Looks pretty fun! I'm always torn between gravel and road bikes. On the one hand, I love the pleasure of speed and generally high average tempo on road bikes. On the other hand, gravel bikes are great for pure experience of nature and dropping all the pressure to perform in terms of Watts, KOMs, average speed etc. you get so easily dragged into when riding road bikes.
I do. Both sets are great and Hunt have excellent customer service / after sales care. Wheels can be run with quick release, 12 it 15mm axles and conversion kits are reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
thx for the comparison. Some of that extra bit of cush is more likely attributed to the larger 38mm tire you were running on the carbon rims. If tires were identical then we can make a better head to head. Cheers, enjoying your vids
Love the grc 1400 wheels but unfortunately my front wheel has an crack in the rim. Very strange because it’s only used on road and mild gravel. Especially for a wheelset of that price... Currently in Swiss for examination. Hope they will replace it under guarantee 🤞🏻
1.5 - 2.5 bar should be perfect for sand on tubeless ires. The issue you had was down to the tread pattern of the Vittorias you mounted, great for the majority of your ride but not for sand. Have fun on your bike packing trip, can't wait to see the video.
Thx for that. Come from mtb and bought my first gravel bike. A 2021 Specialized Diverge Elite E5, cause its has an ultra variable aluminum frame with all the mounting options you need or don't 😂. But of course the basic bikes don't have nice wheelsets... Looking forward to a dt Swiss set, because their quality is just awesome.
@@naj114 I choose custom made dt swiss wheels with 240s and Rr481 rims. Depends on your budget and preferences. They weight 1600g...so save easy 400g rolling weight. But I still like the look of the dt swiss GRC 1400 wheels.. They weight the same, but I like these rim design on gravel bikes a lot. Ofc it's just luxury.
I have similar wheels for xc riding mostly on similar terrain - only more hills. In my experience the benefits of the carbon rims offroad get soeket by lees speed (because speed is needend for aero benefits) . i can not confirm "vibration dampening" - benefits offroad though there are some bigger bums are better soeked by alloy bulit wheels they are more "fun" offroad. - and certainly for the wallet !!!! as you can build your own alloys for 350 euro usung dt 350 hubs, so you can build 4-5 sets for one carbon. On a road bike its different - indeed high end carbon rims perform and "feel" incredible here. Only i can imagine your "light gravel" coditions are different to my 29er MTB terrain besides the illusory "BLING" effect of the carbon rims..-..
Goede vergelijking!
I live in Amsterdam and would love to get that route from you. Also, been looking at these same wheels and the CRC1400’s. I think this helped me make a decision. Fun video!
I just bought some Syncros capital 1 35s (21mm internal width 35mm high) mistaking them for the x40s.... Would it be a bad idea to take these out on gravel?
Sorry but tour comparison is pointless : not the same tires, not the same pressure... That's where the comfort difference comes from ! Carbon wheels for gravel is just bling in my opinion. I personnaly own the DT CR1600 on my CX bike and they are great, but carbon on cyclocross and gravel is a nonsense to me. Your video and filming is excellent by the way ! I enjoyed it !
Hey, awesome video, was the final push for me to get the GRC1400s :) Just received them today! Have you been running the Vittoria Terreno Dry on the rims the whole time? I just got mine installed, but saw something on the tyre that they aren't made for hookless, so was wondering what your position on that is...
You should look on hooked / hookless because of security. Only hookless tires on hookless rims otherwise the tires does not stay firm on the rim and probably can drop off , espacially with low pressure!
Thanks :) I've used up to 38mm tires on the 22mm wide rims the bike came with, but with these 24mm wide rims I had to switch to 35m in the rear. There was plenty of space still in the front fork, but not enough in the back for the 38mm tires.
Hi :-) Good video and good presentation :-). Based on your video, I bought a set of GRC 1400, but ran into problems choosing tires. On the Vittoria Terreno Zero TL 700x35 it says "Mount only on hooked rims", the same thing on the Conti Grand Prix 5000TL. In your video you mount Vittoria Terreno Dry, but is it not also only for hooked rims? Which tire does DT Swiss recommend for this wheel set for road and gravel? Kristian :-)
@@Fernwee I do not have that either, but my question was, Vittoria writes "Not for hookless rims" on their tires therefore, which tire can be used on Dt Swiss GRC 1400?
DT SWISS are really nice wheels but they are making them so heavy. 1611gr for 2k€ you can spend 1500€ or less and build with sapim spring DT hubs and be below 1400 gr very easy … they also should sell their rims for builds as many people likes the brand 😊

amazing the crap wheels you get for that price. I build my own wheels, and I can easily get much cheaper prices and weights than this dt swiss rip off.

Hunt make some great wheels. I have the 4 Seasons and the Gravel Extra Wides. Both aluminium, both pretty light - 1500-1700g, both very well priced.
I was thinking about getting some of those 4 seasons. Do you still like them?

I believe, fat slicks ("Balloon" in Schwalbe's terminology) are best for sand races.
2.5 bar is the pressure on my car's wheels. Are you riding fat (+10 cm) tires?
