way i kind of discounted them in my early teens apart from Chicago and Tower of Power. The only song I'd heard i liked and it was "Spinning Wheel" but never dug into their catalog. I was up late one night and time life had their oldies cd set programs going and as i flipped to the station it was Jerry Fisher singing "So Very Happy" and i decided at that moment to see what they were all about and im glad i did!

    Snow queen.....that song, yes that song was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin.
    Carole King's versions (2) are so different
    The first is on her actually debut album in 1967 ,called "now that everything 's been said". Recorded as a group called the City.
    Her second version is on her 1980 album "Pearls: songs of Goffin and King "
    I prefer both of her versions.
    Peace.

    Very nice. Always found it odd that the group replaced David-ClaytonThomas with Jerry Fisher, who sounded NOTHING like DCT. This must be from early '73, as I see they still have Chuck Mansfield, and no Tom "Bones" Malone, who was in the band when the album "No Sweat" was released in the fall of '73.

      BS&T was on In Concert twice - Dec 1972, and Oct 1973

    • @rscorser
      @rscorser 2 года назад +3

      I think that was the point! Jerry Fisher has ranges that DCT can’t even touch. Two totally different kinds of vocalists. Allowing the musicians to explore into deeper and unplayed areas as totally heard on this recording. Imagine DCT doing this. It just doesn’t fit.

    • @77barrymac
      @77barrymac 2 года назад +1

      @@rscorser , that may have been the point, but when they were in concert, they were doing songs from those three previous albums, and Fisher singing those songs just doesn't sound right. That said, I pretty much liked the "New Blood" and "No Sweat" albums. "Mirror Image", not so much.

    • @rscorser
      @rscorser 2 года назад +4

      @@77barrymac Actually the majority of the songs they performed live during the Fisher-era of the band were from the Fisher era, with only a relatively small handful of songs (hits) from BS&T 2 performed live between 1972 - 1974. Fisher himself never performed anything that I've heard from CIFTM, or BS&T 3 or 4. His unique take on the ones he DID sing were all from BS&T 2 and were great IMO, such as You've Made So Very Happy, God Bless The Child, and And When I Die. Even his Spinning Wheel isn't that bad, but that was played or recorded much less. LaCroix did I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know during the Mirror Image tour and it was pretty damn good too. Jerry Fisher proved that he could do his own style within his own band-era tunes, as well as certain DCT tunes. On the other hand, I can't picture DCT singing a lot of Jerry's tunes. Jerry is much more versatile IMO.

      Jerry Fisher was on a completely different level. To this day, I’m surprised he didn’t have a huge career. He had better chops than many of the superstar singers of that period.
