Thank you Karen! The black top that I am wearing, I sewed it about a year ago. The fabric for the sleeves had been a remnant I found at SR Harris, and I think this was the perfect use for it.
Thank you! This was not a style that I thought I could wear, and I was happy that I was able to come up with modifications to make it work for me. I have never chosen orange to wear, but I sure do like it now but I was “forced” to wear it 😂
Swoon swoon!! the top you are wearing is stunning!! About to make this dress in a leafy botanical print. It's all cut out. Thankyou for your tips! From downunder New Zealand
Of the 3 of you, you are the only one that loves this dress. It looks great and yes it is those sleeves that are amazing. I checked out all the hype on Instagram and there are some amazing ones. I think that having a drapey fabric is key. I also saw someone put elastic in the waist and would try that if I made this. I will get this pattern if I can snag one in a future Joann fabrics sale.
Hi Ami! , That is true. I was surprised to hear that the other two did not like it, as I thought it would look fabulous on both of them. I agree, there are some amazing versions out there! And drapey fabric is key. I must’ve missed the one that put elastic at the waist, that’s a good idea too. I have worn this a few times already, and it is comfy, and I feel so trendy when I wear it😂
I've fully cut out the sew over it Eve Dress it's a really good pattern. I'm making it for when I meet Giovanni Pernice and his current dance partner Lauren May Oakley. I'm going to see them on a show next month and I really want to say thank you to them for giving me the confidence to apply for my dream job. Working for the company who makes the costumes for strictly come dancing and dancing on Ice in the UK. Giovanni Pernice and his partner on last year's show eon strictly come dancing. His dance partner was Rose Alling Ellis she was born totally deaf she's absolutely amazing. Enjoy sewing.
Hello! Thank you for the sweet comment, I do feel pretty enthusiastic about sewing 😍😂❤️. The sleeves are fabulous, aren’t they? The style is not something I would’ve chosen, and I’m happy this was the pattern that was picked, as it pushed me out of my comfort zone. And I am enjoying my new dress.
Love yours. Just finishing an orange one too! As I was finishing the slip stitching, I thought why didn’t I stitch in the ditch! ...and now you’ve confirmed it! I’m tall so just lengthened all of the pieces and the wrap over isn’t low on me. Never worn orange either. Orange must be the new black 🙂 And thank you for the sleeve width tutorial.
Hey Sharon I usually don't comment but I have to say I really love that shirt you have on in this video. I am going to try it with some other fabrics, because I am sure I won't find the shear fabric. Love your channel
Best video I've seen you do. You're so comprehensive! The dress really is cute. It's funny - I thought I was the one dragging my feet with this pattern! 😂I love the way you increased the sleeve - excellent tutorial. And the way you really made it fit you and your style was wonderful. Let's do it again! 😘❤️
Now I have seen all 3 of these videos. I like what you did to the sleeves. I also like the sleeves on the black blouse you are wearing at the beginning. Nice job. IMO, 7969 looks best on smaller busted women. The way to drops straight down from a fuller bust makes the whole body look bigger and less shapely. JMO. You made it work for you with some great styling.
I am happy you had a chance to watch all three videos! And I do agree with you, I think this style does work better on a smaller bust. Which is why I never would’ve chosen this dress pattern for myself if we had not decided on the collaboration. However, I think I made it work for me, and I am happy with the result. It is a very comfortable dress. I am also happy that you left your opinion! And thank you on the compliment on the black top, that is a Vogue pattern that I sewed about a year ago. The sleeve fabric had been a remnant I had found at SR Harris.
Thank you Linda! I think I am most comfortable wearing it with the boots, I feel a little “exposed“ with the white sneakers, even though that is probably a more “youthful“ look. I really enjoy collaborating with those two ladies; it has been a joy getting to know them through the collaborations.
Thank you for the review. I have made two muslins of the bodice trying to get this to fit. I agree it is way to low cut, for me. I have nice fabric for it and I think I will love the dress once I get past the fitting issues. Thanks again 😊
Do what I did! Instead of doing the crossover bodice, just add a seam in the center front. That was the only way I’d be able to wear this. I hope you get your fitting issues figured out and love your dress too!
Hi, Sharon. I tend to forget to check Instagram for pattern reviews. Thanks for the reminder. Minerva does have great fabric, and your fabric is perfect for this dress. Your dress looks great. So glad that you are planning to make more.
Hi T! Thank you for popping over and leaving a comment! Yes, I tend to go to Instagram more often than pattern review now. But I do try and post my review also to pattern review, as it is a helpful site. I love the fabric for this dress, it was flowy and colorful, and I think it helped make it work for me. PS, I am looking forward to our RUclips collaboration in 2021!
I definitely like your changes to the bodice and eliminating the crossover. I’m so down on McCall’s patterns that I don’t think I should sew this, but it is wildly popular. Yours looks great, Sharon!😃
Lovely dress!! I Enjoyed your review, I'm a new subscriber from Jens Sewing Room. Perhaps this dress will change your mind to wearing more dresses. Like you, I never really wore them, but when you're the designer, you can make them casual or dressy to your liking. ...And....in the summertime they can be very much cooler than wearing tops and capris.
Welcome Lena! I am truly delighted that you are here! Isn’t Jen fabulous… I feel so fortunate to have “met“ her through RUclips. I am really looking forward to having a chance to meet her IRL soon. I wore dresses years ago, when I was in the corporate world (back when we had to wear pantyhose with dresses, ugh) And really got away from wearing them. But you are correct! I will probably wear them more often in the summer, and it will be much more comfortable in the Texas heat. Thank you again for subscribing and leaving a comment!
Sharon you are rocking all those looks! Love the boots, leggings, and trainers look. And those sleeves on the top u are wearing are to die for!! It was fun to sew with you and Jen. Great video BTW 🙂✂️🧵
I want to make that shirt with those exact sleeves for a wedding I need to go to. What’s the fabric and did you use a pattern? You are awesome I love your energy and i’m inspired by your prolific sewing!🌸
Love the idea of redrafting and making the front bodice one piece. When you do so, how do you do the neck facing? If you used the same piece, how did you compensate for the v-neck. thanks
Hi Sharon, thanks for this great review. I love the dress on you. I have this pattern, and have been humming and hah-ing about whether or not to make it. Lots of people saying it gapes at the crossover. I love the centre front seam idea. ❤ I'm definitely going to make it now! Can you clarify please, where did you place your 2nd bust dart? Although I think I'd only need the original dart on the pattern, just interested to know.
Omg! You were a cool 14 year old! Also ahead of your time. Today it is rare for girls to be sent to the principals office because of their clothing because of girls like you 😊
Ha ha, I’ve never thought of myself as cool. I thought it was rather dorky. But I think maybe most of us think that of ourselves at that age. I really appreciate your comment! I never even thought about it, but being willing to stand up for certain things does make it better for those that come behind us!
I would love to see how to adjusted the neck and front pieces. I can't wear such a plunging neck line but don't have the skill to adjust that. Small, bust adjustment, is thee such a thing?
Hi! I'm going to create a video showing how I changed the bodice as I get the question often. Just give me a little bit of time as I have to find where I put my pattern! 😬 Yes there is a small bust adjustment! I've never done that adjustment, but it's just opposite of the full bust adjustment - instead of spreading the dart open the extra amount needed you would overlap the excess. I'll see if I can find a good video for you that explains it better than that 😀
I real like the dress on you. I didn’t like the dress on Jen a all. It look to childish on Jen but you are pulling it off . I think the color make the Different and how you style it. It was just there on Jen and I truly love the way she sew. Also I lovely a funky sleeve just like you give me drama to a sleeve any day.
Thank you! I do love a big funky sleeve too ❤️ I think Jen is amazing also, and I think for her lifestyle and where she lives, the dress works for her. That’s the beauty of sewing! We each get to choose the fabric, the color, and the styling that works for us! Thank you for stopping by and for leaving your thoughts! I love hearing everyone’s opinions ❤️
I want to make that shirt with those exact sleeves for a wedding I need to go to. What’s the fabric and did you use a pattern? You are awesome I love your energy and i’m inspired by your prolific sewing!🌸
Thanks! Yes, the pattern I used is McCall's 7969. I did slash and spread the sleeve pattern to make the sleeve fuller. (I show that in the video) The fabric is a Rayon Challis. Thanks for watching!
I LOVE that dress on you!!! I’m 58… and now i want one!
Yes, thanks for the sleeve tip. I love statement sleeves. You look beautiful.
You are so welcome!
You look fabulous in the orange!!
Thanks!
Really like the idea of putting a seam down the middle. Great video.
Thank you!
The importance of your 9th grade sleeves should have been Obvious to that principal!! Lol 😆
Funny story!
Black top gorgeous!
Thanks Gerry!
Oh fun dress! Love the black top with the sleeves!
Thank you Karen! The black top that I am wearing, I sewed it about a year ago. The fabric for the sleeves had been a remnant I found at SR Harris, and I think this was the perfect use for it.
I agree the color is great on you. I loved the modifications you made to the dress. Thank you for sharing how you expanded that sleeve! Great make.

I loved that show too! I hope you like your dress, it’s a very comfortable one to wear.

Such a bright coloured fabric but it looks so good on you. Lovely make x
Thank you! It is indeed a bright fabric color! And helps me continue with my goal for 2020 of not sewing black😂
Really suits your body type. You look fantastic in it
Thank you Jenifer!
I love the outfit you are wearing and the dress and boots. Great video and great inspiration.
Thank you Melissa. I do enjoy wearing the boots with the dress. I think that is how I will wear it most often. Especially during the winter.
I love it Sharon! Very on trend and the color looks great on you👏👏👏
Thank you! Sometimes it pays to try something outside of your comfort zone 😀
The blouse y have on I’d superb as well as the dress 💕🦹🏾♂️👌🏾
Your enthusiasm is wonderful! I Love the top you are wearing !!
Those sleeves are so very pretty 😍

Lovely sew. Thank you for detailing the custom changes. Love love the black tshirt sleeves!
Thank you Theresa! The black T-shirt is a vogue pattern, and I used a mesh knit remnant I found it as SR Harris for the sleeves!
Hey Sharon I usually don't comment but I have to say I really love that shirt you have on in this video. I am going to try it with some other fabrics, because I am sure I won't find the shear fabric. Love your channel
Telly Savalas 'Who loves ya baby'.
Yaaasss! My parents loved that show, and I don’t know why that saying popped in my head when I was shooting the video but it did 😂🤣😂
