    Good video, I just ordered a slide lock similar to the you just installed. Added safety when leaving for a while. Most people ignore that garage offers easy access to house(most people don't lock the door that gives access to the house from inside garage) Once burglar is in the garage then he's protected from being spotted by neighbors. And like you said, garage provide and exit door for large objects like TVs.

      Yes, but the burglars in Los Angeles not only try to rollup your door but they will loosen the middle of the door and go "over" the top of the garage door so you need or should but these types of locks on the top of the door and not so much the bottom...they actually pushed in the top panel and reached over and took the top wheel out...this allowed them space to push themselves up and over the garage door! Beware is all, liked the idea of security screws for mounting would help/slow down.

    Hint: Gaffer tape the 'unlocked' lock to the door in the proposed location PRIOR to permanently fixing it in place and then run the door up and down to make sure the new lock doesn't hit anything. If all OK, you can fix it in the proposed location with confidence.

    They can still get the door open from the inside using your own tools that they found while ripping you off. Most people don't have their tools locked up in a high security cabinet. Even locked with the padlock, if they find your socket set, nut drivers, pliers, vicegrips, your drill and nut driver bit hand grinder they are going to open that door. The thing is to do everything you can to keep them from getting in.

    Now how about some video of operating the door with lock installed and bolt retracted? The lock you installed MIGHT clear the bend in the rail but the more complex alternative definitely won't. Why? Because the bolt doesn't fully retract out of the door rail and must therefore follow it through the door's full travel range, including 90 degree bend. The straight door panel to which its attached cannot track through that bend. The bolt will bind and probably tear up both door and rail.

    What happens when you lock the garage and forget, then you open it. Will the garage motor and chain break?

    I too would like to know what happens if you accidentally start the garage door opener when the door is locked. Are those motors designed to stop when they feel pressure, or will it continue to run and burn itself out by trying to move an immovable object?

    • @abdomination
      @abdomination 4 года назад

      I would imagine that it would stop similar to when someone is passing the sensor.

    • @daveknapp2000

      Your garage door is designed to stop working with an overlimit switch on the motor....if you don't have that style then you have an opener from the 1960"s LOL and you have to add a power cut over limit switch.

      even if you remove the bolts, the padlock would not allow you to easily remove this lock right?

    • @squee222
      @squee222 5 лет назад +1

      The force applied on the door is up down - not pulling on the screws - so yes - it should do the trick.
      Nothing is 100% in security - it's about being more secure than the other guy, who then becomes the target.
