Something I feel is worth thinking about is that when Owen refuses Maddy's olive branch, they have also refused themself the right to fantasize. I think there's another meaning to the rewatch of the TV show, that being that Owen is not allowing themself to escape their reality anymore, not allowing themself to live as Isabelle in the screen. Now it's just a silly show they used to watch. It's bad, it's shameful, and it is no longer allowed to mean anything.
In a way, the movie also very much wants its audience to continue fantasizing, to keep allowing itself to be childish.

Yea, but her Olive Branch included burying him alive, so---.

@@milascave2 Burying your false self to unbury your real self is something that a lot of trans people relate to metaphorically.
That's what the scene is supposed to represent: how scary it is to shed the masc the "you" that you created to avoid suffering.

It sure seems.like a horror movie to me. And one of the scarier ones.
Also, they finely form a close friendship.
Owen does not have a stepfather. He is mixed race, with a black mother and a white father.
But yes, I. missed the trans stuff, too.
