I have an Asus ROG from a similar time period and almost similar design, its biggest issue was heat as the GPU got really hot and would glitch out after a while, had to modify it for better airflow as the grill on the bottom was fake (on yours its what looks like the wheel rim), so it drew air from tiny vents over the bottom. so i cut out the fake grill and pit some wire mesh in its place and it helped (although still over heats even after cleaning an new thermal paste but not as bad or as fast as before)
I had the Asus G1 at the time and remember this one being released and wanting it so bad! 🤣 I never got it, but almost upgraded to the G1S, but in the end, the G1 served me well for quite a while. Hey there! One thing I'd like to recommend when you're buying a "refurbished" used or second hand device is to shine a UV light on it before touching it, there may be mysterious bodily fluids all over the pre loved device so you do know when to use gloves or not :D
Glad to see you're installing as many drivers as you can! I'm the kinda guy who gets outraged when a driver is missing 😂even for a PCI bridge Out of thermal paste only now since your first video mentioning Arctic MX 4? If a single syringe lasted you that long you need to fix more computers! I would try MX 6 next.
Oh my lord LOL. I forgot these existed! I had a friend back in 07 I called Mister Money Bags (in jest), he was well off but a damn cool person. He had one of these brand spankin new out of the box. This was a hot piece of tech in 2007. Sitting with it a couple times in my lap playing games when he was over, wow this was the SHIZZZZ
If you want the best paste on the market, I strongly recommend Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. It's a German paste that leads other pastes like Arctic MX-4 and Noctua NT-H2 by a few degrees in most instances.
Nice laptop, now that is a premium laptop from the days of old! As you state, the Core 2 Duo and DDR2 RAM will be quite limiting, and I may have opted to go for either Windows XP or Windows 7 as Vista was rather unloved. Still, it had a HD DVD drive (!), which is more than what can be said for any modern laptop or desktop. Also, as far as thermal paste goes, I still recommend the Arctic MX-4, I grabbed a rather large 20g tube of it which will do the job quite nicely. For high performance stuff, such as my HP OMEN laptop and my custom desktop PC, I use Arctic MX-6, whereas for less important stuff (such as older laptops, and laptops less critical to temperatures) I use Arctic MX-2. Though ultimately, so long as you don't use the cheapest Chinese paste, it should be fine.
it depends where you live - i use often SilentiumPC Pactum PT-1, mediocre compound, but generally always better than old, dried. and it is extremely cheap, around 4-5 eur for 4g tube
@@tennickjestzajety69 Given that you can get a 20g tube of MX-4 for about £13 it makes no sense for me to use the cheapest paste. Though as you say, any paste is better than horrid, old, dried out paste that isn't doing its job at all.
Instead of Arctic, can use liquid metal if you know how to apply it. Maybe best component for improvement will be usable. But that's a theory For original Farcry, 2 possibilities : Upgrade to Patch version 1.40 if not done or there is a EXE compatible and compile for 64bit systems. Can give it a try, still work for Windows 11 in my case. Great video as always 😀

In 2007 I was at university studying philosophy. Now I am at school again but studying to become an HVAC engineer since my philosophy studies have helped nothing when it comes to finding jobs. Had I done that back then I might have been able to afford a Lamborghini by now😂 crazy to think it was 16 years ago. I remember the Ferrari laptops but I don’t think I ever saw these Lamborghini ones.
TBH I don't like the aesthetics of laptops from the 2000s (except from Apple), but these super car branded laptops are great because of their premium materials and designs that evoque the cars of the manufacturer, and definitely not because they run on vista, I remember LGR reviewing a Ferrari Acer laptop that had a real carbon fiber top as well, they're some lookers to be sure.
Clint did an entire video covering this laptop. He even mentioned how the wheel on the "fan grill" isn't the wheel from the car the laptop launched alomgside with (the Lamborgini Superleggera) but rather from the base model version of the Lamborgini Gallardo, but hey, they tried. And I did put fan grill in quotes because it isn't a real fan grill, it's more of a fan cover. Whoop.

Wakefield thermal compound. You can get it in a tub very cheap. It comes in a very large amount for commercial applications. And can be had for a 20$ or so.
Genuinely recommend Thermalright TFX paste due to its viscosity and cheap price when used on gaming laptops. That thermal paste barely experiences pumpout with mobile chipset coolers and their mounting pressures used.
That kind of machine would be perfect for retro gaming, because it's got a beefier gfx card than most laptops. I'd take an old NVIDIA over an AMD or Intel HD integrated setup any day. I also don't game much, and I'll bet that a lightweight version of Linux and things like LibreOffice would run just fine. If that machine can handle Vista, it can handle MATE or Cinnamon.
I wish more ordinary tech had nods to aesthetics like texture and feel. Leather is soooo much nicer to touch and use daily than cold grey metal or plastic. Like why do mice have to be plastic? Can’t we do wood or leather?
I tried to use Arctic MX4 thermal paste on the laptops, and it didnt work well for me. after a week or so it was getting thin under a small silicone chip and temperatures was very high. The same paste works well for a desktop CPU with a heat spreader. So for laptops I much prefer Thermal Grizzly. Even their not expensive paste works well.
1. Thermalgrizzly Cryonaut (pricey but my fav) 2. Arctic mx-6 (nearly as good... like... almost the same but cheaper) 3. Liquid metal (real step up but messy, pricey and potentionally dangerous)
