      Hey, best buy employee here. Just so you know, if anything with the geek squad protection has replacement on it, you can just go into the best buy on the final year of the replacement and just say its defective in whatever way and they will give you the store credit of whatever you paid for that product. This means you can just upgrade lets say headphones 3 years down the line at only the cost of the protection. Just a tip that I think you should revise in a comment or say in a later vid.

    Hello everyone Best Buy employee here confirming stuff in this video: Price Match Guarantee has to have the exact same model number otherwise we cannot price match it this is however at managers discretion, truck delivery varies by store it's typically Tuesday and Thursday when they arrive, unfortunately negotiations typically never works at any store regardless if product is discontinued or is our brand unless it's open-box or the packaging is damaged, yes geek squad protection only get it for what you think you will break and no we don't get commission for anything we sell we use to get bonuses but since they made everyone's wages 15/hr. they removed the bonus so us employees no longer have incentive to sell our services, majority of are student deals are only during the summer time and anyone can apply for it, the normal rewards status is 15 day return/price match/exchange policy elite is a 30 day and elite plus is 45 days.

    • @yogentrax
      @yogentrax 4 года назад +31

      I am also a Bestbuy Employee the reasons not to get the Geek Squad Protection are not accurate. The manufactures warrantee only covers 1 year and only covers defects that evidently Occur during manufacturing. If you have a tv why would you want to mail it to for instance Sony, for days. When you can conveniently take it to your nearest Best Buy. If the damage is within the protection plan, we will try to repair, return to manufacturor on your behalf or get an exchange/gift card for the money you spent as store credit. You are not forced to buy the same brand, model or even item with that credit. It is understandable if you no longer want the same product. Paying $10 for protection kn anything over $55 dollars is a steal because these products usually receive eligibility for exchange over a repair. And within a 2 year period you might have the product laying around and literally just got $45 in credit for an upgrade or replacement because nothing is built to last now a days

The washer had a couple of scratches which turned into great savings for me. Love your channel, as somebody that works for Best Buy, I can tell you most of what you said is true with the exception of how we handle our warranties, our protection plans are much more Beneficial to the customer than any type of manufactures warranty would be, obviously it’s your choice that you May or may not want to protect yourself Against issues you might have but the sad truth of it is is that the Electronics are made very cheaply and rely heavily on a control board that is very finicky when it comes to power and things like power surges. Plus usually if we can’t fix the item, Ie Smart home electronics, those protection plans are essentially replacement plans, we give you store credit back to put towards whatever product is available at that point.
    Anyway I love the channel, I’m always looking for deals that Best Buy may not have.

    Hello. I’ve worked for Best Buy for 6 years. 4 of those years were Inventory and the last 2 have been with Geeksquad home theater. Truck schedules vary from store to store and the morning they get there they usually get down stocked that day. As for the geek squad protection, I can only speak on TVs. You’re gonna want to buy the warranty. While it’s true Samsung, Sony and Vizio etc have their own warrantees they don’t cover uninstallation and reinstallation of the TV and anything you may have connected to the Tv. It can be as simple as just a cable box or as complex as a whole home theater system connected with smart home accessories. I have been to countless homes were clients have had to pay us just to take down the TV so that Samsung or Sony can put in the part and then pay us again to put the TV back up because those manufacturer’s won’t do that. The thing with these new TVs is that they’re basically smart phones. A lot of software is going in and not all the software is stable which can cause certain things to mess up with in the TV. And that’s where most of our repairs come in, main boards and power boards.

      @thanegotiator 3 года назад

      @@amogus7928 yes, as long as the plan is a REPLACEMENT plan other then that they’ll attempt to fix it, which in my opinion is still better than the manufacture warranty which will require you to ship it (risking more damage or getting lost in shipment)
      I’ve done if it can’t be repaired they’ll replace it with the same one or you get a store credit for the purchase price. I generally stay away from the non replacement ones, I’ve replaced several tablets, a few monitors and a few other things they generally ask what the item is doing so they can log it and tell you go get another of hand you a gift card for the purchase amount.

What you forgot to mention is if they don't have the item you purchased and it's unable to be fixed, they issue you a store credit of the value of the item you purchased to put towards a new item. You can also use the Greek squad protection over the manufacturer warranty since companies can take forever ESPECIALLY during a pandemic, you can utilize their protection plan.

    For 3, that is right, just ask for a manager
    For 4, i disagree, cause the price you pay for the product can be refunded as store credit. Meaning you can buy a product with 4 years geek squad plan, and after 3 and half years just go and say that the battery doesn't hold charge or anything like that and you will be offered a replacement or store credit. You also should get it for sounds bars just in case they stop working, or a speaker might blow out.

    I’m an employee with Best Buy. I definitely disagree with number 4. I always suggest getting it on big ticket items like tv’s and appliances. Along with speakers and laptops. I’ve done the repairs personally and if the repairs are to much they will replace it. You don’t want to ever repair the panel on a tv they cost a lot. Sometimes more then the tv is worth. Speakers if you blow them they replace them. Plenty of benefits but they are pricey.

I was able to buy a box of 96 embroidery floss plus other items for $25 when each floss costs between 50-65 cents during the quarantine. I make my Christmas gifts so this was a great deal. Keep up the good work. :)

    I used to work for Best Buy. Absolutely no one gets commission. Ever. Commission stopped more than 10 years ago. If you are willing to buy open box items... do it on the weekend. Most items are 15% off already, but you can negotiate up to 20, or 25%. Absolutely DO buy the protection plan on TVs. ESPECIALLY, Vizio.

Geek squad protection for computers are the best. It includes Accidental. 5. ( not sure what his talking about. 6. Trade in yes but shop around. .. 7. Rewards he’ll yeah 8. Extra return period. 8. Store pick yes but some items need to be excluded. And no more curb side winter is coming. 9. Open box yes depends on the item.

    I run a business where I basically print every single day almost all day long, I use 3 different printers and always get the protection plan because I know for fact that it will only last 6-8 months printing with the quality I need.
    When It's time I just take it to the store and exchange it for a new one, I purchase a new protection plan for the replacement and have a brand new printer every 6 months for $20 - $25, retails $250 - $300
    I've done this multiple times with all my printers without any issues.

    I want to clear some things up, from a Best buy employee. There are only a few people that make commission, and those are the in home sales advisors that meet with clients at their home, and they'll work in the stores sometimes. 95% of people you see selling on the floor don't make commission, or bonuses. Hell, corporate is only giving out 3% yearly raises now regardless of performance.
    Also, we don't negotiate the prices on new in box items, and we never have, at least in my district/store. There are only three circumstances where we give discounts. One, open box items. I'm more than happy to grab a manager to shave some $ off an open box since we usually try to get rid of those things, they clutter up my department so I just want to see them gone! Two, if an order you placed got screwed up/damaged on delivery and getting another of the same item is backordered, we'll try to shave off some of the price on a higher model. Or we will just take 50 or 100 off just for the trouble. Three, if you sign up for the Best Buy card and are spending a decent amount of money, on certain accessories a manager might take 10% off. But if you come up to me wanting to buy a new TV and demand to negotiate on price, I'll probably just walk away since it's a waste of my time, managers won't just give out discounts just because you want one.

    Hey there, I use to work at a Bestbuy for 5years.ish, so I've seen alot. This video is pretty much spot on! This hit home lol love the video but just 1 or 2 thing's.
    ✏ If the item has "replacement(GSP-R)" and not "service (GPS-S)", get it...I'd rather use the credits that I bought the first item with onto the new one. Got an xbox1s for $200, 3yrs later used the credits on an xbox1x then priced matched for $275...save and reused $200.
    ✏Restocking on tuesdays or Wednesday's is the large restock and Thursday is random for bigger items and some smaller items for the weekend. (Just be mindful of asking an employee to go dig for it lol)
    ✏Bonus✏
    Go for the open box item's(in store). That's where you can save a few $1's or even $100's because you can test it out there and if you're planning on getting other stuff you can definitely talk to them about knocking off more of the sticker price.

    I have negotiated with Best Buy before especially with open box items!

  • @SummerPlasma
    @SummerPlasma 2 года назад +1

    Hi, I work for Best Buy, and I'm leaving some comments here.
    1. The primary deal with price matching is that the item you're looking to price match must also be in stock and shipped/sold by the place you're comparing from. So for example: On Amazon, the item needs to be the exact model, in stock, and shipped and sold BY Amazon otherwise BBY will not price match.
    2. Restocking schedules aren't the same with each store and anyone other than people working in the warehouses won't know what's coming in. If you're looking for an item and you want it asap and it's NOT sold out, we can absolutely place an order for you so you're ahead of the curve of other potential buyers when an item you have your eye on arrives to the store.
    3. I've never had anyone try to negotiate with me but it's not to say it isn't possible PRIMARILY with cosmetically damaged boxes for items. Open box/geek squad refurbished prices are set in stone and cannot be changed unless said item was improperly labeled in its condition.
    4. GSP is great for a number of reasons and often times customers don't understand the full picture. Sure, an item can be discontinued, but we issue a store credit in those cases or if the customer simply doesn't want an equal replacement item. We can also use the credit in the same transaction towards literally anything else and refund the difference (most likely to store credit). ADH (accidental handling) doesn't always mean drops or spills but anything unintended during normal operation. It also offers customers an easy physical and in most cases same day transaction vs spending days or weeks on end with support lines for each manufacturer. Also, some manufacturer warranties can be used with Geek Squad but those should be researched (in cases like fixing product). Of course, if you're confident you won't accidently cause any damage or you're 100% sure you won't run into any errors with using your product, go without GSP. Just like the return policy, you typically have 15 days to decide if you want to add protection anyway, so there isn't any reason to make any rash decisions right away.
    5. Student deals are great, make sure you're signed up first so you're notified on sales and deals we have :).
    6. The trade in program is awesome, and it is possible to order a new product (like an iPad in this example) and do a trade in at the same time. It will use the credit from the trade in towards the purchase of your order which makes one stop easy for everyone. With a BBY account, you can even start an estimate online which can be continued in store. Employees working at customer service will then evaluate the condition of the product themselves and produce the most accurate estimate to you. Please keep in mind that not every item will have value especially with older items (we would just then recommend to recycle if you really didn't want it) and the item will need to be factory reset before we accept it.
    7. Nothing to add on here :).
    8. Haven't had much experience with this other than the standard 15 day adjustment where if between the date of purchase and 15 days after, you see a deal for said item, we can price match the deal and the difference is automatically refunded.
    9. I've very rarely seen shipping fees only if the customer wanted the item earlier or if we needed to order directly from a vender. I'm not on the sales floor that often so it might be why I never see it but this video is two years old so things might've changed with this since then.
    10. Clearance and open box frequently change! Check every once in a while as items you see one day may not be the same in a few weeks. Not sure what else to comment on that one lol.
    If anyone happens to have any questions I'd be happy to answer them, I literally do that all day anyway so even if it's something silly send a reply my way.

  • @biasdouglas
    @biasdouglas 3 года назад +1

    Great video but there’s 2 problems with it. First Best Buy sales employees don’t work on commission so they get nothing for selling the Geek Squad Protection or anything else. If you are going to buy a protection plan on a product buy it from Best Buy. Best Buy is widely know in the tech industry to have the best protection plans on the market & it goes above and beyond the manufacture warranty and a lot of other third party warranties. On OLED TVs for example it’s the only plan that covers Burnin. The manufacturers don’t even cover that it also covers power surges. So it’s 100% worth it especially on your expensive purchases. As someone who works at Best Buy I can also tell you that almost every single employee gets the protection on everything they buy. I’ve had to use it multiple times and I’ve seen customers use it a lot to. I even make my family and friends get it on their stuff. When the employees offer it to you it’s not because we benefit from it, it’s because we’ve seen what can happen if your products aren’t covered, and it’s better to be save than sorry.

    I bought a 2016 55" LG OLED E6P in January of 2017 and got burn-in a little under 3 years despite the fact that I babysat that set every day!
    I had a tv stop working on me about 20 years ago and had to buy a new one because I chose not to buy the extended warranty and learned my lesson about purchasing one when it comes to TV's.
    Getting back to the LG OLED, I had purchased the 5 year Geek Squad Protection, called Best Buy, they sent someone to verify it was burn-in, they called me the following day to give me store credit for the amount I spent on the OLED!
    In addition, I asked them what are they going to do with my OLED (which was and still is very watchable) and they said they're going to throw it away. When I asked if I could keep it they said YEAH!
    I still have it and enjoy watching it every day! So I would definitely recommend the Geek Squad Protection as this was the second time this had happened to me. Best Buy is one if not the only company (not 100% sure) that covers burn-in. LG DOES NOT!
    Hope this helps. Good luck and happy shopping!

  • @Aj-hi2kc

    Generally speaking; rule of thumb is Skip extended protection plans for purchases under $500. For instance if shopping an OLED; LG and Sony will not cover burn in; but Geek squad will. I also use to recommend extended warranties on scratch and dent or open box purchases, as manufacture warranty is only good for 1 year.

      LG will almost always replace a panel with burn in, they'll often do it even if the TV is out of warranty. I am in an OLED subreddit and it seems that the instances when they are unwilling to replace a panel will burn in are a slim minority. I cannot speak for Sony.

    I think the protection plan is actually pretty great! Because they give you the amount you paid for the product twords your next buy, for example, I had the JBL charge 3 and it was a hefty 100 dollars so I got the protection plan and when it started getting slow and cracks sometimes so I took it to a Best Buy and said it is cracking I need a new one, and because they didn’t have any of that model I had 100 dollars twords my next speaker, the warranty was I think 20 at the time, and so I used the 100 to get the charge 4 which was 180 so I didn’t not paid 80 plus the 35 dollar warranty plan again for when this speaker messes up on me next.

    For Price matching? It MUST say - Ship and sold buy __________,
    Like Amazon, It must say Ship and sold buy Amazon, it cannot be a 3rd 4th party. BB DOESN'T EXCEPT price match with a big sale. Like double dipping. Its either price match or sale price. Own manufacturing warranty you deal with manufacturers. With protection plans you deal with BB. If the model is discounted? You get the newer model, but you pay the difference. So if the newer model is $50 more? You only pay that- you pay the difference. But you have to rebuy the 2,4 or 5 year protection plans that's available. Price adjustment on smartphones or only 14 days no matter what. In cell phones returns you get a 20% restocking fee.
    Opened box items- Most manufacture warranty is voided. So get the protection plans.
    Hope that helped and enjoy.

    #2 is not correct. Ads change every Friday and Monday now, has been like that most of 2020.
    #4 There is no commission structure on anything at BB, it doesn’t matter how many they sell they get nothing extra. You also just explained the best reason to get a four year plan on something and stated it as a bad reason very ill informed. If it breaks in 3 years and the old ones no longer available guess what you get the freaking new updated one. On product replacement plans you get full credit of original item to go back towards the. Re replacement. Nearly every electronic product carries a very minimal one year manufacturer warranty that generally only covers what the manufacturer considers to be “manufacturers defects” . Not only that the owner pays for the shipping to the manufacturer which can be almost as much as what the four year protection plan could’ve been. When it comes to TV's and computers the plans also cover power surges, something the manufacturer does NOT cover.
    #5 student deals is great .... for 3 months out of the year, June , July and august. For the rest of the year it’s horrid and usually only has a surface every once and a while and some useless stuff .

    Best Buy employee here. In regards to the warranties, there's a whole lot of misinformation. For starters, if the item is covered but isn't sold anymore, you still can get store credit back. Manufacturer warranties also only cover manufacturer defects, which are very rare and require you to send it off. Also, not all GeekSquad warranties cover accidental handling. Some things, (including all TVs) instead have screen problems covered i.e. bad pixels, power surges, etc etc.. It's just a generally good thing to have if it's an expensive purchase.

    Manufacturer warranty you have to go through them and any defect they have they have to deal with it. It’s also only 1 year manufacturers as well where the geek squad one it’ll be done by geek squad and it’s up to 2 years or 5 years. The GEEK SQUAD PROTECTION IS GOOD FONT SKIP IT ! It might cost some extra $$ but it’s better than spending 1000$ dollars on a tv and having to buy another one if it messes up within those 5 years whereas if you buy the protection for 5 years your don’t lose your money. Take my advice it’s worth it.

    Disagree with Best Buy warranties on TVs. I've had a huge positive experience when I've had issues with my plasma or 2 of my OLED TVs. If you get a 4 year plan (which typically TV manufacturers only give you a 1 year), and the panel has fuzzy colors, part of the screen malfunctions, doesn't turn on, etc, they will come out and repair or replace parts, the panel, or the entire TV. If that TV isn't available (as new models come along) they will give you what you spent on that TV from 4 years ago as a gift card for you to spend towards another TV. To me, that is HUGE. My plasma gave up the ghost 3 weeks before my warranty ended, and that's how I started my OLED journey. 👍

    Geek Squad agent here. Buying Geek Squad Protection (GSP) is great but depends on certain products. Buying the "Geek Squad Replacement Plan" (GSP-R) is by far the best, and it typically applies to products like headphones, accessories (even computer monitors), or smart home stuff. Basically, this is fulfilled through Customer Service, and if you just say "eh, stopped working", you get a full refund in-store credit. Otherwise, GSP for bigger items, like televisions and laptops, follow a repair program. Basically, we fix it for free, but you gotta be patient in giving us time to do so. This latter plan is a mixed bag if you are impatient, but if we can't fix it, you also get in-store credit for the item if it is not fixable.

    Manufacturer LIMITED warranties are only one year so if something goes wrong, you have to deal with them directly. So, having a Geek Squad warranty will actually benefit you. If you spend $1000 on a TV and $200 on Geek Squad Protection and it stops working year two, if they cannot fix it, they will replace it for you. I don’t know about you but I’m perfectly fine spending money on a plan that cover 100% of repairs/replacement. Without that coverage, you have to either shell out $$$ repairing it or buy a new TV

FYI, return policy is 15 days as far as I remember Also for some electronics you need to pay 15% of cost if even you order and return even 1st day even not oppend. This is my exp +2yrs ago stop shopping there...

    Hi Matt I'm not sure if you're watching comments on this video anymore, but you may want to amend the Best Buy price match and give more clarity in a future video.
    I personally tried to price match an exact product from Amazon and management informed me that they ONLY price match when Amazon itself is the seller. So if you're trying to buy Galaxy Buds on amazon due to a good sale and want to price match at Best Buy, they will only do so if Amazon themselves are the seller. This happened to me and because Samsung was selling the product ON Amazon, they rejected the price match.

    I don't agree with skipping the Geek squad plan. The geeksquad plan covers WAY more than the manufacturer. Ie. Lightning strikes, power surges, and daily wear and tear. And a lot of items like smart watches and laptops are covered against drops, breaks, cracks, and spills.

    I am a geek squad home theatre agent. While I understand not buying the geek squad protection on a sound at for example, I repaid 2-4 TVs a day. While this is generally not very hard, where the warranty becomes worth it is when you replace parts. On bigger TVs from reputable brands, it’s not uncommon to replace a part that is $400-$600. And if a panel goes out, it can be cheaper to just buy a new tv. However with the warranty it’ll either be repaired or exchanged depending on the availability and cos effectiveness of parts

    I feel as if a few of the things you mentioned need to be further clarified. Pricematch Guarantee: As far as matching Amazon or other marketplace websites, the product must be the same exact model (many times other stores such as walmart or BJs get a SIMILAR model with a different model number thus prohibiting the pricematch, in stock, not a prime deal, and shipped and sold by said website (i.e shipped and sold by Amazon not by a third party). Restocking schedule heavily depends on time of year and location. My store for example trucks come wednesday and fridays normally and sometimes a truck everyday of the week as we get closer to the holidays. Negotiating 99.9% will not work. No matter what you are buying, branding or bundling. Only successful negotiations I've seen is due to perhaps a scheduling/delivery error, and is very much subjected to the manager in said situation. Geek Squad Protection you are as dumb as a doorknob. There is no commission structure for selling it, we are all hourly employees. Your example was the Samsung SmarthThings Hub which was 4 years for $10.99. Should something go wrong with it in those 4 years, you bring it back and get store credit. You would obviously be replacing it with the newest generation or newest version of said product. So even if nothing was wrong with the item you could claim there was and get the latest and greatest of said device. Most/if not all products do come with some sort of manufacturer warranty however our plans often cover more, and are a lot more convenient for the customer. For example protection plans on TVs do not cover accidents but do cover power surge, dead pixels, screen burn-in, normal wear and tear and even a one time remote replacement. Plus if something were to go wrong with said TV, Geek Squad would come out to your house free of charge, unlike the manufacturer who would make you pay for a repairman to come out, and try to fix your TV. If we cannot fix it we would then bring the TV back into the store for you and give you store credit for the full price, not the sale price, of that TV. And a lot of products, headphones, drones, cellphones, computers are all accidental, meaning drops, cracks, spills and damage at all would be covered. You raise the point of saying you're not likely to drop your soundbar like you would a cellphone but if you only knew and seen how all these TVs and soundbars, and thousand dollar macbooks and laptops are just thrown about and fly around the truck you would not be saying that. Signing up for the rewards program is worth it for all the reasons you said but your main reason was for the exclusive discounts, you should push the best buy credit card as it gives you 5% back on all purchases as well as early and completely exclusive shopping days and deals through out the year. LOL that you think just because you do store pickup for your item that you will be in and out in less than 3 minutes. Good luck with that one. Especially when most customers arrive before their product(s) are ready for pickup anyway and then want to start a scene.

    I used to be a shopper for Best Buy in the West Coast market / Arizona. My job was to walk into every competitor, compare their prices to our own ... then go back to the office, and where a competitor had a lower price, I would lower Best Buys price ... ending in .97. There was no other competitor who was as aggressive as Best Buy in pricing ... to make sure that the price on the shelf was the lowest price available. My 8 hour day, consisted of two shops at two competitors, 5 days a week .... in Phoenix .... different competitors, and even different stores in different areas of the Phoenix Market. Once a month, I would go down to Tucson, and shop the competitors there. Our shopping staff consisted of 4 shoppers, all doing the same thing I was doing, and a manager ... and we worked out of the district office in Phoenix. There were shoppers in LA (who also shopped San Diego) and shoppers in the San Francisco area. A bigger market had more shoppers ... and we shopped 7 days a week. One shopper would work Wed thru Sun ... then rotate. It was a fun job, paid decently ... the biggest problem, is we technically were spies for Best Buy ... and when specific competitors (Fry's Electronics) found out what we were doing, they would kick us out of the store ... so we wore costumes, changing our appearance ... would write in a pad, or a voice recorder in our pocket with a hidden collar microphone ... once I gave all the prices over a cell phone, to my manager back at the office. You had to know the competitors, know what products Best Buy carried, from what appliances, to what sound card for your computer that they carried ... so you could get the prices, and compare to our prices to adjust them.

    I don't agree with you on Geek Squad protection plan. I work at Best buy and let me get the facts for you. Firstly we don't work on commission. Secondly things like Tvs sometimes have software upgrades and they might have tv issues. The manufacturers wouldn't help you with it so we just want to save our customers money and you would get in home service with geek squad protection. Also for appliances you would get same service, which is why we sell Geek Squad protection plan.

    Best buy had a display tv priced at 1299 I asked the salesman joking around. Ask you manager if he will take a 1000 for it out the door. Tax included. Remember it was a tv. He came back and said sold. So I said well I need a Blu Ray as well. I made an offer again. They accepted it. But I didn't know I could haggle. But that was my experience

    BUT THE INSURANCE! I always buy items and end up saying it is broken only to get a credit towards the upgrade version of the items

    Let me clear up number 3. NEGOTIATING ISNT A THING UNLESS it's a large bundle for a whole home theater setup OR during a time where we need to get rid of open boxes. Otherwise the prices are set especially if the item is already on sale then they can't touch it at all. Please don't go into best buy to haggle it just makes it awkward for employees who hate when people get Miss informed and think they can save money on items that are already on a great sale.

    Geek Squad protections extend warranties after manufacturer warranties expire. Literally just got an email from Best Buy clarifying that policy. Look into it. To your point however, there are products where it makes more sense than others, like appliances, and TV’s, but not sound bars and headphones for example.
