The chemistry between these two is the heart of the show for me. When they first met, it was kind of awkward seeing these two interact but still pretty funny, but as the audience started getting into these two, they started to get into eachother.
Scully started to understand Mulder's sarcastic weirdness and Mulder started to accept Scully's serious sceptism.
I agree. I think it was a bit awkward in the first episodes, because, like you said, they had to get into their characters. But then, they started having this awesome chemistry, the best I've ever seen. It was a gradual thing, a journey through the seasons, and as you progressed, the stronger the chemistry became. Not just between Mulder and Scully, but between David and Gillian. I think it is really hard to find to actors with this chemistry, almost impossible. That's because in all the cute moments between Mulder and Scully, David and Gillian weren't acting and they didn't feel uncofortable.
It is totally the heart of the show. Best show ever!
I agree the chemistry between these two is off the charts, but it developed very naturally. They started off in that awkward getting to know you phase, and then they became the only people in the world that they could trust. I love the romantic aspect of Mulder and Scully, but I’m also completely content with their beautiful friendship that is based in a true love and admiration. I know that at some point in filming Gillian and David had some drama and a bit of a falling out, but on screen they are incredible in every scene.

just do what I did years ago and challenge him to pee with the seat down. "unless you have the sniper eye of a five year old?", something along those lines, I'm pretty sure I said lol. And it worked! Plus I showed him how much faster the space under the seat became nasty compared to him now pissing the seat down.. ;) Cause usually the seat was used to hide the piss drops but now if even one got on the seat he has to wipe it..!
Thank God my brother didn't do that. Nothing worse than going in late at night and sitting on the dirty ice-cold toilet bowl. Or worse, almost falling in.
@CallMeOgmios Because when you go to the bathroom at 2am you shouldn't have to turn the light on or feel around the toilet bowl to make sure you can sit. Or forget and sit down on an ice cold, dirty bowl. It's gross.

LMAO this entire episode is hilarious. I love how genre busting the x-files was. You'd go from a hopeless, angst ridden and violent episode to THIS. Let's be honest the comedic episodes were golden to watch and we need some light in amongst all the dark. Mulder is totally in his element here and loves playing house and pissing off the neighbors. Scully is your typical exasperated foil and is ready to murder Mulder over his messiness. LOL they end up living together later on so i can imagine the cute bickering between them.

Ah welcome to the x-files. Where you can be lamenting the virtues of God in one episode, sobbing over losing your partner in another, chasing a creepy cryptid in another, busting the alien myth in another and then busting a gut laughing in another. The x-files was the first of it's kind to whiplash with it's genre. The episode before this they were stuck in an appartment building in a storm with a sea monster killing people. And it was very much not funny. But yeah the x-files was legendary for messing with the format. And some of the funniest moments on TV were in what began as a cult niche science fiction show that ended up becoming a pop culture juggernaut.
The show was a mixture of mythology, monster of the week, spiritual and comedic. It was awesome.
