This music video is from their 5th studio album "Once" (2004), then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya], the 1st female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen] from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Tuomas asked Tarja to sing for their demo album but he didn’t know that Tarja's voice had grwon since he last heard her sing (they have known each other since they were kids).... so when Tuomas heard her sing he thought Tarja's voice was too powerful for their music hence he decided to form Nightwish as a metal band to support Tarja's bigger voice. I definitely hope that you continue with Nightwish, with all their singers. They have had 3. This was Tarja Turunen, after her came Anette Olzon and now their singer is Floor Jansen. Nightwish hasn't broken up, there just has been a lot of changes in the line up of the band. And currently they are taking a break from performing.... though they are making their new album which will be their 10th album.

Great reaction! You ain't heard nothin yet! Their live stuff is best, better than any band I've seen in person over the past 50 years that I've been a metal head. I've been a NW fan for 25 years. They took over the first place spot from The Who, my previous favorite. Enjoy the journey. 😃

Tarja , our dark queen🖤 I love her so much, her solo career even more than when she was in Nightwish. On Friday, I was at the big four-day rock festival, where she had her concert after dark. She is an amazing performer, with a wonderful voice and enormous charisma. Wish I Had an Angel is one of the most iconic songs from her era in Nightwish. Together with the demonic Marko, they make a great metal couple. You should definitely try Phantom of the Opera, the official live DVD version, from her last concert with Nightwish End of an Era. They are amazing there with Marko (the male singer). From her solo career, I recommend Victim of Ritual from the Woodstock festival. Tarja studied classical singing at university in Finland and Germany. She is a lyric soprano. Today she devotes hemself to rock, classical and electronic music. She has released 5 solo rock albums, a dark Christmas album (from which the beautiful gothic music video O Tannenbaum comes), a classical album and more recently Outlanders, the first album with electronic music. She organizes rock and classical concerts around the world and still takes singing lessons. Marko also left Nightwish not long ago, due to depression. He reconciled with Tarja after many years and a few weeks ago they sang together again like old friends. It was an amazing gift for the fans. Nightwish was supposed to be an acoustic band. But founder, sole songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas came to Tarja's house, whom he had known since childhood, and asked her to sing a demo. He did not know that she had just started studying classical singing and was greatly surprised by the strength of her voice in the studio. They decided to support her voice with powerful instruments and make Nightwish a metal band. This was the beginning of a new subgenre of metal and the world's biggest symphonic metal band. Tarja was with them for 9 years and helped them get to the top. She was 19 when Nightwish was formed, Tuomas was a year older. Tarja is still one of the biggest female icons in metal, mainly in Europe and South America. Her voice and Tuomas's music were pure magic. When the older Marko joined into the group, the concept of Beauty & the Beast, which played a big role in Tarja's first era in Nightwish, was only emphasized. Tarja has recorded 5 albums with Nightwish, Anette 2 albums and Floor (their current singer) also two albums, the third is to be released next year. With each female singer, Nightwish changed its sound. With Tarja it was more power and gothic metal. Anette added a more pop element, and with Floor, Nightwish's music goes as far as folk or film music. But Nightwish transcends genres and is hard to define. Their music keeps changing. I will also recommend the song Ghost Love Score again from the End of an Era concert. It has very deep lyrics, but this can only be fully appreciated with knowledge of the band. It's a beautiful song in its own right, I loved it even without knowing the lyrics. New fans will know the version by Floor from Wacken festival. My favorite is the original version composed for Tarja's voice. Both versions are very different, but it is one of Nightwish's most popular songs. It's great to know both. With Tarja it is a melancholic and longing song, with Floor it has a more joyful tone. Many fans think that this is a song composed by Tuomas for Tarja at the end of everything. End of an Era version from the Nightwish channel has the option to turn on subtitles. Many fans are still fighting over who is the better singer for Nightwish, Floor or Tarja. And it's a completely unnecessary war, because each of them is unique, with a different voice and charisma. Without Tarja, Nightwish wouldn't exist, it wasn't a metal band and it wouldn't have reached the top and without Floor it wouldn't be where it is today. If you ever do reactions to other Nightwish songs, be sure to avoid comparing which one is better. Trust me, it's a road to hell 😄 Nightwish didn't break up, they just announced a long hiatus from touring. But fans fear it's over.

In general NW is best heard live. I particular with Tarja here or the current singer Floor . Annette, is best heard in studio versions or singing the songs written for her. I would also suggest listening Ito Tarja's vast solo career. There's a possibility of the band being broken, time will tell. The only remaining original member is Tuomas. Floor will be on hiatus soon to have her child. Marko and Tarja recently reunited to sing Phantom of the Opera together for the first time in 18 years. You may want to check out their end of an Era version of Phantom as it's Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite version.

I'm sure many others will have recommendations for you song-wise, but my tip for you is that Nightwish lyrics are uncommonly poetic and if you want lyrics included in the video, oftentimes the videos posted to the Nightwish RUclips channel have the song lyrics within the close captioning (the "CC" button on any given video's control bar), and if the one on the Nightwish RUclips doesn't have lyrics, usually the same video posted on the record label's site will have the lyrics. For example, the label's "Ghost Love Score" live video at ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html has lyrics, while the same video at ruclips.net/video/47e_961OQWE/видео.html does not. No they haven't broke up. Macro has left due to frustration with the music industry. But as I understand it his relationship with the actual band members is good. Their drummer left due to health reasons and hand picked his own replacement and is still active In a behind the scenes position. Their 3rd and current lead singer is I'm guessing 7-9 months pregnant and had to cancel all of their remaining shows recently due to health. They have said they will not be touring with their next album which is due to be released in 2024. They haven't said if this will be their last album or if they'll do more tours in the future but there will be at least 1more album coming out.
You said a couple of things that make me 100% sure you'll like the 3 songs I'm gonna recommend. You like female vocals with a rougher sound and you liked Marco's vocals. These 3 Nightwish songs will hit both of those preferences perfectly. This song is with Nightwish's 1st lead singer Tarja. The 3 I'm recommending are with their 3rd lead singer Floor. 1. Your's is an Empty Hope from Wembly 2015 2. Ghost River from Wacken 2013 3. Romanticide from Wacken 2013

Not most successful track for first introduction to band, with Tarja's classic vocals, and there is almost no symphonic part in this song. Song is very good to listen to, but after another song, which would reveal true sound of Nightwish's melodic symphonic metal.

@@okhereisthestory I guess I won't be original if I say it's best to start with Ghost Love Score song. It perfectly demonstrates beauty of symphonic metal and professionalism of band members. I think it is a kind of a benchmark, Bohemian Rhapsody in symphonic metal genre. Studio version of this song is beautiful and it has some differences from live versions ruclips.net/video/8gkBvlECGi8/видео.html . Also there are two most popular live versions of this song. First one with original vocalist Tarja (classical vocals) ruclips.net/video/YODCM26JXOY/видео.html and second one with third vocalist Floor ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html. These live versions of song are also different, Tarja version is dominated by choir and orchestra, Floor version emphasizes more on Floor's vocals and choir is much more muted. If you are interested in this band you can listen to two vocalists at same time, they are both very strong. I like Tarja more (probably because I've been listening to this band since 1998), many others (especially new fans) have Floore as their favorite. It's a matter of taste. But this is an awesome, special band, many people fall in love with their music and songs after listening to them.

No they haven't broke up. Macro has left due to frustration with the music industry. But as I understand it his relationship with the actual band members is good. Their drummer left due to health reasons and hand picked his own replacement and is still active In a behind the scenes position. Their 3rd and current lead singer is I'm guessing 7-9 months pregnant and had to cancel all of their remaining shows recently due to health. They have said they will not be touring with their next album which is due to be released in 2024. They haven't said if this will be their last album or if they'll do more tours in the future but there will be at least 1more album coming out.

You said a couple of things that make me 100% sure you'll like the 3 songs I'm gonna recommend. You like female vocals with a rougher sound and you liked Marco's vocals. These 3 Nightwish songs will hit both of those preferences perfectly. This song is with Nightwish's 1st lead singer Tarja. The 3 I'm recommending are with their 3rd lead singer Floor.

Not most successful track for first introduction to band, with Tarja's classic vocals, and there is almost no symphonic part in this song. Song is very good to listen to, but after another song, which would reveal true sound of Nightwish's melodic symphonic metal.

@@okhereisthestory I guess I won't be original if I say it's best to start with Ghost Love Score song. It perfectly demonstrates beauty of symphonic metal and professionalism of band members. I think it is a kind of a benchmark, Bohemian Rhapsody in symphonic metal genre. Studio version of this song is beautiful and it has some differences from live versions ruclips.net/video/8gkBvlECGi8/видео.html . Also there are two most popular live versions of this song. First one with original vocalist Tarja (classical vocals) ruclips.net/video/YODCM26JXOY/видео.html and second one with third vocalist Floor ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html. These live versions of song are also different, Tarja version is dominated by choir and orchestra, Floor version emphasizes more on Floor's vocals and choir is much more muted. If you are interested in this band you can listen to two vocalists at same time, they are both very strong. I like Tarja more (probably because I've been listening to this band since 1998), many others (especially new fans) have Floore as their favorite. It's a matter of taste. But this is an awesome, special band, many people fall in love with their music and songs after listening to them.
