Once a season, the Venice Simplon Orient Express takes you on a dream trip from Paris to Istanbul via Vienna, Budapest and Bucharest with a stopover in a luxury hotel
The VSOE Venice Simplon Orient Express of the Belmond Ltd hotel group, a subsidiary of LVMH, has for Europe 16 continental wagons formerly CIWL (Compagnie Internationale des Wagons Lits) of types S1, LX, Ytb Blue modified with the comfort of current standards with air conditioning and bogies modified to reach speeds of 160 km/hour. The 10 Lit LX cars from 1929 (CIWL 3473, 3482, 3483, 3525, 3539, 3543, 3544, 3552, 3553, 3555) as well as the YTb cars from 1949 (CIWL 3912 and 3915) were modified in the Netherlands. The 2 dining cars (CIWL 4095 and 4110) from 1927 were restored in Belgium in the CIWL workshops, the Lorraine-Dietrich wagons were given special care, 2 S1 sleeping cars (CIWL 3309) from 1927 and (CIWL 3425) of 1929 modified to accommodate three large suites, with eccentricities such as the dining car (CIWL 3674) modified to a Bar car and the Pullman Restaurant car modified to a Pullman WSP saloon (CIWL 4141) of 1929 with bar champagne which never existed in the original composition of the Orient Express.
For its part, SNCF and the Accord Group plan to revive the legendary Vrai Orient Express for Paris 2024 thanks to the 17 CIWL cars currently undergoing historic restoration. Found in 2016, these LX type luxury cars including the S1 built by Lorraine-Dietrich in the 1920s and 1930s belonging to the Nostalgia-Istanbul-Orient-Express were parked on a siding somewhere between Poland and Belarus . Please note that these cars, classified as Historic Monuments, will be equipped with an Art Deco movement combining modern technology.
