The Russians, Iirc was led by Mactep, and he's really a good strategist. They were running DED complexes right next to the sieged system. The Coalition was a mess after the defeat and it just got worse when the Goons came along and finished us off in the region. RA and RaT were really organised when it comes to pvping back then and metagaming was just one of the tactical options. Simply put the Russians were really good at pvp and whoring those DED 10 complexes like clockwork. If you ever flew with Mactep or evil thug, they run fleet battles with an iron discipline. Having played this game since 04 , this battle was soon overshadowed by the massive fight west of it. The first clusterfuck imo
+cptpwnd90 they have actually been doing pretty good over the past year. CCP restructured the way they are doing releases and it has had a huge effect on the quality. Plus they are actually attempting to interact with players now. Not all feedback is taken, but it is a lot more than was in the past.
Utterly, utterly magnificent!! My copy of "Empires of EVE" arrives tomorrow. Like many I have been watching and following its progress for almost 2 years. You made me a wonderful 51st b-day present, Andrew! I said today that I hope, twenty years from now, I'm sitting in the nursing home reading "Empires of EVE V: The Rise & Fall of The Mittani's Imperium During World War Bee." Stupendous work! And a stupendous video, Paul Leary!!
THIS is what the EVE Online TV show should be! This reminded me of historical documentaries. I could see myself watching a 30-40 minute long video like this. Awesome awesome video!
+John Clark We'll definitely talk about it if the response to this video is good. They take quite a bit of time, and this thing only exists because ObscurityX shot and scored the entire thing himself. Herculean effort.
+Andrew Groen honestly man, i dont even play eve but i really enjoyed the video... definitely think you should do more of them especially if you can talk about how certain factions were able to win against the odds unless it is too technical
The Coalition of the South fleet was massive but weakly organized. It showed up with hundreds of ships of all makes and models with very little in the way of true strategy. The Russians, on the other hand, were extremely well organized and knew exactly what they planned to do. After months of guerrilla warfare they were a finely tuned fighting force. Every pilot in Red Alliance was outfitted with the exact same ship - called a Tempest - with the exact same components, the intent being that every pilot would be on the same page as every other pilot at all times. They flew in packs of 10. The Coalition of the South dreadnoughts unpacked their heavy artillery and unloaded on the defensive starbase while Red Alliance pilots charged the enemy lines. In their small packs they swarmed the Coalition dreadnoughts like a pack of bees: difficult to hit, and packing a punch. The damage they were doing to the dreadnoughts forced the rest of the Coalition to try to defend them. Rather than destroying Red Alliance's defensive starbase, the Coalition was now on their back foot just trying to keep their own valuable ships from being destroyed.
+Viktor Nikolayenko EVE is a strange game. It is sooooo hard to get into, but it is one of the few games that goes beyond being a game. It is just so complicated.
Hell yes. Eve is the one game I'm absolutely in love with, but could never commit myself to play. This, however, is an excellent substitute. I love hearing the stories out of this game. I look forward to seeing more.
I really like you're presentation here. It works so well presented as documentary. I've played eve on an off for a year, but really got nowhere. Loved the frustration of the learning curve but had to tailor to my niche laying style. Logging on after months of inactivity and going it alone (Not a great plan.), so watching videos like these make me wish I didn't have a full time job and real life so I could properly invest in this game. Videos like these will have to suffice. After watching so much on the history, I really wish they'd make a show on this game like GOT. Would be neat seeing cut throat and irno willed players in coalitions get immortalised in such a way. The veterans really know how to strategise and it would fun seeing this dramatised.
This game will enter in the history of video games, just by his awesome community. And thx to this video, everyone will be able to understand it's awesomeness ; ) Great job !
And that is why I count EVE Online to one of the most fascinating games... I would have definitely played it 2 years ago already, but sadly time is my enemy... No time for such games, still fascinating. Wonderful video.
Sure at the beginning, but they were already outnumbered when the nazis advanced the rest of the army within weeks while the Russians retreated as many as the could until the nazis lay seiged to the city. they broke the nazis offensive and continued to be a pain in the arse with pocketed resistance when the nazis announced it was "taken" (which it wasn't. They just gave up and went around it) . So I feel that it's more appropriate than comparing it to the "300". :)
Amazing video! I rarely comment on youtube, but I really had to step out of the shadow to give my support to this initiative. Count me as a returning viewer if you are to release more videos of this kind. I understand the choice to use a 5 minutes format, but I really wouldn't mind if you release longer videos with more details, as some others already mentioned. Regardless, this format is perfect for people who don't play the game and just wish to hear some of the epic stories the EVE Universe have for us to tell. Many of my friends who don't dare to try the game are enjoying this kind of content, and this is for sure making them reconsider their decision. Amazing piece of work for everyone, New Eden citizens and outsiders as well.
We Slavs realy are a bit specific, can't seem to unite when its peace time, but when war comes, when we decide to unite and do something, we god damn do it and there eint nothing you can do about it lol
+Archangel03 History speaks for itself ;d I damn agree with you.I'm Bulgarian and such events just not in space ofc have happened in our history too.Our history is one of the oldest histories on the planet.Starting from 681.
only 70 of them were. the rest were cowards. also the only reason they only exist today (only as a fraction of what they once were) is by becoming allies with the enemies of their past).
Holy cats that was awesome. Do want to see more of this (and know what book i'm ordering when i get paid this weekend, lol.) The music was great, and whomever did the voiceover work was fantastic.
I've NVER played this game, and I probably never will. But this is so good!! This video looks like a "Previously on..." type thing. Like a trailer to what could be an awesome TV show! :P I need to get this book now. Great job on this!
This is really fantastic. I just chewed through the Kindle version of Empires of EVE over the last 6 hours or so, and I found it to be a brilliant history, even for those of us who don't play the game. More videos like this would be amazing.
Eve is fascinating because it isn't just a starship simulator, it's a geopolitics simulator. I hate playing it, it's a full time job, but man is it interesting to see the politics organically develop over years
Wow i am very impressed ! I said before that Star Citizen will topple EVE , but oh boy how wrong was i ... now i don' think this scale of battles will be possible in Star Citizen , not just yet maybe in 5 years who knows , but this is jut EPIC , can't describe it as anything else it is War and tactics just like people would do it in real life.Man i wish i was playing this game , although i would bid my life farewell and transcend into EVE.
+sickofitall89 the only people who talk about SC toppling Eve are the ones who never played eve, or did nothing there but mine veldspar. :]] It just wont happen, different scale and all. I`m early SC backer myself, and gonna enjoy this awesome spacesim. I will continue to enjoy Eve as well, just as I was since 2004. :]
+Swatmat Not many of the old alpha strike team remained from other corps either fed up with alliance response or just lost interest and quit the game completly at that time. Is a great story by the author regardless of its "historical" accuracy though I enjoyed it.
+Swatmat without really knowing about it (this is before my time) I'd guess that they did bomber runs on carriers until the coalition lost all defense then focus-fired the rest into oblivion.
+Erik4xp Well I mean, if they were smart enough to use those loopholes to their advantage, it certainly means they're good. Underestimating them is not going to help anyone lol.
If anyone is interested in the music only, I've uploaded a mix of the music to my soundcloud, thanks again for all the awesome comments and support, it means a lot to Andrew and I to see this video doing well. soundcloud.com/pauleary/empires-of-eve-the-siege-of-c-j6mt-original-score
May I be one of the first to say that this music is absolutely on fire! I've had it on repeat a couple of times already! Edit: Particularly the musical transition at around the 2:07 mark where the violins kick in? Righteous!
Awesome! History with a good, solid story. Really glad I never got involved on-line as it wold have sucked up way too much time. It's bad enough with all my other games.

PLease do more. this was entertaining. its a nice synopsis for 'virtual' reality TV show.
Damn now I feel old. Just decided to have a look on some of the old Legendary stories on Eve. I came in after this video. I started the game in this time. My brother was fighting in this war if I was not mistaken. He desperately wanted his little sister to join. I wasn't much into space games at the time but in this time I remember he had a huge battle against the Red Alliance against a Titan and some large amount of ships. They where then called The Brotherhood Alliance which was merged from Band of Brothers and after fighting off Red Alliance they took the name Pure Alliance. I joined the Brotherhood Alliance just before they became Pure Alliance but I was not part of the action just yet. There was lots op politics in the background with this war. Leaders that knew what they where doing fell away and secondary leaders has steped in for the position to call forth mergers to increase numbers for the consistent loss of ships. Hordes or money went through these operations and huge losses. there is a long line of history ripple effect after Red Alliance and it's interesting as hell. Imagine it was real life. This would be happening. A normal group of people starting something. Lots of people join and get driven to do things they have obviously never done before and yet the kind of men they become after this, they had no idea what they where becoming that day. Now we only speak of the history but feels as though this could not have been done by ordinary people such as our selves sitting somewhere in a basement playing video games. That War made me start Eve. For the simple fact that when That Titan made its entry, in those days before all these soft updates it had a Doomsday davice that not only went off killing nearly a 700 ships if I can remeber, It also made my brothers computer shut down. It created a masive hype. We did not see anyone die but that made it feel so much more intense and he reloaded his game in a mass graveyard with a pod and had to rush and fly out of the mess of survivors before getting killed or did get killed... It was epic. These where serious wars. It phased out lol and got boring. Sadly even if I wanted to start again. I had lost my account login informations and many many years of training. No way one can just simply start over after all that.
+JD Tea Probably nobody remembers. Andrew Groen, the author, dug up tons of people who played back then, but the details of battlefield strategy from 9 years ago likely never survived in writing or in the memories of the players. Even if the battle does have an AAR out on the internet somewhere, it's almost certainly in Russian.
Wow, history really does have a way of repeating itself. The current climate in Eve online can almost be copied verbaitim from this extract. Well Done. Looking forward to my copy.
I tried that game after loving Freelancer, but I was confused at the complexity and controls that I died in a few minutes and there was some kind of life pod floating about in space. Uninstalled and never looked back. I'd like to try it again but it seems too difficult.
+cotes42 It really has a steep learning curve. Many veterans stay, but some leave, because it takes a LOT of energy to play. But some of us that leave, still come back in the form of new pilots that slip in and out for 2-3 months at a time.
Thanks, I think I remember the CEO talking about that a few years ago, thanks for reminding me about it! I'm glad I've been saving for the next Radeon dual GPU card for a while now, now titled the Radeon Pro Duo. I think I'm going to need it! hahaha
Such a good topic and book. If you don't already own it you should buy a copy! It will help ensure there is a vol 2. I can't wait for a WWB rundown after the smoke has cleared.
why would you want to read a book about people staying docked because of being stupidly outnumbered, losing all their space, moving to the otherside of the galaxy and kicking everyone out of the new region they declared as their home
made no logical sense to fight to be fair. they could have done a Test during fountain and had a huge last stand but it would have completely ruined goons and it would take them years to rebuild. what they have done is save pretty much all their assets which has allowed them to take delve so quick
Anyone here from Brotherhood or PURE Alliance. anyone remeber Fistsandwich. Guy was a legend. Kept proving you dont need to have the best skills and ships to take out anyone. only skills. Was amazing. He would be in a small ship taking on 3 big ships in a mine field and he would kill them all 3. Guys was good but he was Prodigy. Fist if you ever read this...hows the Biltong and Boerewors treating you back there in England mate. Always thinking of everyone even years later. Fam.
if the expanse tv show ever wanted to do some sort of supplementary "great history" show, i'd think it could use stories like this. "the great belters war"
This is so much more immersive than the actual game for me :P Except when they call the universe "Eve online" instead of "New Eden" or whatever it is...
when youre top of the foodchain for as long as goons were you are going to step on a few toes. people like test had genuine rivalry with goons then a lot of people just jumped on the grr goon bandwagon on reddit
+Don Loocho A new player can be battle ready in less than two weeks. You won't be as effective as your betters, of course, but you'll be learning a lot while pulling your weight. It doesn't get harder until you fly bigger ships. The game has a steep learning curve, but if you can climb that mountain then you're set.
I still pray there will be another game released one day as glorious and epic as EvE online is. And hopefully that game will have actual fun gameplay because that is the only reason I do not play EvE anymore.
The Russians, Iirc was led by Mactep, and he's really a good strategist. They were running DED complexes right next to the sieged system. EVE Online, the only game i regret not starting sooner.
+delonewolf Agreed
SplatusEve Dude, delonewolf is a youtuber making videoes about EVE with a rather semi-big fanbase. I highly recommend you check out his stuff.
also a game the devs of which ruined it.
+cptpwnd90 they have actually been doing pretty good over the past year. CCP restructured the way they are doing releases and it has had a huge effect on the quality. Ivan Malik Agreed. They've done a good job ever since they fucked up with Incarna. (No sarcasm intended)
That's some Rooks & Kings quality content! I would pay so much for a full length documentary of this sort.
+Julian Apostate RT
So....this is going on the History Channel right? :D
*Stellar* job!
+Illutian Kade XD
Really, tho. All I could think about was the History Channel while watching this. I don't play EVE but this is so interesting and superbly done.
Utterly, utterly magnificent!! My copy of "Empires of EVE" arrives tomorrow. Like many I have been watching and following its progress for almost 2 years.

+Doc Kinne Thank you so much! This is a wonderful comment.
+Andrew Groen I hope you are looking at doing an audio book like this video ;)
holy shit I would pay for a historical eve movie like this. Anyway, book is great.
THIS is what the EVE Online TV show should be! This reminded me of historical documentaries. I could see myself watching a 30-40 minute long video like this.

+Andrew Groen That guy deserves a lot of cookies. Hope you have fun following the current war.
+John Clark I agree. A series of these would be cool. Plus coverage of more recent battles and events could include snippets of archived vids/streams.
+Andrew Groen Sign me up! This was the most fun I've had doing what I love.
+Andrew Groen honestly man, i dont even play eve but i really enjoyed the video... definitely think you should do more of them especially if you can talk about how certain factions were able to win against the odds unless it is too technical

This is much better than the " Gave the order to 'counter-attack' "
That had annoyed me. Like duh.
Bro really just copy-pasted an excerpt from the book like we wouldn’t notice 💀
I’ve come back so many times over the years to rewatch this. Please do another one again... please
This video feels so much like one of the intros to the Wargame series' campaigns. This is really well done!
I dont play EVE, but this is FANTASTIC!
+Viktor Nikolayenko EVE is a strange game. It is sooooo hard to get into, but it is one of the few games that goes beyond being a game. It is just so complicated.
Matthew Clay , Difficulty is always a positive factor for a good game ;)
Then EVE must be the best game of all time because 10 years in I still find it hard at times.
Benjamin Davis ahahaha I bellieve u! :D
Hell yes. Eve is the one game I'm absolutely in love with, but could never commit myself to play. This, however, is an excellent substitute. I love hearing the stories out of this game. I look forward to seeing more.
wow.. the voiceover the music the tale..im speechless..goosebumps one of the best videos to start a fire in me..
One of a kind history that truly explains Eve Online in a way no one else could, Kindly continue to produce these videos!
It's similar to the Soviet partisans during the second World War.
well this group ends up fighting a fascist empire name the band of brother
I dont even play EVE and I want more of these videos. Like today. :)
could we PLEASE get more of these??!!!! you are the perfect narrator for this stuff!
Absolutely incredible to think this was just one chapter of many in the history of C-J.
This should definitely be a whole series. The history of Eve Online is great and I would definitely pay for a whole docu-series.
This was so good it made me want to get back into EVE. PLEASE make more!
This is amazing! I'm on my 2nd read-through now. I would thoroughly enjoy a youtube video in this style going over the entire book
If you release an audiobook, I hope it sounds like this. Amazing job!!!
So much nostalgia watching this. I remember being there as a member in Lotka Volterra. Can't believe this was over 10 years ago,
I really like you're presentation here.
Never played EVE and I still enjoyed watching this. Good job, sir!
Would love more of these EVE history videos.
As a former drake pilot, I just got chills and a sudden urge to sign up again.
And that is why I count EVE Online to one of the most fascinating games... I would have definitely played it 2 years ago already, but sadly time is my enemy... No time for such games, still fascinating.
Wonderful video.
Space Russian 300 moment i guess...
+Paradise92 don't you mean space russians version of the "battle of stalingrad"?
:p
+Onizuka GTO Didn't the Russians lose more troops in Stalingrad?
Sure at the beginning, but they were already outnumbered when the nazis advanced the rest of the army within weeks while the Russians retreated as many as the could until the nazis lay seiged to the city. they broke the nazis offensive and continued to be a pain in the arse with pocketed resistance when the nazis announced it was "taken" (which it wasn't. They just gave up and went around it) .
So I feel that it's more appropriate than comparing it to the "300". :)
@@OnizukaGTO And by that you mean "they waited until the nazis died from the cold"
@@aklimaron7398 yeah, but the 300 failed to resist. They all died. The Russians defeated the 400 others!
For those of us that aren't readers, please make more of these! ♥

i have been waiting for this to come out!! finally, its damn good, and yes, MORE!!
This video makes me unbelievably happy.
this was so bad ass, and presented so well, I could have thought this happened out of the game, and in the real world...I am majorly impressed.
The music is really loud, making it hard to hear the voice every now and then.
well produced video with excellent narration. must...buy...book.
I haven't played EVE in over a year, this makes me want to come back lol excellent story telling, I subbed :)
brilliantly made... do more as this is the best aspect of the game...
well done !

Even if the battle does have an AAR out on the internet somewhere, it's almost certainly in Russian.
Wow, history really does have a way of repeating itself. The current climate in Eve online can almost be copied verbaitim from this extract.
Well Done. Looking forward to my copy.
+Araneatrox wait are you the araneatrox from Mack's channel...?
***** Very same guy. I like to get around.
holy man its a small world
I'd love to see more videos too. This was amazing, rally enjoyed it. The universe is so cool but the game is just too complicated for me to get into.
+cotes42 If you liked Freelancer, give Star Citizen a go. Both it and EVE are amazing games (or games to be).
Thanks, I think I remember the CEO talking about that a few years ago, thanks for reminding me about it! I'm glad I've been saving for the next Radeon dual GPU card for a while now, now titled the Radeon Pro Duo. I think I'm going to need it! hahaha
EVE Online is truly a one of a kind game. Hope to see more if these videos.
Congrats for the video. Really amazing job
MORE I need to know more!!! Its Awesome.
I hope to god Star Citizen can amount to even 60% of the diplomatic complexity EVE has to offer, let alone a working game (no offense)
True it went down with a whimper which was sad for everyone involved. I thought it would be the next great war, but it was a whimper.
made no logical sense to fight to be fair. they could have done a Test during fountain and had a huge last stand but it would have completely ruined goons and it would take them years to rebuild. what they have done is save pretty much all their assets which has allowed them to take delve so quick
One of the most exceptional stories of New Eden
I love the narration really good!
Fam.
Amazing stuff. More PLEAASAEEE
this is great. Wish there was an option to listen to the players mics/ts too tho
if the expanse tv show ever wanted to do some sort of supplementary "great history" show, i'd think it could use stories like this.
"the great belters war"
This is so much more immersive than the actual game for me :P
Except when they call the universe "Eve online" instead of "New Eden" or whatever it is...
I'll buy if there's an audio book with this voice, even better if you add music to it. :)
Will you make an audio book?
If you make same way a bigger video like documentary that would be awesome.. I really like this video.. Npt fan of books
Bought you book last year, was the best day of this year when it arrived on my doorstep! This was epic, get working on the Fall of Goonswarm! :-)
+TheJamesthe13 amen to that
I'm not 100% on the politics. Why do people hate Goonswarm and the imperium? was SMA's debt that big?
when youre top of the foodchain for as long as goons were you are going to step on a few toes. people like test had genuine rivalry with goons then a lot of people just jumped on the grr goon bandwagon on reddit
i want this to become a "gundam" like anime, no joking, it would be AWESOME.
Ah memories. We shall enjoy them.
Amazing, more please!
Final seventies refuse to retreat...Solomon and David... 72 + 1
i really wanna play this game but can i start now and compete with this 10 years players ._. ?
+Don Loocho Yes, yes and yes!
If you ever want to try it out, PM me and I'll help you get set up. A little help at the start can go a long way.
Proud to be a member of RMC
Amazing video and an amazing book!
You need to do a documentary video
Amazing story! I wonder if something like this is still possible these days...
I still pray there will be another game released one day as glorious and epic as EvE online is.
And hopefully that game will have actual fun gameplay because that is the only reason I do not play EvE anymore.
This is bloody awesome!
ugh why did i watch this, now i might re-active my accounts
Just did that, there was also a special reactivation offer, 2 months play time for 1 month fee.
yeah i already got bored and deactivated again.
oops
bored because you cant play the game I see
