Ten years ago I basically stopped listing to jazz (after 30 years) and started listening to her. I’ve turned into this ridiculous Shreya fanboy, there is no getting away from it. Her command of her instrument is unprecedented, in that she has completely mastered both western and Indian musics. She has more gears she can shift into, hence her capacity to surprise and inspire is seemingly endless. Imagine what she could do if she started singing regularly in English...
What's going on between the musicians is called "Jugalbandi" in indian traditional music where they communicate with each other with their instruments.
Berkley music school knows a lot about indian music. The students are big fans of indian composers and singers. So when she accepted their invite to hold master classes there and end the trip with a performance, they were super excited!❤❤
Singers are classically trained first at a very young age in india and they taught to use their hands to sing and one thing their pitch must be perfect. She is increasing and decreasing volume it's like is dancing with the music.
I agree. *I honestly didn't like this performance.* *She is trying to show off.* *The musicians are trying to show off.* And all of this is just creating a cacophonous mess! It's a beautifully restrained classic song. Don't destroy it by your over-zealousness.
@@bobinpune i commented similar thing somewhere and people attacked me. I have nothing against Shreya tbh, she is phenomenal no doubt but this one I'd hands down prefer the original one. However, in this ensemble, I loved what violinist did. I had to search his name to find out more about his work. But rest the original one is a gem.

@@tony-pc4kd you need to read my reply again. Never did I mention this word "showoff" anywhere. Neither did I fail to mention how phenomenal she is in general. And I made my comment to express my OPINION which I did. I simply prefer the simplicity of the original one and this one was simply overdone. You can have your own choice but do remember to get your eyesight checked since you couldn't read a simple comment properly without getting triggered.
The violinist is a caucasian American Berklee Music student focused on playing Hindustani Music besides Western . He has toured India for a festival with the entire Berklee ensemble of Musicians. The stringed instrument is a Middle Eastern Oud ( many Middle Eastern and Persian/Indian and Chinese instruments are like Western guitar/ spanish guitar typed ) that is played by a terrific guy! There are Eastern Europe instruments that have commonality with Greek stringed instruments, Turkish, Middle Eastern and Persian /Indian and Far East stringed instruments. You should check out Arabic, Turkish, Egyptian and Greek Music to see the way they use the stringed instruments

There are 2 major classical music and singing in India. 1. Hindustani (it is from the northern part of India) 2. Carnatic (It is from southern part of India) Both needs years of training and generally trained singers in India have their classes from very young age, like 3.5 years or 4 years. Both has different kind of musical instruments and techniques in singing. The vibrando which people refer in western singing is also a part of the score sheets in Indian classical singing. It also needs to be on point every single time.
The stringed instrument is OUD - a middle eastern 12 string instrument belonging to the Lute family if one may say so, similar to Greek bouzaki which is played in greek musicals and performances. There stringed instruments are older than the western stringed instruments have been used several centuries before the West civilizations began. Morocco and North America have similar stringed instruments like the OUD
Your reaction is great and so is your advice. If you want to listen to the same drums then check out, Zakir Hussain: running horse. He is a legend and has been in the game for awhile. Keep it up, you guys are great ❤✌🏽.
Listen to the original sung by Lata Mangeshkarji. She's the original playback singer from India and has a repertoire of 10 of thousands of songs. All other female playback singers just follow her. Lataji and Asha Bhonsle her sister are the pioneers as far as playback singing in Hindi movies goes. Both are unique and different in their styles but both are equally amazing. Also search for male play back singers like Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Talat Mehmood etc and all these singers recorded with live bands. No auto-tune etc during those times. Rehearse and record was what they did. You can find gems of songs on various channels.
