- What's in your bag? Warning I say generally and essentially alot in this video ;)
When you need a bag to sustain you for 14 days of hard a labor, I reached for the Maxpediton 3-1 duffel, here is my load out. I will have a write up list coming in the future to aid any new firefighter type 2's looking for suggestions.
Just got offered to be on the hand crew... your videos have been SUPER helpful. Thank you sir and thanks for all you do.
Great vids. I do US&R and am kind of a minimalist. I use zip top freezer bags for all of the kit in my red bags and web gear. If it gets trashed or I have to leave it in a hurry, it won't make me cry. Something to consider. You have great gear and it's expensive to lose.
Been watching your videos for awhile now Beast and absolutely look forward to each and every one. This is a particularly valuable review in my opinion as it comes through your hard experience and it's packed with practical ways of concentrating the maximum amount of kit in a minimum amount of space and weight. Gotta love the 14 socks on 5' of guyline, that was priceless; we heard it here lol! Keep up the fantastic work, you are one of the best our there on RUclips IMHO.
This video is GREAT! It was very informative, showed a gear setup that is custom to you and your needs, and was a fantastic compilation of your work activities. So many great things in this bag, and I am looking forward to the future reviews of some of those gear items that you mentioned. Thanks for the video!
Another great vid. Enjoy the information and your thought process as to the why you do things as you do.
Nicely done. Thank you for taking the time to explain everything so well.
Very interesting. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Also, much respect for doing the fire gig. Take care!
Great vid, Beast. Too many people really don't use their hard gear hard. (Like owning a 4x4 to drive around town.) Great field experience brought to YT...thanks for your contributions throughout the year.
you got my dream job man. thanks for doing the reviews i really enjoy them.
I am amazed at the effort you put into this vide, thank you for sharing!
god bless you fire boys... because no other bastard will
good video. I was signed up for the crew out of PA for a couple of years but was never able to make a trip out west. Still on the in state crew here. Always good to see what others carry with them.
Great setup Beast. Looks like your prepared pretty well to me. Take care man.
Some positive and negative comments from a 20 year federal firefighter:
Positive - Clothing recommendations (construction and quantity) were dead on. Too often I see people using the same socks or underwear for 2-5 days. Its not healthy, its not comfortable, and its not cool.
Negative - Boots. Steel shanks do not act as good hotspot detectors...ever. Also, I don't care how short you are, 8" is the minimum boot size allowed on a fire in the lower 48...period.
Finally I was able to watch this one : ) Great video beast that's packed with info.
I added in a thermarest pillow to my sleep system about a year ago & haven't looked back. It's complete luxury & can be left at home, but I can tote it.
Funny that there were guys that have never thought about using a ground pad. I would love to see their pack : )
If you want I think a video about your thoughts from being a fireman would be interesting. Maybe a story or 2 that sticks out. Take care buddy
@joerackl big agnes insulated, they take up less space, but you have to inflate them, but are 2 inches of pure comfort
Nice set up. Thanks for sharing.
Great video!
Thanks for sharing.
I look forward to the tent review when you have time. I'd like to see a vid on your foot care kit as well. =D
Thanks for all your hard work.
...wow, great Doku! Cool Video.
Good point on the boots. I've heard of people being booted (no pun intended) from fires for boots that didn't meet specs.
Nice review. quality gear and well thought out!
I wish they still made this bag.
Great job
Great review of your gear Beast. You mentioned doing a review of the bag and I would request such. I almost bought one last summer but there is an extreme lacking of reviews on that bag on the web so I decided against it. Thanks.. stay safe/ warm up there!
great video.a lot of experience went into that kit.thanks for sharing.I do have one ?-You mentioned tape a lot. What uses do have for the tape.thanks
Great, great video, sir!
I wish I could, I just looked at it and there is no name on it, plus I doubt REI still makes that version, it has been one of my favorites, I may have mentioned it on other vids, if I remember I'll let you know.
do you have an itemized list of every item you mention in this video? It is the best I've seen.
yeah its pretty much the exact same thing when i do all my mining trips... gotta bring everything...
awesome video buddy!
Thank you very much for all your videos. I'm in the PNW too, so I end up with a lot of the same gear. I'd love to know the name of that REI jacket if you can remember! Thanks!
Out of curiosity... Why use a duffle instead of a back pack?
Im non gov. /private contract , so Im not quite sure, I doubt they would pay for the flight
I wasnt actually looking for a bag but now you have thinking about it. How much bigger is that 3-1 then the doppleduffer?
Very nice setup Sir! -- Although I would have needed to have packed way yonder more TP for 14 days! ;^{P>
I couldn't find this bag anywhere online I looked all over
Cotton is a terrible choice of sock, wool all the way man. Get a few pairs of darn tough heavyweight full cushion merino wool socks
I never did weigh it, unless your crew is flying the 65 total weight limit is pretty mute.
I did at one time, I will see if I can find it
showers?, heck we only had 1 fire last year that had a true fire camp, rest of the time we were spiked out
How many pounds total does your red bag add up to?
@beast12101 the whole bag...lol. I know the ends sip off and you can make a murse/ pack but thats about it. I know its a simple design and all.. what are your thoughts on it...
@hinckleypoland im working on it today, anything you;d like to see?
Just curious, but did your crew ever have to actually hike in your red bags into spike camp? Or we're they always flown in?
Never use the showers...
...but if you do, flip flops/sandals are your friend.
Nice!
What kind of anges pad was that. do you prefer that over thermarest?
Does it have to be in a duffle bag? I’m about to start my first season and I just bought a 60L osprey hiking bag
Nope what ever you need, government folks may have other restrictions
With respect sir but do wildland firefighters steal your stuff?
Never had anything taken, assuming you mean st camp while im out on the line
I'm looking to get a similar bag to replace my red bag for work. did you have any trouble with taking this bag on flights due to its size? btw great videos
Ya... he has time to write you back and respond 🙄🤣🤣....stupid lil boy
How do i become a forestry fire fighter? Ive been trying to sign up but just keep getting re-routed. I am trying to be a sessional fire fighter. So i can strive to become a smoke jumper. Please get back to me as soon as possible 🙏🏼 i need to get my 🌹mom a tomb stone 🥀she deserves thank you 😊
Are you in central Oregon?
No i live in California but im willing to relocate for awhile if thats what it takes to further my carrier 🤝🏽this is my next huge goal in life
@@GALVAN559 apply with FS or Calfire or move to the pnw and seek out contractors
@@WanderingBeast ok thank you brotha i greatly appreciate it. I also herd about Bewer.Land.Managment but dont know to.much besides what my dad an brother told me.
what about a temperature gun
no real hiking with the red bags, most spike camps are accessed by our rigs via forest roads, etc
I have applied for 2013 season. Are you with BLM? I did 5-10 of each agency on USA Jobs.gov (NPS,USDA, BLM,FWS...). What do I have to do now? How do I know if I got accepted or not? all that good stuff.... And do they pay for your flight if you have to travel? (ex. I live in Arizona and I get accepted to MT.)
-Thanks, Vlad
what's the song in the beginning
What boot wax do you use?
Also, don't touch the rail on the dinner line.
Which do you prefer mystery ranch hotshot or the coaxsher
mystery ranch for hand crew, coaxsher for engines
whos you log of Cope ??????
@whispers221 only Obenauf
what is the name of the song?
danosongs -one foot in the grave
Just a Suggestion, You need more socks, and ditch those crappy shoe laces.
huh
(^o^)/ Nice vid.
Please just talk about the bag omg lol
Hope those ain't Danners please don't ever buy Danners lol just saying I am interested in the bag
"De-Mobed"? Just say you're out of the field. No need to wordsmith. It makes you sound like a cav-scout.
de-mobed is the term we use when we are demobilized. opposite of mobilization when we get a contract to work a fire
@@WanderingBeast I understand. You do you.
