    Internet LORE
Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness came out in 2005, the game was made to be a sequel to Pokemon Colosseum. As time went on, people speculated if there would be a sequel to XD but, to this day as of 2021 there is no sequel to Gale of Darkness. In the recent Pokemon 25th anniversary stream, they didn't even note of Pokemon Colo/XD's existance and prices have spiked on Ebay for the original copies of this game. Join as we take a retrospective look at the game and the challenge that is present in its story mode as we analyze the bosses in this game as well.

None of those games deserve to be riped of ANY dignity they have and get a remake developed in less than 2 years. Unless they give the game to the original company and they give them actual time. To make a quality game. Of pokemon. Or we can just... use dolphin.

One thing that i think is sooo much better than the modern pokemon games in these spinoffs is how good the pokemon animations are. All their idle animations have so much character and when they get hit the actually recoil! It adds so much to the game imo

It's funny how these big gaming critics criticized the games for "rehashing old ideas" yet will literally give every main series game an extremely high score despite the fact they've been using the same formula for decades. Like how are you going to complain about reusing old formulas, but also complain that they're not enough like the main series games?

That’s exactly why I loved the game. When I played XD I thought man I wonder how the next future mainline console Pokémon will be like only to find out game freak just butchered it with SW/SH. I wish game freak would take the series in this direction back when these games had polish and detail.

Let's not forget the biggest fix of all: we no longer need to go to a PC just to SAVE THE GAME. I love Colosseum, but the save feature was extremely annoying and infuriating. I personally love Colosseum's darker theme more, and the best Miror B theme, but XD does fix all of the issues that Colosseum had to make the game mechanics be both more playable and enjoyable (except for the removal of The Under, you shall be missed).
And I want sequels for these games as much as the next guy. Yes the dream might never become a reality. But at the same time, they made a Pokemon Snap sequel last year, about 20 years after the original game, so I guess almost anything is possible.

I'm glad someone else is giving XD the treatment it deserves. Gen 3 was my first major foray into the world of Pokemon, with this and Emerald being my first ever games. I even had a special Gamecube that had art of Shadow Lugia and the Legendary Birds!
Sure, the wild Pokemon selection could've been more diverse, and the Shadow Pokemon selection, while improved from Colosseum, has a few duds meant solely for capture and purification and, well, not much else. But other than that, the game was pretty good from what I remember.
The character designs are unique for the people, I love the soundtrack with a burning passion, and the extra features in the game are nicely integrated.
    My choice team was:
    1. Jolteon
    2. Claydol
    3. Sharpedo
    4. Breloom
    5. Zangoose
    6. Flygon
That last one is a pain to get by level up, but hey, that's what Mt. Battle is for.

you know, Flareon in this game is pretty good because you can buy Fire Blast early giving you heads up with high base power moves compared to the other Eeveelution. Yes, you can get Thunder too for Jolteon but Fire Blast actually hits while Thunder needs rain to work. Also Tutor moves are more in favor to Flareon with moves like Double Edge complementing its attack stat and Shadow Ball being physical.
I think in that game Umbreon might be the worst considering Dark is Special and thats one of its worst stats.

Actually think this game can be played the least grindiest of all Pokemon games. If you make sure to keep on catching shadow mons, like you're supposed to, you can swap out team members with the new ones you get as you go and get higher level ones. Shadow pokemon resist shadow moves but you got the upper hand of learning original moves as you go that can be used to hit other shadow mons for good damage while they can't do much to yours since shadow resist shadow. I think this is the optimal way to play. I've played up to the final boss with a main team with little to no switching mons out and just sticking to the ones I wanted to use and leveling up, but catching shadow mons are made so much harder since shadow moves do super effective damage to my mons. Only get so many chances to catch shadow mons before being knocked out.

It really is sad how despite these games often being considered as one of the most underrated and potentially best games in the franchise, Nintendo/GameFreak pretend like they don't exist. They're never mentioned in any anniversary videos, referenced in any of the games, etc. Hell, I think it's even more insulting that they actually included Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon GO, yet pretend like it's some completely new and fresh idea that has never been done before. It's treated as if it only exists within the Pokémon GO universe, and there's zero mention of the Orre region or Cipher. It's such a huge slap in the face to Genius Sonority. Not only are their games completely ignored, but now GameFreak is taking their ideas and retconning them. These games were revolutionary for their time in terms of graphics, story, and fresh ideas, yet so many years later Pokemon still just sticks to the same general formula.
The new Legends Arceus game is probably the first game in 16 years that actually felt like Pokemon finally trying something new for once, yet unlike Genius Sonority, the game lacked a ton of polish and passion. It's hilarious that a small scale company was able to make two incredible games that still to this day, stand the test of time better than some of the more recent main series games made by a multi billion dollar company.

@@ZachHonest Ya same, but besides that there seems to be almost zero evidence to back it up, With people commonly linking that and nothing else as a source I'm not saying the guy is necessarily lying but it is a bit weird that his video is the only one that seems to imply such an idea was thrown around during development.

Genius Sonority is better at making Pokemon games than Gamefreak ever was. The battle CDs are genius, no pun intended. Having to IQ your way through battle situations put in your face. Then there's bingo. Both of which Gamefreak never ever attempted even. Despite these games being meant as more story driven and not a replacement of the gameboy games in any way at all they still seem to have more side content that matters and are fun, than the mainstream games. Animations are still to this day objectively better than ANY of the Gamefreak Pokemon games, sword & shield included. That's a statement not open for discussion. Gamefreak did good with battle frontier in gen 4 where it peaked with online multiplayer co-op option for the battle tower alongside many modes. Ever since this aspect has been watered down and now we just have a basic battle tower without multiplayer.
I think gen 4 took inspiration from this game when moving the physical/special split from typings to moves in that gen. Physical attackers will have shadow rush or some other physical shadow move while special attackers will have shadow wave and such that are set as special attacks. Obviously they couldn't go and change the core mechanics that Gamefreak had set in stone at this point so they went and did what they could with the shadow moves that were their creation just for their games. If they had the freedom to do anything I bet you Genius Sonority would've been the one to make the gen 4 changes first.

That explained the random trainers in Pyrite Town having them. Cipher Peons & Admins only having 1 each was never explained or why it was that so many Cipher Peons never used Shadow Pokemon, however I remember it being suggested that Shadow Pokemon took a long time to make in Colosseum comparable to the length of time it takes to purify them.
