To everyone about to comment about Super Paper Mario, this video is more of a jab towards Sticker Star and the games after it. Not Super. i like super paper mario, but i think it should have been an in-between game that would later transition to a true paper mario 3. kinda like how kingdom hearts chain of memories was the 2nd kingdom hearts game, but it actually transitions into the REAL kingdom hearts 2.
Jesus man, I have no idea how Sticker was SO BAD it tricked everyone into thinking Super was good. Super was the death of the (hopefully reborn) Paper Mario series
@@OmegaChase1002 That's fine and good, but Super definitely got the "Zelda" treatment of a wave of disapproval from fans at launch, followed by quieter, but often larger, wave of approval after the launch of its successor. The difference is that unlike many Zelda games, Super's disapproval was very warranted IMO (along with all the other sequels) For the record, I think Super is a terrible sequel, but had potential to be a good spinoff. Unfortunately it doesn't move past "potential" for me personally.

Thanks to the remake of TTYD, I have hope again for an actual Paper Mario 3. I think what boggled me the most in retrospect was how a lot of people dunked on Super way before Sticker Star even came out. I liked the game for its story especially, but felt it served perfectly as a transitional game before the next title (and Lord knows that shouldn’t have been Sticker Star).

When this remake got announced, I was hoping that we would get to play a side story featuring Luigi and it would be called Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compas, based on Luigi's adventures during the events of Paper Mario TTYD.
At least they’re aware, hopefully this means they’ll look into more Paper Mario games like this and the fact they said Paper Luigi hopefully we’ll get something if all goes well with the sales for the remake
IIRC, this line was actually in the original on GameCube, but it's been slightly updated for this version so it wouldn't be a dated reference. With that in mind, Nintendo probably didn't put too much thought into his quote

Hot take: I honestly feel like origami king kinda helped ttyds case for a remake since TOK had an investing story and kinda fun combat, sure its a bit different but it still resembels a bit of the original paper mario and I kinda have fun destroying the enemies, It kinda felt like an different version of ttyd in some way
I actually think they've been getting better with TOK, I see it as a huge step in the right direction for Paper Mario along with the TTYD remake. *BUT*, they're not exactly the same games. If they were separate I think they would (kind of) work.

Not gotta lie i think the little toad almost got his paper luigi game, because luigi is playable in super paper mario. However super paper mario isn't a RPG so little toad has to switch up his gameplay style because of this Game is still awesome according to my childhood so i guess hes gotta like it, or not! Who knows!
note that it’s the first paper Mario game I ever played , I wasn’t around when the original gameplay style was implemented, so I didn’t play paper Mario, ttyd, or super paper Mario. I enjoyed Sticker Star as a guilty pleasure. Color Splash was somehow worse gameplay-wise (everything else was a big improvement in terms of story, levels, music, etc...) Origami King was the best one since Super in 2007, lot of fun memories with this one.

Even if we made the argument that they were fine games on their own, the fact would remain that they are a huge departure from what made Paper Mario so beloved in the first place. That's going to cause division in the fandom no matter how ya slice it. Change is not a bad thing, but if they're gonna make the gameplay style so drastically different, it'd make more sense to just make it an entire new series instead of borrowing the name of something that it's clearly not even trying to be. Plus when the new style keeps getting new games and the old style doesn't, that's when we have a "Sonic the Hedgehog" type of situation on our hands. Like Paper Mario, the Sonic series has also refused to go back to a gameplay style everyone liked, and instead kept trying to appease game journalists and casuals with experimental styles that nobody asked for. Isn't Mario supposed to be "better" than Sonic? Not worse, or at least on the same level? If we got a more traditional Paper Mario game in between each game of the "Sticker Star trilogy", then the Sticker Star trilogy would be hated way less. Because in that scenario, the Sticker Star trilogy stuff would be supplementing the traditional style instead of just outright replacing it. And that's a fact.

If we got a more traditional Paper Mario game in between each game of the "Sticker Star trilogy", then the Sticker Star trilogy would be hated way less. Because in that scenario, the Sticker Star trilogy stuff would be supplementing the traditional style instead of just outright replacing it. And that's a fact.

Then an actual DMC5 comes out.
Now people enjoy the reboot, as well as enjoying 5, since the reboot is now supplementing the main series instead of replacing it.
