I made mine from 100% hemp denim. I wore it for about 1½ years daily till they got holes, although I used the cheapest 100%hemp denim I could find. Worth it. Normal jeans from the Store I wear out in 8 months (frontpocket holes in about 3 months) If you once tried on hemp jeans, you don't want to wear cotton jeans ever again. (Hemp is like Linen to the touch and gets very soft with washing)
My thighs touch eachother since ever. I wore jeans 30 years ago, LEVIS jeans, not stetchy ones, the 501s. Managed to wear out this part of them in every single pair of them. But I did wear them daily, 24/7 Material can only last this much if being rubbed constantly.🤷♀️Does not depend on quality, really
I have the same problems.. very few jeans fit right and those that I finally found comfy I always use and they get destroyed in my inner tights area. This is a great tip!! :)
This problem is common to those who have sweating happens around inner thigh area and that causes the jeans to torn out easily as the thread becomes weak over that area
Juliet! I LOVE ❤️ this video for 2 reasons: You used my new song, "Unstoppable Me," and at the beginning! (thank you!) AND I seriously need this video. I have some old pants saved in a pile that have this exact problem, and I knew there must be a way to fix it, but I didn't know how. So, thanks!!
Oh man! Girl you are speaking my language. I too have trouble finding jeans that fit well and when I do and go to buy more they are discontinued. I have done this technique to fix chub rub wear in the crotch of my jeans. Except I used the zigzag stitch. I will definitely give your back and forth stitching a try. It looks like it will be an even more secure stitch. I really wish that the designer world would see the struggle that most women and some men have with this issue and reinforce the inner thigh area of our jeans. Thanks for sharing.
I do Japanese mending on my jeans. It looks fancier, but we're talking about a couple of hours of making lots of clean running stitches vs. a few minutes on the machine to get a functionally identical result. I do like to patch the area with bias cut muslin when the material gets thin, that way it's never allowed to completely fail and the material underneath is less bulky. Great tutorial! I might have to go your route now that my work is keeping me too busy to mend my jeans the fancy way.
I do the same using Ankara fabric in the inside and lots of different coloured embroidery thread. It is slower but I put some music or a book on and take my time knowing I’ve got a few more years wear out of the jeans 😀
"I do like to patch the area with bias cut muslin" does that mean you do a denim patch on the inside paired with muslin on the outside, or do you use the muslin on the inside? Newbie sewist here
While I do love, love, love and admire those lovely japanese mending stitches, I want instant solutions and will go with speed over looks anytime. It is my characteristic, that I don't necessarily love or approve, but have accepted it at my ripe age of 46 😂So this video is just what I need.
@@AlannaStarcrossed sorry, just saw this now. It's only the bias cut muslin as a patch. However, I only use it to reinforce a thin area that hasn't failed yet, and apply Japanese style mending to marry the two fabrics. The goal is to make the fabric last until it literally wears all the way through.
That is the first thing I learnt to sew on the machine when I was a teen, because I'd bring my grandma so many pairs of trousers, she just sat me down and showed me how to do it. If the patches wear down again, I usually reinforce them again and cut them off for one more life cycle as summer shorts until they eventually land in the bin.
Juliet, I recognise those jeans as I wear the exact same pair you do for the exact same reason- being curvy. They are the only ones I buy now and are so long lasting too. And I mend my husband's jeans using the same method you've shown here in this video and they last so much longer!
@@JulietUzor_ Yes thank you I have. Its just been a bit difficult settling my daughter into school, she started in September so I've been a bit quiet because it's been so tiring. But things have improved a bit now, Thank goodness 🙏🏼💖
thank you so much for this video. i bought my favorite jeans for $120 earlier this year and hell no was i going to buy another pair just yet. God bless!!
Thank you for this tutorial! I have a stack of thigh hole jeans that fit so well years ago and the brand doesn’t sell them anymore. I’ll be doing this.
A life saving video! I'll certainly try this on my jeans. I always have this issues as I have the same bodytype as you. Finding a comfortable pair of jeans is a hard job so I wear the one's I have a lot.
Perfect! I'm wearing my favorite jeans right now and just noticed they're about to rip in the inner thigh. Just need to grab some blue thread! Thank you!
I wish I had found your video on yesterday sweetie because I just added a patch to my grandson’s jeans but didn’t go back and forth so now I know. Thank you for sharing 💕
I have the same! but this hack works for but a few weeks so I then cut them into tiny shorts haha, and wear them short for vacay. buuuuut.... I now have about 10. I go through two ASOS Farleigh mom jeans a year (the mist jeans last! with any other brand it's about 3 months).
Hi Juliet, great video thank you. Yes I too have a favourite pair of jeans that I wear non stop and also had to mend at the exact same place. BTW I got my iron pad and it works like a dream. Loving your videos. Remain blessed xxx
I have the same problem! And not just with jeans. I have yet to find a bra that fits well at all. I have to make it tailor dresses in order to get any to fit decently as well. Thank you for this!
My favorite black athletic knit pants has 6-inch long holes from the friction of my upper thighs, and I've been wearing black pant liners to conceal the holes. This particular pants is no longer on the market, so have decided to try and sew up the holes before they get worse. Thank you.
Thanks thanks thanks. I have been wearing my legging since August because I don't have time to shop, or sew! I am a mature student, single mother a of 5 year old! You saved me😅
Thanks for this! I have this problem with everything and I also struggle to find things that fit 😭 I don't have a machine though, would I just do the same kind of process but painstakingly by hand? 😂
Thank you for your video. Yes, I am like you and my jeans wear in the same way. May I ask, after you do this repair do you find it in anyway uncomfortable to your inner thigh? Do you find the repair lasts a good amount of time? Just curious. I'm not good at sewing, but I am certainly willing to give this a try. (Thank you!)
I know this is an older vid... but I'm finding the 'rough' and 'raised' sections of fabric/thread and possibly toucher area of fabric are creating rubbing/hot spots on my inner thighs... Any recommendations how to fix this? I was thinking of just getting some fusible mesh fabric to go over the stitching on the inside but I'm worried that it may just make the rubbing problem worse.
I’ll try this! I got a pair of jeans that I painted sunflowers on after staining them and the thighs eventually got worn out too much but I can’t bear to throw them out 🥲 I kept thinking if I should just cut out the flowers and repurpose those pieces but maybe this would work so I can still wear them as pants! And yes god the eternal search for well fitting jeans is a struggle
I can relate to what you say. Curvy people find it difficult to get the right fit and when we do we want it to last but then this inner thigh ripping is real spoiler. I've will try this kinda patching n stitching now.
How do the stitches not itch on your thighs? Genuinely asking. I have pants that need this kind of fixing but I'm nervous that they'll be uncomfortable.
Is there any solution to this problem? Certain type of jeans this won't happen to? Mine don't last 6 months and diy patch extends life by 6 more months at max
Thanks for this. I don’t have a sewing machine so this is still not possible for me. My wear tends to be a big lower in the thigh. I wonder if you dye your jeans after the mending it would also hide the (cotton) thread and lighter fabric?
I've dyed a pair of jeans once before. I bought them because I loved the fit but hated the color and they didn't have another option left. There are great tutorials on you tube of how to dye jeans. Using the RID navy and black dye works well for dark jeans. But a test fabric first if you're concerned about getting a certain color. I like indigo jeans most so the navy & black dyes work well to get that. My first try didn't come out exactly as I wanted but they still looked good and much better than light washed jeans. I've heard it works well to refresh older faded jeans too so it would probably help match repair threads just fine.
I get that you seen a patch on the inside of jeans but you still see rip marks on the outside of jeans. How do you cover that so if your walking no one sees the rip?
I know this is an older vid but i hope you answer this.. does it not show from the behind? Like i am a lil embarassed to get that patchwork done bc i think it will show from the behind and would look really terrible.
I was told to do an inner thigh adjustment to my patterns to prevent this. It means the jeans don't have enough room for your inner thigh flesh. Add a diamond shaped gusset to the inner thigh like deer leggings have. When you get the jeans. Of course wide leg is back so those usually have room. I'm going to try it on some old skinny jeans or straight leg jeans.. Manufacturers don't make jeans to fit real women. Just saying.
But how do you run the jeans through the machine without sewing through the other side of the leg? I can't figure that out so I've been hand sewing and it falls apart the 1st wear. 😔
First step..need a sewing machine! 😞 i do everything by hand lol. I very rarely wear jeans, i find them too tight around my tummy and make me feel squished, these jeans are skinny but stretchy and WONT throe them away....any tips for by hand sewing?
I keep feeling shit about my jeans wearing out because my thighs are kinda t h i c c but I don't think I should feel bad about this and instead just learn to maintain my pants.
