Serena had a cover photo in 2015 Sports Illustrated as sportsperson of the year and she got a lot of backlash. Why is she in a swimsuit? She's not the best in her sport! She's manly. Etc etc. It was a mess full of misogynoir. I think this was just a way for Serena to own her feminity when Beyonce asked her to do this cameo.
