I like him, a lot even. But I just feel he could have been a bit more grimdark/body horror. Like have his eyes slaved to his scope via wires into the sockets and covering his whole face, or have one arm replaced entirely by a stabiliser etc.
This is the mini that conviced me that admech is MY army. I've only recently started "playing" 40k (after a 25 yr break, as I DID play around a little with it as a kid), and I've had a blast discovering all the factions and lore. I though I would go with Votann, and I sort of have. I've got about 2000pts of unpainted Votann that I'm eager to start painting during christmas. When this mini was announced I really took notice of admech and how "fun" and unique their minis are. Many factions in 40k are kind of boring. Just a bunch of similar looking minis with similar looking weapons all posing similarly. They are nowhere NEAR as original and evocative as the Sigmar-minis. Except for admech. Admech is the only faction in 40k, as far as I can tell, where the sculptors are able to go a little crazy and come up with some original and creative things, and I absolutely LOVE it! :)
I must admit this model is growing on me, especially seeing your take on him. I'd love to see your take on Imotekh next, looking forward to picking mine up Saturday.
I like the absurdity of the design, but I can understand why some people would feel it doesn't fit the themes of AdMech except by being body horror-adjacent. I think you'd get a much more body horror vibe by having functional knees on this guy (especially if you go with a digitigrade design). That would also be consistent with some of their walkers. But I think a bigger issue at the moment is that the model is really, really bad on tabletop. If you kit it out as anti-infantry and it's left alone to shoot a squad of Intercessors every round, you'll kill, on average, one marine every other round. A 60-ish point "anti-infantry" unit sniping 34-ish points of Intercessors off the board over the course of an entire game is frankly hilarious to me. They need to buff this guy or he needs to cost like 20 points (which is a whole other set of feels-bad, since the guy costs $38 MSRP). I totally want to paint this absolute madlad of a model though. And he's got mad kitbash potential.
I like the steam punky, bio mech and body horror mashup that they go with for their admech range and in the right context I think this mini is cool. That being said I don’t really like it without converting. If he were in a diorama where you can see he needs the stilts due to toxic sludge or a toxic fog where he is prowling a battle field dead checking the remains of some kind of horrible city or planet killing weapon that has been unleashed on their enemies that’s pretty cool. On a battle field where everyone is alive with full use of their senses and weapons and a guy on stilts is the first one I’m gonna shoot….. personally 🤷♂. And then my biggest problem with it is the silhouette caused by that exhaust that’s just bizarre I’d shorten the tube or loose it entirely up at the base of his back if it were me. But excellent video Andy and great job painting it as always.
Reckon you'd be best to lose the dangling pipe thing rather than shorten it. I think you would run the risk of creating a silhouette of it being a penis otherwise. If I get one that's what I'd do anyway. I actually tend to cut off things like that anyway on my Ad Mech just to reduce painting. Got the idea from Peachy.
I know that one of the necron models that you have there is Orikan the Diviner. He's a character from the novel The Infinite and the divine. I don't know if anyone else is going to be keen on seeing that but it would be lovely to see him being painted up next if you don't mind.😊
Aside from him looking ridiculous (not necessarily a bad thing for AdMech), this model caught a lot of flak due to the poor reception of our Index and Codex. It probably wouldn't have been so bad if this model was released alongside a few other models or full squads, or if the Codex had been a complete and total re-write of our rules, but just giving us this and nothing else makes everyone a sad panda. The bad rules and absurd points cost for tallboi is just the nails in the coffin. There is legitimately no point in running this model when a Vindicare fulfills all of the same roles with better rules for only a minor points increase. Even if the Vindicare wasn't available, the same guns this guy can be kitted out with can be run on the Sydonian Dragoons or Skitarii, so he doubly serves no relevant or useful purpose whatsoever.
My friend has been trying to get me into warhammer for a really long time. Last week he said hed buy me a kit and so i decided on the adeptus mechanicus legion because i like how steampunk-y they look and he said i could paint them like necrons 👍 I know absolutely nothing about warhammer, i cant even imagine how youd play it, so from a completely un-biased perspective i can say that this little sniper dude is great :)
Aw cheers man! I hope you enjoy any dip into Warhammer that you take and always paint and play whatever appeals to you most 😊 let me know if you have any questions!
@@MediocreHobbies Thanks dude! Here's a question, can you use soft pastels and Mister Super Clear flat sealant on them? Since I don't have an airbrush I thought that could work instead
Watching you paint him just now, but I think its the execution rather than the idea. It's literally a pair of stilts. Ad Mech could surely build something that would bend in the middle like a knee, or a dog leg. Something like a larger set of Rust Stalker legs I think would have been better received. And his weapon hits like a wet fish. That thing needed to be a character assassin model. You did a great job on this one.
Mechanical killer storks? That's a thumbs up from me! Suggestion to GW - Skitari Spiders (or insects, let's not get too hung up on the leg count) - centaur like models with a Skitari ranger head / torso and multiple mechanical spider / insect legs.....
Its very... unique. I'd like to paint it. It reminds me of the AT AT in starwars - in a world of antigrav and high tech, it just doesn't need to exist in that particular form. I could imagine it in a Necromunda gang, but not admech...
As I understand it the sniperstilts guy is bloody awful in game so the people complaining about his looks won't run one anyway lol. Great job Andy, the green on the visor looks fantastic.
Great video! I honestly felt that the original AdMech range was kind of bland, but with models like this it is starting to get the weirdness that I expected, so I love the model!
People are crapping in thier own hand and tossing it at this model. The criticisms would be fine if they were more grounded in truth. He has knees. He can shoot without falling over. His legs obviously extend and compress so he can get into position. People just imagine hes tentpoled into the ground and duct taped to his stilts
I rly like the upper half, I don't completely hate the stilts. The mini does look much better seeing someone handle it n turn it about, also nice paint job 🙂 👍. Looking at the mini, it does seem like a very easy conversion if someone rly wanted to remove the stilts and maybe use some Skitarii vanguard lower legs. Maybe get two and have one of each, stilts and normal legs. Small side note, is a Mordian Iron Guard on the list of vids to make? As a big Mordian fan it's been the one IV been rly waiting on in the guard regiments videos. 🙂
yeah im thinking on adding 2 to my mechanicum force so i can have 1 of each variant.....for now im neutral opinion on him until i get my hands on one of my own and work with it, it does look cool though its different in an eccentric mechanicus kinda way
I absolutely love this goofy goober, Admech in and of itself is a ridiculous army to begin with and the stilt boy fits within it... ...Now that being said $40 for a probably 65 point model is really representative of the "Admech Tax" that the range is infamous for. Honestly I'm probably just gonna kitbash the transuranic arquebus unit from the standard troops and we'll see how that goes.
The AdMech tax is arguably worse than it looks. He kills one Intercessor every other round, so he negates 34 points worth of enemy units when built as an anti-infantry specialist. At 60 points, that's a completely insane investment and he'll never be used when you could get much more utility out of some more Sicarians or, if you can carve off a couple more points, a Dunerider. Unless they buff his offensive capability or something, he really shouldn't cost more than like 20 points to field, which would, hilariously, make him cost half what a unit of Gretchin cost. Realistically they'll have to buff his damage output or something, of course.
Im firmly in the this model is awful camp. Its utterly ridiculously unbalanced unsteady....if they wanted stilts then i think a tripod basis would have been better. Its frustrating for me because as a massive mechanicus fan, they had so mamy alternatives that they could have used from the lore....the peltasts, secutarii, the various forgeworld pieces combat servitors and othr mainstream sci fi. I understand the whole artificial legs lore, which the standard skitarii embody withtheir legs but this....no. not for me. I think gw have really dropped the ball with mechanicus. They haven't taken advantage of the wealth of lore, and they arw still very much a fringe army....tis a pity.
@@MediocreHobbies They could have brought the excellent designs from Forge World, but instead, they choose to use these foolish models to mock us. It's really frustrating.
This feels like a great representation of Admech it's a bit goofy but fits the theme so well, but the name it's is a mouthful, I prefer Skitallri or Stiltari 😂 Great video as always Andy can't wait for the Necrons
Why the dumb walker? Give more Kataphron style stuff. There is so much Admech that isn't just dude shaped but different that and yet they can't think of anything better to do other than putting a dude on stilts. Heck cut him in half and make him hover. There is so much that is wrong with this. Also, a sniper is supposed to be stealthy, all the stilts sat is "I am here to shoot your characters, don't mind me"
They probably never would have done it nowadays but with the whole faction, with maybe 1-2 exceptions, I never found the vibe. It's too goofy and not enough body(horror) weirdness for me. I love the admech faction who it's described in books and all. but that absolutely does not tranfer in the minis. This one especially. All subjective of course.
I think the model looks funny BUT it is also way too busy so I find it difficult to actually know what to look at or what part is supposed to be what. For me it's the classic case of too much detail.
@@MediocreHobbies you're probably right, and that's probably why I've never really liked the mechanicum models, too much visual stimuli on such a tiny surface. Well, except the Skitarii rifles, they look great and are nice for kitbashing, and the Skitarii Rangers in general since the red cape covers a lot of the details :)
I actually just bought the AdMech combat patrol and a couple of others. I will not be buying this godawful monstrosity though. Because the best place for a sniper is waving around 20 feet in the air. NOT!

I just picked up the mini today as a surprise for a friend who wants to start a Adeptus Mechanicus army.
Aw that’s a really cool thing to do, nice one!
Commander: Go find a sniper nest.
Admech sniper dude: "I am the sniper nest".
Hahahah yes
I love how silly it is
Hahaha me too
I actually would love to use this guy as a diorama with a post apocalyptic landscape, where he’s stalking through toxic tar pit area
Ohhhh please make that happen, that sounds so cool
Probably would have benefited from a more dynamic pose with the feet. Aside from that it’s a good design.
Yeah that’s a fair point alright!
I like him, a lot even. But I just feel he could have been a bit more grimdark/body horror. Like have his eyes slaved to his scope via wires into the sockets and covering his whole face, or have one arm replaced entirely by a stabiliser etc.
That’s fair.
It needs a third leg for sniper platform stability.
Haha maybe that would help
I think it's peak Admech. Is it ridiculous? Absolutely. Does it fit their aesthetic and lore? Absolutely. 😂
Hahaha completely agree
It single handedly became one of my favorite models the moment I saw it
Wise words
I love it! It's so wierd and over the top, it looks loke straight out of a John Blanche sketch.
That’s a solid point
