1971 Honda CB100 First Start - WILL IT RUN???

  • First start of my recently purchased 1971 Honda CB100 motorcycle. I have soft spot for this model, year, and color, as it was the first 'street-legal' bike I owned and registered years ago. Sold my original years ago, so when I saw this one I had to have it.
    I was super excited to hear that distinct small displacement single cylinder thumper sound again through the exhaust. Would it start easily or at all after several years of storage by the previous owner? Check it out!

    This was my first bike, I had the white and blue configuration. I would give anything to find one of these for sale and fix it up !!! Good for you man !!!

      Jeremy, the CB100 was also the first motorcycle I licensed for street use, and I rode it all throughout college back in 2005 to 2009. It was a great bike, and was my uncle's when he was younger. When I saw another one exactly in the same year and color for sale, I knew I had to have it and get it going to bring back some memories! Thanks for sharing!

    Yes, this was my first bike as well and yes it was blue and white. Mine didn't run very well but I didn't know how to fix it up back then. Man, wish I had it back.

      Kent, that's how it always goes with most bikes we have owned, right?! Funny how much better we could have made stuff run 'back then' if we had the knowledge and resources that we do now :)

      I still have the CB100, will probably be listing it for sale at auction this next spring once the weather warms up! They're cool little bikes!

    Iv just bought one to restore. Do you have any recommendations where i can get parts and how to re do the paint job on the tank

    • @retro_grade
      @retro_grade  4 месяца назад

      Nice! For parts, I would suggest trying CSMNL - they're a pretty good source and have all the parts diagrams. Shipping is pretty quick too.
      For paint, that's a tossup. I've used a couple of local automotive painters and they're never terribly reliable for motorcycle stuff. Takes forever to get anything back. I've done a couple of paint jobs that turned out OK using PPG paint, but it took forever and I hated doing it. For these reasons, I typically try to only buy bikes with decent original paint like this one.

    Can you show full wiring on the bike? I have confusion of putting new wiring on my long abandoned bike😑

      @ afiq cb - if I have time to, maybe. It would require to pull the tank and several parts though. What are you having trouble with?

      The one I have is a 71 that I got when I was 10 it has 4000 miles on it but those were hard miles. I had to rebuild the engine but it had sat for 30 years

    This guy has never heard of carbon monoxide poisoning. He's operating his motor in his garage without adequate ventilation. He only opens the garage door at the end of his start up and adjustment run.
