I paid off 39K, but I owe a ton of money. I will take this as a win as I am not deeper in debt
That is a win! You went the right direction!
Something that helped our grocery budget was separating our cart into "real food" and "snacks and beverages". Anything that's necessary food for an actual meal comes out of our grocery budget, and anything "snacks and beverages" comes out of our junk food budget. When we first separated it out, it was absolutely shocking how much of the inflation we were seeing in our grocery budget was from the snacks (including cereal), and beverages. When we faced how much we were really spending on snacks and beverages, we changed our patterns and significantly reduced our grocery spending. Good luck in 2024!
We did this slightly by giving my husband his own increased personal money. So basically all his snacks and beverages are bought with that and it’s helped me mentally a ton. But even just the basics increased a lot this year. I’d be so annoyed adding stuff to my cart knowing it cost less the week before😂
I do like your idea of real food/snacks and beverages! I’m a water and coffee only girl so it’s been eye opening to see how that stuff adds up!
Also we stopped buying cereal and chips. Just entirely unless it’s a $2 store brand. Because $6-$7 for those boxes and bags is insane!
The fact that you bring in a full time income on RUclips is simply amazing. Doing that AND spending that time with your kids is even more impressive! I know you will increase your income overtime. Your channel is amazing and gives all of us with tiny channels sometime to aspire towards. 😊
Thank you!! I do have multiple channels which helps. This channel definitely isn’t enough to live on but everything I do together sure is! It can take a while to build up but depending on how much you need it is definitely possible.
@@PenniesNotPerfection so cool! I didn’t know you had other channels as well! Do you have them linked somewhere? 😬
Here is one of them: www.youtube.com/@CreateWithPennies
Our income dropped by 50% in 2023. Hubby retired from wrenching and drives part time. I’m in nursing school full time so my hours decreased too. Our biggest win was cash flowing nursing school.
This year we have to seriously tighten the belt. No eating out. No impulse buying. I seriously don’t need anything and now that hubby is retired he can cook. I’m also determined to pay my car down by 50% and fully find hubbys Roth IRA. I know we can do it if I work extra during the summer and school breaks. Ultimate goal is to graduate nursing 2025 with ZERO debt.
Great video Thank you for sharing so we know we aren’t alone. I definitely think you’ll increase your income you have the right mindset to do so. We didn’t set 2023 goals we just kind of talked about them so we didn’t accomplish them, but 2024 is a different story we are set to save $10,000 & max my ROTH. I also don’t like to feeling of not having enough of a cushion.😊❤😊
We have similar goals and will crush 2024!
We are feeling the pinch this past year as well. I am hoping that this year will help grow that gap again between income and expenses as like you said it is so narrow right now.
Yesss let's grow the gap! That's definitely why I started this year with a no spend.
Thanks for sharing Mary. I like your recap it's interesting to listen to your thoughts reflecting back and adjusting forward. 👍 An important part is celebrating that we've paid our bills 😂 I have covered the expenses of living, not gone into debt, saved for the future and set aside money for replacements/extras. Look forward to seeing how you progress through 2024. May good health be in abundance for you and your family 😊
"I have covered the expenses of living, not gone into debt, saved for the future and set aside money for replacements/extras." It's crazy how underrated this achievement actually is! Like, we are doing amazing!
Thank you Sandra! We could definitely use the wishes for good health! 😂
4:33 Wow... I just realized, hiring what you are saying, why I like to save money - because I don't like feeling not having money and being poor.
It’s a tough feeling and even worse when you know you can avoid it.
omg kids and food. i have a toddler and i love that he loves fresh fruits and veggies but the amount i spend on blueberries lol 😂
I feel like half our food budget is fruit for these kids lol. It’s hard to say no to that cause yesssss please eat that over junk food!
We felt a major pinch in 2023 as well but in November 2022 we upgraded houses with increased mortgage and expenses but it was time with 6 kids. Just making that shift at the same time as inflation hit hard was tough!
That is so tough! Do you still love the house despite the increase?
@@PenniesNotPerfection yes and being in a safer neighborhood with lots of kids. We knew it wild be a sacrifice but worth it to see our kids grow up on their bikes with their friends. 💕
Makes sense! That’s a reason we want to move. I basically can’t let me kids out alone where I live at all, but my family and friends in the suburbs can so its a big reason we probably will move too.
Lifestyle inflation is real girl! It’s tricky to not spend money.
We recently spent money on bicycles & helmets (a big outlay); so now we cycle to the park or down to the river or through the countryside and we ALWAYS bring a picnic. We invite our friends along (for the bike ride or picnic or both) & most now due to inflation tend to join. We save money, eat healthy & have some good old fashioned catch up time with friends aswell. No gym membership required either ; Totally ‘retro’ & supercool. Something to think about when thinking about trying to make more money. 🥰
I love that! I’m wishing warm weather returns here soon. Bikes rides with the kids and friends sounds super fun!
We also felt inflation with our expenses, too. We will focus on a low-spend year as much as possible. Also, You may already do these? But have you thought about courses on finance to help others which could sell long-term? Just a thought?
I definitely didn’t do a low spend last year, but I am doing a no spend this month to reset my spending!
I’ve thought about courses but probably will go a different direction. I’ve seen how much work people put in to sell courses and I don’t think I have the personality for webinars and all that. I do have a few new products planned that are higher priced with way more substance that will be launching soon so that will help!

I made more but I spent more. Boo!
That definitely happens!
Do yourself a favor and dont fall into the trap of feeding your kids what they want instead of what you are making for dinner, and having to start cooking two meals every day. THATs what get expensive and honestly, unhealthy. They get used to a limited diet of eating mac & cheese and chicken nuggets and then grazing the entire day on junk and snacks. Feed them 3 good meals a day, protein heavy and two healthy snacks of fruit or veggies and call it a day. If you dont, when they are just a bit older they will eat you out of house and home and not eat as much of the healthy dinner food you prepare. And your kids SHOULD be your priority over youtube videos. Good on you! Be careful and mindful of your audience and loyal followers and to not sell your soul to make more money; because you wont. You will lose your following if you put in too many sponsors, advertising and just making nothing content videos just to get views. And you CAN have a 30 year career on youtube. You just have to evolve with your channel as you and your family ages and your priorities change through life.
Maybe I should have said I don’t want to do 30 years on RUclips? I think probably something still related to RUclips like managing channels or affiliate deals might be what I would like doing in 20 years but not sure I want to be on camera that long. Hopefully that makes more sense!
Sucks that you feel like you have to make youtube videos your top priority over your family.
lol this is such a strange comment because RUclips videos are my job. Does it suck I feel like I need to work a full time job vs a part time job? Because that’s the reality for most women these days. We can’t live on just my husbands income and I also like to create too.
