I started benching at 62 years. I’m now 69, 5’8, 205 lbs at 30% body fat. I’ve had leukemia for two years now. I just competed in a local bench press competition and lifted 225, 235, and 245 strict pause bench. My illness is not stopping me from lifting !

good lift. I have the (one of the ) Illinois state records. I am also ranked 5th in the World in the 125kg class 60-64 and I think 17th in the 110kg class

I am almost 70, 175 pounds and bench 235 on a good day ... have no idea where that puts me as I am just a recreational lifter.
There is a site I use to determine where I stand along side my peers for squat bench and deadlift. It's a powerlifting calculator and based on the info you gave me it shows that you would be in the top 2% for your age and weight with a # 235 bench press.

Congrats. I'm 9 years older than you and bench pressing again. I can do around what you do (on a good day!), but I weigh about 20 pounds more or so. And I don't compete so nothing I do is official anywhere. Year in and year out, it doesn't get any easier as you get older, as you probably know. How do you maintain your body weight (not getting heavier)? I'd like to have your body weight, but to get there I'd have to sacrifice a lot of strength, I think. Any secrets? Again, congratulations.
Thank you kindly for the response and Merry Christmas. Last year I was weighing about 185 and struggling to get under 183 to get in the lower weight class for competition. I made a decision not to stress out about my weight or what class I would enter so I decided not to worry about it. A few years ago I got down to 167 when I used a free app on my phone called my net diary. You put your current weight and your goal weight in it and how soon you want to reach your target weight. Then it will give you a daily calorie budget. Good luck as you continue to train and may you stay healthy.
