In Spring 2019, the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, led by John Eliot Gardiner, presented a tour of Handel’s dramatic oratorio, Semele. In a concert-staging directed by Thomas Guthrie, a glamorous team of young soloists joined the Monteverdi ensembles to bring the story of Semele to life.
This performance was filmed in London's Alexandra Palace Theatre on 2 May 2019.

Beautiful
This is very soothing, fantabulous ❤❤
Superb. This is Handel. My dear. A real Handel. My compliments
WDR3 radio broadcasted this new production last Sunday 8.05 p.m. As a Handelanian I was very delighted to listen to this marvellous music!
A perfect example of ABdacapo aria form of Handel's day. So elegant!
Amazing. I love this tenor's voice!
Wonderful, gave me goosebumps.
your voice is so wooooooooow!!!! I love it
Wie schön!!!
Beautiful. I love the staging!
美しく素晴らしい歌唱!
So lyrical and beautiful!
💕 Today 18Sept'23 and loving this version, that has some rather strange new notes.
So very emotional,
¡Qué bello!
Just gorgeous!
Me encantooo ❤️❤️❤️
yes excelent singing/playing.
Geweldig!!
Good sung. Tempo improvable.
What was that made up bit in the B section about?
I seem to remember Gardiner has to "bring something" to everything he does...not unknown among conductors haha... ;-)
It helps a lot to have a mic.
What's with his head microphone. Shouldn't these great musicians achieve a good balance?
Me parece que el trabajo vocal del tenor es más apropiado para el Teatro Musical. Lo digo con respeto.
I agree. But alas this production is far more operatic than what an original Handel would have been, so I guess these things are constantly changing.
What do you not like in his voice or singing?
The only thing I don’t like
Is the way he is singing the word “to”
Yeah that’s fair
Do you mean into?
Id have a hard time not laughing at that girl.
isn't the point 'hearing the music" forget watching girls ?
