Living in West Texas I carry what I call semi open carry. A Bianchi model 75 for my Officers 1911. It holds the pistol high and tight. When I say Semi Open I mean that I can leave my shirt tail over it , but if it’s seen , I really don’t care because it’s mostly legal and for the most part socially acceptable in Texas .

My 1911’s, only one at a time, ride in a Milt Sparks BN55 holster.

For more years than I can remember I wore a 3", 5-shot .44 Spcl every day all day. I put it on with my pants in the morning and took it off with my pants when I went to bed. I had been on a hunting/camping trip for several days up in Illinois and when I got back home a shower was the first thing on my mind . I took a shower and slipped on a light pair of slicks and went out to the mailbox to get the mail and paper. Suddenly I was loudly and ferociously attacked by a neighbor's pit bull. It was a total surprise as she charged across the street with what sounded to like the roar of a lion. I grabbed for my .44 that was always there and it wasn't there! I ran as hard as I could for the front door, barely got inside and the pit bull slammed into the door. I narrowly escaped. My first inclination was to get my .44 and go back out and finish the fight. But after thinking about what would be the best thing to do I called 911 and let the city police come out and earn their pay. I avoided any conflict with a good neighbor whose kid had let his mother's dog out of the enclosure in the back yard where she had pups. No reckless endangerment citation. No lawsuits, warranted or not. And peace and tranquility was restored to the neighborhood where neighbors for one end of the street to the other had come out to look. And I put my .44 back on my belt for contingencies but I had bad dreams over that close call for a long time. Over the years I wore the .44 on the same place on my hip so long I developed a fatty tumor there and had to slide it a little farther back to 4 o'clock. A few years ago I found a 4" S&W model 646 in .40 S&W with a good holster and I started wearing it cross draw. Now at almost 83 years I'm wearing a Sig P365 XL cross draw in a kydex and I don't even feel like I'm armed. I like a gun with some weight to it that I have confidence in that I know will do its part when I do mine.

Cross Breed holsters are great for CCW. They are comfortable, adjustable and allow your shirt tucked in. Use one for Glock 36 and Sig P365.

Nice variety here. I carry/wear a variety of guns in a variety of holster styles. I do have a couple of chest rigs, one is the El Paso Saddlery Doc Holliday rig for my Ruger Single Seven. The other is a Diamond D chest rig for my S&W .460 ES. The Diamond D is incredibly comfortable, my only complaint is that I don’t love the color. I also have several belt holsters from Simply Rugged for several models of revolvers, as well as my Coonan Classic. For pocket carry I like the Remora sticky holsters. I agree entirely that what works for one person won’t always work for someone else.

Good video. The holster you use is almost as important as the pistol in it.
This segment reminded me of the first holster I ever bought. I was around 10 years old and for my birthday I got Marksman 177 cal Repeater.
It looked very much like a Army 45 1911. Near my Grandparents apartment in the city was a big Army surplus Store. I went in and bought a Tanker shoulder holster for Around $2.00. It was brand new in the military package. Worked perfectly and I carried that BB gun all over. I think they still make that pistol.

Yes, the holster is definitely as important as the gun, it's a big part of your system!

I make my own kydex holsters. I primarily carry a 1911 appendix. For revolvers I prefer leather whether it be outside or inside the waistband.

Living in Cody Wy, I carried the most one of my Linebaugh’s in a Von Ringler shoulder holster. I’m surprised no mention of Von. Von and John were great long time friends. And makes some of the best rigs I have ever used. And the best quality leather.

once again , no carrying or wearing in Canada. But I love leather and have accumulated a few holsters over the years. Elpaso saddlery 1917 flap holster for my S&W 1917 , lined 1911 flap and a texas jock strap for the ruger .44 spl. blackhawk.also have a couple of original george lawrence holsters and an enger-kress 1942 tanker. Thanks for another informative campfire talk.

The movie thing I hate is when they stick a gun, no holster in the back of there pants, then run. My 1911 would be down my pants or on the ground so fast.
I just bought a Blackhawk SERPA hip carry with the paddle release for my Beretta 92. One of the most comfortable holsters I’ve ever owned. I would have never guessed that over leather.

I love the Camp Fire series! Oddly enough my favorite holster for when I'm hunting is an old Davis Leather thumb snap duty holster for a 4" S&W N frame. It doesn't interfere with my pack or my binoculars like a chest holster might. Most of the time I carry a model 29-2 in it, but I've also carried a model 28-2 in it, as well as my 4" .45 Colt Redhawk.
For concealed carry I've been going more towards holsters with better retention features lately. I've read too many stories of stupid people trying to grab guns that they happen to see, whether open carried, or if a concealed carry gun is printing through clothing. Most of those have been Safariland ALS holsters. I've tried the Blackhawk Serpa CQC, but I'm one of those folks who just can't get past the fact that you have to use your trigger finger to operate the release mechanism. No thanks.
I've used and greatly enjoyed holsters from El Paso Saddlery, High Noon Holsters, and Comp-tac. A good quality leather holster is a serious work of art, as well as a functional piece.
Thanks again, and keep the great videos coming!

My 1899 Smith and Wesson 4th Change Model came with a Lawrence full flap holster. Every pre-teen should have a 38 Smith and Wesson Revolver. My name is Rick and I have not boughten a holster this week. Leather is lovely, nylon is not bad, kydex is the 😈 debil. I believe in comfortable carry, if I take my coat off and you then see the gun, O well.

The real question is, how big is the container for holsters that didn't work out? 😅 I've read about Tom Threepersons. I'd look forward to learning about him.

Nice leather! Completely agree, wear it, dont carry it. I have found with the 1911 I like a flap over it when in the woods or working, like cutting wood. Reason being the method of cocked and locked collects alot of debris in the action.

Great video! I own a Roy Baker holster for my Ruger sec six. Very comfortable as the cylinder is above the belt line. Wish I had one for a few more guns. As for ideas, how about each person demonstrate their draw from concealed carry? The loser wears a grass skirt and has to hulu dance between courses in the next stage. Which is shooting their concealed carry gun.
