You created all of your problems. You had it up on that sidewalk and all you had to do. Was too tilted a little bit the right there over the edge instead of putting that cardboard there you could’ve just left. Everything the way it was and had your catch pan on it right underneath of it. You didn’t need to do what you did. It would’ve been very easy. Just hang two wheels over the edge of the sidewalk and then directly drain right into your pan. Everything a bit tilted the right way. And it would’ve went straight down into the pan.
Thanks for watching and I agree I caused a disaster. I’m going to slide a small cookie sheet under it next time as suggested by another viewer and hopefully that will make it much cleaner and easier
@@Outdoor_Prepper I liked the idea of having it elevated on the sidewalk as you did. However, as Tim suggested, leaving two wheels off the side would allow gravity to direct it into your catch pan rather than collecting underneath at the lowest point of the machine.
Thank you for posting this. I just picked up one of these yesterday. Now I know what to expect and how to mitigate any messes. I appreciate your efforts. Take care.
I just bought one and have done 2 oil changes, first at 2 hrs and second one at 5 hrs. First change was a disaster oil everywhere. Second change was totally different. I got a cookie and slid it under the gen and put a good tilt on it to drain the oil out and barely spilt a drop. Next oil change in 10 hrs and should be good to go.
thank you for posting video ... bet your next oil change will go much better ... as a result of you showing this video, a lot of people will have much better luck with their first oil change ... very kind of you ...
Thank you! I actually need to do another one and I will post a video of hopefully an improved one. I am going to try a fluid extractor this time. Thanks for watching!
I’m considering getting one of these or a Westinghouse DFc of comparable size. Yours and JD’s World oil change experience and advice were invaluable! Despite all the criticisms, I see it as lessons learned and future process improvements for when I decide which generator to buy. Excellent Job, Thank You!
We have one at work. We have treated it like shit barely any oil changed and at one point it was running backwards lol exhausting through the intake. And it still runs like a champ 6 years strong XD
Thanks for watching! That’s great to hear and my experience so far has been very positive. With proper maintenance I really hope to have it last a very long time
@@suunto61I’ve seen engines do this for a few seconds, my troybuilt riding mower did it almost every time I shut it down. I was baffled to and only thing I could guess was the valves were out of time/or the clearance was off.
You were so careful lol an it all imploded on you..kudos to you for still posting the video . this is the stuff great channels are made of..liked an subscribed 👍
Thanks for watching and absolutely - it will be changed every 25 hours. In my opinion that will help provide maximum longevity. I know it can be stretched out longer but oil is cheap and small engines don’t have filters so I’d rather change it every 25 hours and have the engine last a long long time.
Well since its understood you, angles and gravity have a misunderstanding. Changing out the oil early a few times on a new product is always best practice, people use this same technique to get out any metal shavings in new cars to make them last longer from manufacture's mishap.
I'm curious what cable I need to use in order to get more wattage out of this generator. Meaning if I hook up to the regular 15 amp plugs with say 12 gauge cord then I can only run 1875 watts through that cable. Do you need to use the RV cable plug and get the converter plug to locking type which can be hooked up to a transfer box?
This is the cable I use to go from the tt-30 to a twist lock on the transfer switch. Wow... How many time can we use the word Disaster? And I thought the Hindenburg was a disaster..... but this.....THIS was a DISASTER! Hope the EPA doesn't see this LOL. Thank you for the effort to make the video..... just maybe think things through a bit more and relax..... don't sweat the small stuff.... and BTW, this was all small stuff. I have to admit, it was entertaining..... but probably not for the reasons you were going for.
If you’d read the manual it tells you the gen. takes 20 ounces of oil. And what did you do with the funnel that came with the generator ??? A wise man would have cut part of the side out of an empty oil bottle with the cap on to catch the used oil. And wow no mess.
@@MrHitthespot thanks for watching and I feel your pain. I’m going to try a siphon to siphon the oil out and also try putting a baking sheet under it. Will post an update video when I find something that works better and makes less of a mess
Grenergy has a video about 10 things to get for this generator. One thing is an extension tube made for a Honda generator that fits Predator 5000. Said it and oil fill tube plug with magnet was about $15. Personally, I’d just cut part of the plastic housing away. But I’m not much on asthetics.
Duh.. You dont realize you solved your problem when you were tilting it.. Just put a 1" x 1" peice of wood under the wheels on the other side and you can drain every drop of oil without spilling a drop. You used a piece of cardboard as a drain pan, on your porch step.. Really? Thats why you have a mess.. And you used a cut water jug to catch the oil..? Yes you created a gigantic mess...

I use a suction oil change device, no mess! Suck oil out, add new oil and you are done! Same on my lawn mowers etc.
That’s definitely what I’m going to try for the next oil change! Thanks for watching!

Yeah. You did the oil draining all wrong.

You changed the oil at 6hrs runtime; great. Are you also going to change it at 30 hrs, when the owner's manual says to change the break-in oil?

You’re doing it all wrong. You need to get a syringe to suck that oil out and also to put the oil back in. Works like a champ.
Definitely going to try that next! Thanks for watching!

Just move it to your neighbors back yard and let the oil run out.

Where are all the 3d printer peoples. We need an attachment made that will clip on the bottom into a funnel.

What size Champion cover is that?
Thanks for watching! This is the cover I bought:

Should have cut the bottle top to be a catch pan to funnel the oil into the bottom piece you cut off.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
I normally just add oil to mine. It burns away so fast there is never anything to change. The stick is always dry when I check.

They sell a oil pump to extract the oil out too.

Put cat litter or oil dry on the spilled oil
