From what I've read, behind that smile, Elvis was worried if he would still have a career after a two year absence from the public eye.

This footage is amazing. Through this we see not the super star of the stage but a young man who seems nervous about a big moment in his life and yet manages to laugh and smile, treating everyone with respect. Elvis's charisma really shines through in this, he does not need to be putting on a show to captivate and that is the mark of someone truly special.

Elvis was respectful to everyone, police to children, where he would bend down to their level to talk with them and give time. He was close to his parents but was especially close to his mother, and he looks like a perfect blend of Vernon and Gladys to me. Elvis was a role model and a rebel.

Fantastic footage which isn’t normally shown. Privileged to have seen this, thank you . Gladys looks so beautiful in that dress and Vernon was a handsome man. You can clearly see the love Elvis has for them both and I can also see the concern on his mums face at times, knowing she isn’t going to be able to see her son for a while. So sad that Gladys passed away while Elvis wasn’t there. 😢

I can see that Elvis got a lot of his mannerisms from his dad. And, I can tell that Gladys was so upset that she couldn't even look at Elvis. I notice how Elvis keeps trying to get his mothers attention to calm her down, but she won't even look at him. But, it was a nice little insight into their family dynamic. It looks like Elvis and Vernon got along a lot better than I had always heard, and that's nice to see. Thanks to your channel I'm starting to see that almost everything I have ever heard is turning out to be a lie. Thanks again. Nice video.

Love the bit with his parents, notice how he glances every now and then at his mom, like he's making sure she's ok. It's touching to see.
He was a little nervous I think, I think that's why he's laughing I think it's maybe a nervous laugh mixed with excitement ... I don't know. I do know if it had of been me I'd been crapping myself!! 😂
He excelled in the army didn't he?
It's a shame he's mom passed during that period.
I love seeing footage of him with his parents. It's nice to see him with his family.
I remember loving seeing the army footage as a kid, boy did I swoon! It's that smile...maybe it's everything...he's the man!!! Most importantly he was just a man, a man who served his country well, job as always well done, Elvis! 👍😎

It sucks man. The govt came in and stopped Elvis at the height of his career because they wanted to try to stop the Rock and Roll take over and him as well, and to show everyone they are in control. Its quite sad. Anyone can tell that their family were trying to put on a face, but were truly hurt by all the change and he's poor mother, she looked like she had not slept in days. Elvis, his father and mother looked very sad by all this.

Although this was the proudest day for Elvis,s parents , for Gladys especially it was a day of great anguish, wondering what dangers her son could be facing on this next journey in his life. As we know sadly she passed just before he was sent to Germany, but i too heard of a rumour where it was said, The Col was behind getting him sent there so he could get him away from his mum,s influences. The Col and Gladys never saw eye to eye, she didn't like the world The Col had gotten him involved with, she actually gave an interview to a fan club lady in 1956 telling her of her fears and how it wasn't what she wanted for Elvis, she even wanted him to quit and settle down with a wife a children.
I think Elvis would gladly have Given it all up if he thought it would have saved his mothers life, he did everything for his parents to have a better life especially his beloved mother and I think he lived with the guilt of causing her the stress which ultimately led to her untimely and sad passing.
I actually felt for Elvis and the other men around him in these videos, that day was a very private and personal day to them all and to have have the multitude of press reporters and cameramen shoved in their faces was quite intrusive. You can fully understand why Elvis didnt want any preferential treatment, these men were going to be his "pals" colleagues, and confidants for the next 2 plus years he needed them onside not thinking he was better than them , of course Col only ever saw Elvis as his commodity so even a day as special and sacred as this this meant only lucre to him.
As for Elvis,s cheeky grin in the videos just his own way of masking his nervousness and the gravity of the situation, at the same time trying to lighten the load of worry etched across Gladys, s face. He knew how much she worried about him even though she tried to mask it from him.
His girlfriend Anita was with him this day, and although she spent time with him when did his training, The Col forbid her to go out to visit him whilst in Germany she was all set to go apparently , , the very person I think he should have had with him especially after losing his mum just before he was posted there. The Elvis story we know from then on could have been an entirely different one, all supposition now though.
had Elvis not been granted sp ecial leave to see his mum when she was ill in hospital , would he have gone AWOL, to true he would, his mother meant more to him than anyone or anything.
To the various comments on here who think Elvis,s close relationship wuth his mum prevented him from having a normal relationship with women, I personally think quite the opposite. Gladys instilled into him, respect for women, the sanctity of marriage and th e importance of family, he had way too much respect for her to disregard her wishes or let her down. Elvis said himself that when was first married and subsequently a father were the happiest he'd ever been and how proud his mum would of been of him.
As with everything in Elvis,s life, his master , sorry manager was always the one pulling the strings.

After drafting Elvis the army wanted him in special services as a promotional tool. The security costs of keeping Elvis as a regular soldier was too high. Elvis was willing to accept that. The Col's whole strategy, however, was based on Elvis being a regular soldier so he went as high as the Pentagon to assure that. That's what I read

    • @ElvisistheMan_
      @ElvisistheMan_  3 года назад +1

Can u explain that more? I know they wanted Elvis to perform and entertain but Elvis just wanted to be a regular soldier, but I haven’t heard what you’ve said

    • @rodriguezthiago318

@@ElvisistheMan_ They wanted him in special forces where he could perform and promote the army among young men so that they would join. There was a meeting between Elvis, Vrrnon and the Col. where he explained that he was going to turn Elvis' army stint into a great career move. But for the plan to work he would have to go as a regular soldier. Elvis was uncertain but Vernon agreed with the Col. The special services were seen as a way for celebrities to cop out. So Elvis got several offers from different branches but the Col told that there was nothing he could do because Elvis had made up his mind. Actually, it was the Col's idea 😆. I read it in a book called "Down at the end of lonely street"
