In this video, I demonstrate how to fold an Origami Compound of 5 Octahedra designed by Meenakshi Mukerji. This is an excellent modular model, and it's not very difficult to fold! Enjoy the video!
Special thanks to Meenakshi Mukerji for granting me permission to create this video!
Please be sure to check out her latest book called "Exquisite Modular Origami!"

Is it possible to make this without my fist perforating the computer monitor?
Hii
Awesome job Evan - couldn't have been better! Your choice of model is also great because there are some steps where the unit becomes 3D and that's best shown in a video tutorial. I love the way you grey out the finished model and show only one octahedron in color at a time, bringing out the essence of the model! Thanks for making this video with so much care and patience!
Glad to see origami excelling in India as well
Very nice tutorial. You describe the directions very thoroughly and clear. I love watching your tutorials.
Thanks for the tutorial, I enjoy modular origami) It takes a lot of time to fold all the units, but thanks to the tutorial, I remembered the steps. The only one complication was to figure out the pattern and putting in the last unit, took me like 10 minutes))
Used this idea for my uni project making an abstract fashion piece. Couldn't be more thankful! :)
Thank you!!!! Your instructions are fantastic!!! So easy to follow!
I've already made quite a few of the sonobe unit versions, which were quite easy to grasp after a bit of experimentation, however this is extraordinary! i will have to find time to sit down and construct 5 or 6 of these one Saturday afternoon/evening to perfect such an extraordinary model! challenge = accepted.
YOU TAUGHT ME TO DO THIS FOLDING YOU VERY MUCH MY FRIEND I LEARNED FROM YOU!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Thank you Meenakshi, it was wonderful...Ar Sabu Francis asked me to check you and your works on the net.....I am still a beginner ..and an armature...
OK ! Question ! I have on hand regular printing paper of all different colors , its not the same kind of paper as you have but the printing paper in which I have would this work just as well ? ? ?
I have the same book, but mostly confused, Thank you to make it easier a lot than in the book, great job, and thank you
Instructions were easy to follow, as usual. Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic video Evan! I have all of Meenakshi Mukerji's books but I always seem to be able to follow videos better than written instructions. I recall you saying that you had a video lined up that you thought I might like and it certainly doesn't disappoint! :D
Your voice just cracks me up... in a good way..
Amazing video, so clear and easy to follow. Please make more.
Pretty cool tutorial. Well explained and very instructional. Thanks! :)
Fantastic model and teacher!! Thank you, Evan!! Ü
Great job Evan this was an awesome tutorial!
Sehr schöne Stern und super erklärt👍.Dankeschön.Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland.
Great video Evan, I folded this model the other day at a summer camp I was working at. Unfortunately I couldn't get the last piece in properly. I tried to loosen a few of the bits up to slide it in but only got two out of the four sides for the last piece in. I gave up and just hung it with that spike facing the roof!
Folding separate units was slightly difficult but it was assembly that made me give up. In many cases the flaps just won't fit into pockets. I don't see a way to do it.
This triangule logic for the colors does work with another kusudama?
Excellent video. Clear instructions. I'm on my 5th piece and getting better. It would be nice if there were written instructions and pictures as a link as that would be easier to reference than having to forward and reverse through the video each time. Thanks.
Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying the video! Diagrams for this model can be found in Meenakshi Mukerji's book called "Exquisite Modular Origami" and in OrigamiUSA's online magazine, The Fold.
Very very nice tutorial as always! It really is a great model. :)
The last piece is so hard to get innnn!!!!! I made mine with cm square, low density paper...
Folding starts at 0:56 but beware before you start this. THIS WILL TAKE ALONG TIME
thank you it is so clearly instructed. please make more video. thank a bunch
me: "seems easy enough"
also me:(five hours later) screaming of frustration
I DID IT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE HELP!!!!!!
thanks a lot man! you realy help me a lot thanks for your best chanel!
took me 5 tries and 30 minutes to do one at the end "now u do 29 more :)" just like -____- rlly
Personally, I found that part easy. What I can't seem to do is put them together. They keep slipping out. And they turn flat. In the video, the stay nice and raised, but when I try, they flatten.
ya i managed to do it same wth me
Hello and good-bye ooo p I am not EeWa
Use the right paper
YOUR ALIVE YOUR BACK MAKE MORE VIDEOS WE ALL LOVE IT
I think Astrobrights color copy paper is the best choice for this model, as well as the other modular models, due to the sturdiness texture of the paper
Damn this was time consuming as hell ! But i finally finished it and remember how to make the whole thing without watching a video. Doubt I'll ever make another one.
Hello a very cool design ! Question ! I have on hand regular colored printer paper which i have to get more colors , so , the printer paper I have , will this work out just as well ? ? ? Pls respond !
Danny Holmes I tried coloured printer paper and it does work, but it needs to be thin. If it's too thick, it will be difficult to fold it accurately.
Great model.. Superb video.. Just one small request that the valley and mountain folds could be distinguished using dash lines and dash-dot lines..
EzOrigami can you PLEASE make a tutorial of either your fractal star or logarithmic spiral? I would REALLY like to fold one or both of those models. Thanks!
thx for tutorial! I make one and it's looking great!
Where do u get the paper and what is it called
FINALLY... THE EZ HAVE COME TO TO MAKE TUTORIAL
Thank you so much! It's just amazing job!
This video is great ! Can you talk more about the final step ? I have a trouble in that step...
( Sorry about my bad English ... )
This is how all origami tutorials should be
OK ! Been fallowing your tutorial , noticed that you have been drawing the little dashes , question ! Should i be doing the same as far as the putting in the little dashes ? ? ?
Danny Holmes The little lines are just to help see where the creases are in the video, they're not needed in the model.
....and now you must fold 29 more.... XD
Hello Evan, I love all your videos, they are all great! Also, I was trying for about one month to make Daniel Kwan's Three Interlocking Gyroelongated Dipyramids. I never could do it. Is it possible that you make a tutorial on it? That would be AWESOME!!! Anyway, have a good day!
접는게 좀 복잡하네요 열심히 연습해서 작품 만들어야징 자세히 설명주셔서 감사해요 프랑스어로 애기해도 이해가 되네요 ^^
so clear! nicely done.
NOW YOU GOTTA FOLD 29 MORE OH HECK NAH BRO it took me an hour just to figure out to do the first one T_T
Evan: "Now you must fold 29 more.
Me: AHHHHHHH!
Yes thts a super model though the assembly s little bit hard. The most interesting is that with half completed units also u can create some other projects too. Good job and best wishes.
could you please make a tutorial video on how to put it together, i got lost after where you stopped putting it together, it would be very helpful, if you make it, thank you
I've done that before, but i lose track of the way they gotta be put together with them having to make the triangles from 3 of a color
ur alive yeah!!!!! ur awesome
nice job. man that last piece was crazy
Whooh folding just one unit is a lot of work, so many steps. But the finished product is really pretty so I guess it's worth it
Is this not supposed to be symmetrical with the colors? I mean so that in every "star" the colors are in the same order for instance; yellow, orange, pink, blue, green?
Skylark The colouring highlights each octahedron, rather than the same order for each set of 5 pieces.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH This is overloading my brain!!!!!
btw if this is too difficult/ time consuming, look up the octahedral, it's much easier and only requires 12 pieces and is still quite impressive.
Word too big?
Call it the
WHAT-THE-HECK-A-HEDRON!!
I can't believe I have to do that 30 times! Very tough! But at the end of all I have my award!
Dude, Finally, a new Vid.
this is awesome! I subscribed!
you're alive!
Is it okay to use mixed colors instead by forming the desame positions that you maked in the video?
QUE LINDO MEU DEUS ME DEU VONTADE DE FAZER COM PAPEL LAMINADO FICA MUITO LINDO!
Thanks sir. You are amazing :)
I'm gonna make it, but right before I put the last one on, I'm gonna place my mom's mother's day gift inside!
nice, but will your mom ever get the gift?
When you get the good way is really relaxing.

at the bottom of the video did some of the words get auto corrected??
OMFG! I wanna cry but at the same time i wanna do this shit!
This is so easy and fun. You could use it as party decorations.
What type of paper do you use ???

wonderfullll I made it!!!!!!!!
Me: remembering the steps
*Remembers i need to do 30 units 🤯
SOOOOOOO MUCH DETAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAHP IT!!!!!!!!!
Where I can find this paper or something similar. Help!!!!
I used 24lb (89gsm) Astrobrights paper to fold the model in the thumbnail, and I highly recommend it for a model like this. You can find Astrobrights paper at most art or office supply stores.
Thank you!!!!
EzOrigami You should have way more subscribers! You make awesome videos that are so easy to follow!
These folds just keep in"crease"ing!!
this pains me deeply
BA-DUM-TSSS
Can it be any size of paper as long its square?
my least favourite thing to hear in these types of videos are: "now you fold 29 more"... now that just ruins the excitement
That was awesome
I just made the rhombic hexecontahebron. It took 60 units
I loved the tutorial, but unfortunately I don't have any origami paper with me. Could I build this with sticky notes or post it notes? Please respond
Yes
Thank you
oh my god it's very difficult just by looking!
what kind of paper he used
So Good!!!!

Wow that's so cool
IDK about anyone else, but I used different color sticky notes, I'm still working on it so IDK how well it'll go but I'll let you know when I'm done.
