As a Registered Behavioral Technician, I work with special needs kids for a living. I have NEVER lost sight of my special needs kid, especially on a bus. Even on field trips, I sit next to my client on the bus, make sure he/she has all of their preferred reinforcers, noise-cancelling headphones if the ride is too loud, and that his/her AAC device is in working condition. It is her JOB as a bus aide to ensure this child's safety & dignity. She was negligent for not checking her properly, not sitting NEXT to her, putting her earbuds in, AND being on her phone.
She is NOT remorseful and NOT holding herself accountable for her actions! Shame on you lady!

Well... IF it's true that the family did not properly strap the child then they are responsible too. It is the parents responsibility to properly and safely strap the child. If it had been a car seat and the parent didn't properly strap the child and during an accident that caused the child to suffer injury or death that parent would be charged with negligence maybe even child abuse. Obviously in this case the Aide was responsible for the child and should have taken her job seriously. She deserves her punishment. The parents aren't allowed on the bus! Thats adding insult to injury to say it was their fault. NO the parents entrusted their precious child into schools care. To have footage of her not even attempting to make sure the baby was secure and then to be able to watch her negligence and still not find her guilty is why people are taking the law into their own hands. Then the attorney says she could barely hold it together. Spare me with the bullcrap because si didnt see not a tear nor a look of remorse. We are not there to care and protect them. When things like this happen and we loose our child because of someone else’s negligence is so frustrating. I blame the company as well, for not training their staff to deal with students with medical issues. If these students don’t have nurses or paraprofessional in the bus, they don’t get the attention needed on the bus ride typically. They are just treated like typical children on the school bus. She should have just sat next to her just for ease of access 🤦🏾‍♂️.

She needs to be in jail. The bus driver is responsible for harnessing the child in the seat. She shouldn’t be on her phone when a child is in her bus. Period. I know several bus drivers who worked in this same capacity. This is appalling and tragic. She also needs to be banned from working with children.

If she was next to the child or at least turned around to check on her, she may still be alive. I don’t think she should get 20 years, but she definitely should do some time and never be able to work with kids again🤷🏾‍♀️

The more I see and hear of these tragedies, the more I'm convinced that the best care a child can ever receive are with their loved ones, hardly every from some strangers that are just doing a "job".

Blaming the mother for her not being buckled in the stroller properly? Lady, the whole reason you are there is for the safe transportation of the disabled child. YOU are supposed to double-check that she is good to go. You should have sat next to her, watching her, you are supposed to watch her that is why you are there on the bus! Standing there over the dead child flipping her hair. Twisting side to side with a smirk on her face while the judge is talking gross.

Listen, even if I felt like I didn’t cause this, if this was me I would be torn apart by grief that a poor innocent helpless child died while in my care. While I was responsible. While I was sitting feet away! She hasn’t even cried for the child. She hasn’t even apologized profusely that a child is DEAD! She hasn’t even shown the least bit of humility. She’s almost disgustingly indignant. Shame, shame, shame!!!

This is so maddening, that's not even a good word, disgusting is more like it.. as an aid myself with special needs kids, this is devastating to hear, she should have been found guilty on all accounts. If it were me, it never would be because my kids mean the world to me and I would never let this happen, but if it were me and one of my kids died on my watch, I'd never be able to live with myself, I'd be begging for punishment. I feel so terribly for the mom, there are no words for how horrible this is
