Hyper threading. CPU is boosting, consuming way more power with GPU power starved. They might need to fix this behaviour via bios updates. Try to turn hyperthreading off and you will see Improved performance at 30w.
I don't think your battery testing "results" are valid because you aren't running the device from 100% to 0%. You can't assume that battery drain is linear from just a few minutes of testing. Especially when you didn't test the other devices you compared the same way.
Yes, it bugged me cuz as you said, battery drain is not linear but he's the only one doing a test so it's fine really, it gives a rough estimate of what to expect.
Personally I think we need to focus on efficiency not more power. Adds better battery life while performing better at lower wattages. Valve did get this right with AMD and AMD should have made the Z1 chips more efficient at lower wattages than higher ones at around 20w. Hopefully the Z2 chips end up being more efficient at lower wattages and even surpass the Steam Deck at 3-10w
At around 5:30 - 10:30 on a recent definitive look video by the Phawx, he shows a performance graph and according to it keeping thermals set to performance but setting the OS Power Mode to efficiency showed the best. Something about less power to cpu and more to gpu when set to efficiency
I was going to tell him the same thing!! Lol. Set the os mode to efficiency. On performance, windows allocates most of the wattage to just the cpu which may be the reason why you're being throttled performance wise.
@@Jayw-cl8pq I'm also curious if it's just a Go thing, or if all apu's work like that because then the Ally should also perform better for people when set to efficiency mode
@@jonathantroyer2822 I'm curious about that as well. Definitely more research is needed because generally in the past, all these tech vids suggested putting windows in performance mode while gaming on a desktop or laptop. Now it seems the other way around.
Mine only charges on the main charger that was sent with it. If I use my phone charger from wall plug it doesn't charge and it doesn't charge from my 99w battery pack !?
Running on Linux, I like to play hell divers with my legion go. 30W can kinda play at around 45-55fps. However, I can push it to 40w. And then it can keep a steady 60 fps. Hell divers 2 is really cpu intensive to all that extra wattage is going to the cpu.
1.5 hours is absolutely amazing 😅 No gaming Laptop I had could ever do that, even when I turned of the GPU and ran on integrated graphics! Add a 80-100Wh Powerbank and you are looking at 3h-4h of gameplay!
How much battery life will I get if I ran this on lower power mode with 50% brightness reading documents only? I need a mini PC tablet for on the go to read documents.
I believe its portability is mroe design for easy carrying, I tried it while camping and believe me, it not meant for that, it's more for gamers that work and travel so they can confrotably carry a small device, I just realized I can't play on top of the everest
I regret buying lenovo legion go i should buy steamdeck oled. I do have steamdeck lcd the battery it much more better than lenovo legion go. Even i play cyberpunk on my steamdeck with 12tdp work well n smooth but lenovo legion go even 20w tdp still lag and consume battery that last only 1.2hrs compare to steamdeck can last nearly 2hrs
Nope, my battery lasts 40mins at 20W also, capacity is suppose to be 49.2w for the battery, mines already dropped to 45w total capacity after not even a year... Very disappointed.
I think you got more battery life when you increased video settings because you were getting way lower fps. Lower fps = MUCH less strain on CPU. Increasing video still should decrease battery life, but the higher fps you get the more it strains the cpu. You can see this in task manager. If you run a game at 144 fps your cpu utilization is significantly higher then if you run a game at 20 fps.
Hi, thx for the video, but I thought legion go has a power bypass mode,by default from the company , by using the power outlet ,that won't overcharge the battery cycle, that is why I love this GO, that I didn't go for the asus ally , so far ,I love my Legion Go
No! An hour to an hour and a half is not enough for gaming! Even the switch can give up to 5 to 8hrs. I would say the legion go baytery is a little bit better than the rog.
What?? You realize this is playing AAA titles that are very gpu and cpu intensive, right? You can emulate switch games and play 5-8 hours as well. That's like complaining that you can only run at the top of your speed for only 1 minute, but can jog for 20 minutes. Of course less demanding stuff lasts longer, the switch can't even play those AAA titles to begin with
@@miuletzmitzu6641 bit the switch is more liked and preferred globally make that make sense? That jogging comment made no sense! Obviously battery life is thr biggest concern over power. Leigion Go have smaller heat sink and fan compare to Ally (go watch some teardown video). Play at full 30w while charging probably generate more heat than it can handle so it thermo throttle. Another issue with this small fan is it need to spin faster, and the fan noise is unavoidable. And yes, this is hardware issue.
Try compairing its battery with the new STEAM DECK OLED. Lenovo Go standing beside Steam Deck Oled, its just OUT OF ITS LEAGUE. Steam Deck has the last laugh.😂😂😂
There's pros and cons to both options. You get what you optimize for. Better graphics and fps? Worse battery. Lighter graphics and fps? Better battery.
