It was cool of him to call everyone in and tell them what was going on and make sure they all knew where their survival suits were. And he also went below deck himself and worked on the problem. Idk if a captain could have handled it any better than that
He's the captain. That's his JOB. Everyone's safety is HIS responsibility. That's just a good captain.
@Mike burner Yeah definitely, would be the right thing to do for sure. But to be fair, they could have done that off camera, or not put that part in the show. But im sure if they did film it, they probably would have put it in the show im sure. Discovery loves their drama.. lol
I’m sure he made a general radio call of his location, heading, and situation that he is dealing with:
@Mike burner They do cut a lot of footage out from what the camera crews record. I bet their is some recorded footage that has him making that call.
How do you know if he didn't radio it in? You only see what Discovery wants you to see.
Jake always looks like he’s either unbelievably stressed, or running on 1 hour of sleep. Jake is a captains captain.
Ask who was his teacher that is why. I think Sig must be proud of Jake.
Yep he has a ton of heart attacks to look forward to and an early death that's for sure, a proper captains captain alright!
@@Jessebella1 that’s if the first doesn’t get him
@@Illness.og. Yep, is it worth it? Looking 57 when you are 30, and all that other stuff. It aint is it
@@Jessebella1 definitely not, aged terribly.
I really am impressed by Jakes level of professionalism and respect. The kid also knows what hes doing! and he can do everything!
I'd be honored to work on his ship under his command 💯
Jake grew up from a young greenhorn to an old Salty Captain of his own ship Fisherman.
MAD RESPECT To Jake Anderson.
Yea pretty crazy. I still remember when he started and he was whining to Sig about how fellow deckhands were teasing him. I thought he wasint gonna last long but look at him now. He is Sig 2.0
started from the bottom now we here
Got to respect a captain that not only informs his crew on how dangerous this is , but also fixes the problem himself hands on . Perfectly handled there.
Jake has come a long way
Was thinking the same thing!!!
He looks very old
@@sergiotovar9918 Cigerettes are killing him, just like Captain Harris.
Eh, not really. I'm sure he lives closer to the port given how often he sails
Ipsc Erik
I remember when Jake needed a hall pass to go crabbing.
Haven't watched this show in years. Jake looks like he's aged a 1000 years.
@Mark Wilson probably the stress of running a crab boat
Thats the stress of being a skipper for ya.
He aged in dog years 😂
@Mark Wilson Eating food also slowly kills. The digestive activities put a lot of strain on the body.
didnt he also have a drug problem he overcame?
It's cool to see Jake's progression man I remember when he was a deckhand on the northwestern
Working his ass OFF to get that hoodie. My mans wanted that bad, started stripping clothes on deck to show he can hang with the big dogs
Wow the years of smoking have really screwed his voice up. Doesn't even sound like the Jake from The Northwestern.
Sounds like the late Capt. Phil Harris!
He yells a lot as well.
Jake is really impressive. When there’s a big issue it always seems like he is the one tackling it and risking himself than asking one of his crew members.
You have to respect that Jake will do the dangerous shit himself instead of risking someone else getting hurt.
immediately pulls crew, tells them exactly what happened, makes sure they all know where their suits are, where the rafts are.
Then goes down tot he engine room to face the dangerous problem.
a true captain.
To do that and seas like that is insane. Mad props to the whole crew but, Jake pulled thru and saved his crew and his boat that’s what it takes as Captain 💯🤘
I remember when Jake was a green deck hand. He said it, "I'm going to be a Captain." No ifs or buts about it, he made it work and stuck with it. Hard work pays off kids. Jake is a walking example of that.
I remember Captain Jakes very first day ever crabbin on the Northwestern as a greenhorn .. He has come a long way .. That's what hard work will get you every time .. Way to go Jake.
I remember too. But look who were his teachers.
It's good that Jake heard the noise and it didn't happen when a mate was on wheel watch and wouldn't have known there was a problem.
I've been working on fishing boats for years and I was taught to check the engine room regularly and also check any strange noises.
damn dude, that was insane, this guy deserves every dollar he gets
Nie to see Jake coming through, he worked hard and always is in-tune with his crew.
Very impressive. He immediately troubleshoots the issue, finds a temporary solution and instead of going back to work he makes the decision to turn back and find a permanent solution. Never put yourself and the crew at risk for more money. That’s true leadership.
I recall when Jake got his Northwestern jacket a LONG time ago. Look at him now - manning up to every challenge. Good on him.
The level of professionalism displayed in the wheel house was beyond reproach. That is how you save lives.
We need more young men like Captain Jake . His story is a true inspiration.
So proud of him. Fan since he was a greenhorn.
I like Jake, I've watched this young man grow up on the show. The stress of the job and crabbing sure does take a toll on a man. God bless Jake and stay Sharp
I have a rule. Never ask someone do do something you would not do. Jake obviously had the same rule. Took real guts to get in there and do that.
Respect the man got out the captains chair and went
Down and saved his boat and crew
Jake's wheelhouse looks awesome now with those new purple lights. He's a really great captain. He clearly cares and is concerned for people's safety and well being. Better than most of the other captains.
I didn't think Jess Pinkman would last long in Alaska. I hope his fishing boat venture works out for him.
Lol
He looks nothing like jesse pinkman?
@@Jacob-sb3su Get some glasses.
1:54 he laughs exactly like sig
We call those Posers
Jake has earned and grown into the position/man/leader he is now. Great to see
Jake handled that like a boss. Good job.
Been watching it all - every season! Seeing how Jake progress in life is simply an amazing journey - This man has been through hell and back - I have no doubt when saying Edgar Hansen has a huge role in how Jake has turned out as a fisherman - He knows it all - Can fix it all - Just like Edgar!
More outstanding leadership by capt Jake. Just awesome. I was in the navy 25 years and would be proud to qirk fir a guy like Jake.
I never thought i'd say these words but... That paint job on this crabbing ship is badass.
So good to see Jake back
Now thats a captain you have to respect, knows whats hes doing and aint scared to get his hands dirty.
Jake has turned into a top notch leader and captain .
Well done, Jake, you’re becoming a legend, I hope you read this comment someday.
I would like to see a video of what the other captains had to say about what Jake did. I think it was the only thing he could do to band aid the boat to get back home
I remember his first day as a greenhorn, time sure flys! Glad he made his dream come true as a captain! 👍🏼👍🏼
As the sister in law of the mother of my ex's step daughter said once, stupid crabs.
Wise words, wise words
😂😂😂😂😂
Zac is one big nerve rack. His demeanor makes me nervous from the get go LMFAOO
Respect to the skipper. Vessel and crew safety over cashflow and crab.
You couldn't pay me enough to do this work!!!
I was on the M/V Gordon Jensen (so you can google the size) and my God bro sometimes I had to strap myself to my bunk just to get shut eye and not fall off the bunk. My hat is off to all these guys that get repair work done in those tiny boats that move a hell of a lot more.
Damn I remember the first episode where jake was coming on to the northwestern as a greenhorn.
Jake is a true pro.
Jake seems like a guy if he tells you to do something, it's based on experience and you can trust the word. Which comes from actually doing the work and knowing your job in and out. It's all I could ask for from a boss.
Hats off to jake on this!!! Hes earned his pats on the back
I was on the f/v Northern Voyager and she sank about 5 miles out of Gloucester Mass in the late 90’.
I was 18. Lost the rudder with no way to patch the hole.
Glad you made it man dam that had to be scary .
Mass gang
I have a question about that temporary fix they did to keep the pipe from moving up or down. Couldn't they do beforehand to prevent a major catastrophe like that from happening? It seems like a simple fix.
@@mumble97 prob did this for drama
@@mumble97 they obviously didn't know about this until we saw this
This might be my favorite clip from the show so far....
Maximum respect to Jake.
Jake can run my cod boat anytime! Great captain! 😎👍🏻💰
The Captain has to be the best engineer. This is why he's Skipper.
We have literally watched some of the kids grow up on TV. Josh Harris, Jake Anderson, and a few others. Amazing
In a pinch you can also steer with the engines, as it is a twin screw.
but that doesn't make for good television. :-|
U can but if the rudder post breaks off entirely u will be doomed
Our cabin cruiser has 2 screws and it’s super helpful when the wind is blowing and you can just turn in place
@@pinrenng8162 not true. They could easily plug the hole and steam in with the second Rudder
@@Mad.Man.Marine Easily? If the rudder post dropped through the hole then you would have a 8 - 10 inch hole in the bottom of your boat allowing a huge amount of freezing water to enter the compartment. I know the Royal Navy train to plug breaches like that and I am sure its the case for most navies around the world. These are not sailors intensely drilled and trained for such situations. I thnk under the circumsatnces Jake's bodge job was pretty well done.
Jake's a hell of a skipper.
good thing captain Anderson caught that before it became an emergency situation or worse broke right off
Jake is the man! I haven’t seen this show since 2008… He’s a cap now.. Wow
Jake, I pray for you bro..You've been knocked down and it's awsome to see how thing's have worked out for you.. God bless you brother, be safe, good fishing!!🙏🙏
useless religious bs
Good emergency fix!
You gotta do what you gotta do to limp it home.
Lost a rudder on a small tugboat. Luckily the rudder post was above deck and steered it with lifeboat. Little ole Mississippi River. Still stressing
respect to Jake
Haven't watched in years. Jake looks like hes doing great now. Aged for sure, but he's on top of shit it appears. Good problem solving in this clip.
RIGHT!!! I remember when he worked with Sig and his brother...🙂
Jakes turned out to be a helluva man
Captain Jake is the man
Man it's amazing how Jake was a greenhorn on sigs boat not knowing anything starting as a green horn Edgar picked on now look at Jake hes a damn captain he's come a long long way and has busted his ass to get to being captain of his own boat the saga I'm sooo proud of Jake I have watched deadliest catch for years back when Phil Harris was alive and man the fleet has changed Soo much
Great bit of thinking on your feet
Well that's a shame scary stuff especially during the middle of a storm!
For people don’t understand this issue if you can’t steer the boat into the waves a big wave can come and capsize the boat. A damaged rudder is not good same thing with planes
He can still steer the boat with the engines and drive it like a tank.On my boat I use my rudders for ships wheel trim so you know where on the wheel straight is, and my engines for steering.
The biggest danger isn't losing the rudder, it's losing the whole post and leaving a gaping hole in the boat that can sink it. Boats have gone down with that kind of problem before. Jake handled it very well.
Turning out to be one fine Captain he is
Jake has really become a strong Captain.
Seems like there should already be something tethering that post.
He handled it extremely extremely professional like
That was a pro "on the spot" fix like that. #Impressed.
love these things, there's a video of the problem, but the skipper dint know what I was till he sent someone down into the engine room
Some scenes may be filmed for dramatic effect...
Also the rudder post is designed not to fall out. It would also be super boring just watching them drive the boat and crabing, so they have to break up the boring with something exciting.... this show is just crap.....
I was thinking about how this seemed unlikely to affect anything for the rudder to be faulty
3.34 mil subs and they barely get 50 K views
@StoneBoiii420 that "lmao" was not genuine
Chibbs narration is wonderful 👍
a great caption knows his boat
All knowledge working with Sig paying big divedends for Jake Anderson best of luck to you Jake as a captain
Jake must have had a tough time getting back in that captain’s chair with those massive balls. Good fucking work .
When you can’t find the ravioli you put in your pocket. 4:07
Scot can't say skirt... LMFAO 🤣
I always feel saga is one the harder captains. But he is from literally green horn up. So that why he critical of the crew on his ship but safty and etc wise he will do everything to make sure each person is safe. He will even get of the wheel and sit people down and go through safty checks and alike. Even getting a body just to watch the wheel while he fixes stuff shows grate experience in safty
Awesome captain
Jake te lo merece ser Capitán has trabajado duro y sufrido mucho👍👍👍💯
jake is a hell of a damn engineer
Salute to the captain 👏he reminds all his crew where are their survivor suits /vest
I love Jake. He’s a good guy
Holy shit that laugh sounded just like Sig lol
Hard work pays off.
I have just watched this episode and i`m just wondering what had happened to the rudder? Jake decided to go back to the harbour to send down a diver to have a look, and i`m just curious what the mechanical problem was on the rudder down under the boat..
Jake has the Spirit of Sig in him.
I remember being 18 watching jake working as a deckhand with sig im 31 now
Does anyone else think Jake looks like Charlie from its always sunny in Philidelphia lmao
It did not actually happen during a storm. The producers actually stitched together two disparate events for the dramatic effect.
I just can’t get over HOW frik’n far they are out at sea. Driving from GA to FL is 580mi…all day drive. These guys are out at sea almost that far. How fast can that boat travel per hour? In a car I’d be doing 70mph. I don’t think that boat goes that fast. Scary feeling man. Long, long, boat ride😐
jake is coming into his own.
