Aren't the musical features essential to the movie? Maddy mentions that every episode of the Pink Opaque includes two musical acts. The movie is a giant Pink Opaque episode...

Just saw it today. Definitely interpreted the movie as a Queer wake-up call to take the risk to embrace oneself, along with those we're lucky to call chosen family. But as the saying goes, which was etched in chalk in one scene, "there is still time"

100%, but it works really well even without that arc

the reason you felt that years are suddenly gone watching the transitions is because the parts of the film represent TV show seasons in the "real world", which was actuality the show or fake reality representation in episodic format. Notice how the first season's main character was recast for the second and third seasons. The real world was actually the TV show after all.

I really hope this film will reach a larger audience, especially among music lovers. This soundtrack lineup is literally insane and I’m so excited to see the movie just based on that! Alex G’s soundtrack for World Fair already gave it some steam so this with SO MANY amazing artists making an appearance + exclusive songs is gonna propel it fs.

World's Fair and now this. I'm pretty sure the director is into ASMR big time. One of us! One of us!

thanks for the review, I'm on the edge of my seat with excitement for this
re. the 5 oclock shadow thing: a lot of transphobes try to "clock" us by looking for a 5 o clock shadow, there's that idea that we're men trying to "deceive" people, and even that we're gross adults pretending to be pretty teens
could this be a feature, not a bug?

I really don’t think it’s a feature, but that’s definitely an interesting thought!

I’m excited for more 90s and early 00s nostalgia stuff.

Great recap! How’s Week 1 been in terms of securing tickets to screenings you’re REALLY looking to see?
Not sure if you’re doing Passes, Individual Tickets (when available) or Waitlisting it; but I’ve heard quite a bit of noise about how busy/oversold all the big screenings have been. Curious if there’s any merit to that noise since I’ll be there next week Wed-Sun (wk 2).

It’s been mostly ok! There are a couple tough tickets but that’s one of the reasons we like to stay for the full 10 days and make sure we catch it all.
As far as oversold screenings, there have been a few but that doesn’t tend to be an issue in the back half because there’s a lot fewer festival attendees. You shouldn’t worry.

Its a shame that most of these indie festival films will go unnoticed by audiences outside of the festival circuit and likely never be seen or heard of again to the point of obscurity. Even the few that land distribution.

We’re going in the right direction though. Or at least a24 is.
