Before making one, PLEASE go see what Artis Opus (has his own dry brush line and is widely considered the Dry Brush Guy) says about these. They trap dust and crap, and are HORRIBLE for your brush and paint quality.

Yes I may have to get one and do a comparison as it seems a lot more information has come out since I made this video. This may still be useful for those on a very tight budget if they have these materials at hand. Thank you for the comment brother.

Thank you so much. I thought it'd be better to have them side by side for the comparison

Go for it! As some others have said in the comment section I'd recommend checking out some of the proper texture palettes and the downsides of making your own (which I didnt mention in the video at the time)

I'd recommend doing some reading on them as well. But they would definitely be useful for if you're weathering a bot!

Funny enough I've just started painting again and done my first project. The first thing I noticed was the unpredictable random 'clumps' I was getting with my dry brushing. I was either using too much or too little paint and it was annoying... This texture palette would allow me to check the result before I hit the live model. So YES it is definitely worth it.

Sounds good. I still use mine every now and then so I don't ruin my models with the clumps of tissue paper. Even though I don't do a lot of dry brushing I'm glad to have this available for when I do! Thanks for watching

You probably shouldn't get that much paint into your brush for drybrushing; what gets up in the belly of the brush is wasted, it won't go anywhere no matter how much the brush gets loaded, you only need paint on the tip of your bristles for drybrushing since it's not gonna be flowing off the paintbrush. Less paint added, less paint to remove, less paint wasted, and it's easier to clean your brush afterwards too! The difference in results comes not from the palette but from the moisture added to the brush - which is really good advice, despite the name you don't actually want your brush to be dry!

Don't you cover the entire texture palette very quickly? Do you have to keep washing it?

nope, too many people think that doing a dry brush palette with large objects is a good thing ... a textured surface is all that is needed, not a battlefield base with massive detail

For way less than the price of all the miniatures I'd have to buy to get all of the leftover bits to make a textured pallet, I bought one on Etsy.

Fair enough buddy, you don't have to use miniatures for the palette. I used bits of a fidget toy, sprue bits and stuff I had around the house. Thanks for watching :)
