- I cannot get over this camera.
In this video, I show a mixture of image capture and image processing in Pixinsight as I slew over to Cygnus and image the North American Nebula. Could this be one of the best camera and telescope combinations for amateur astrophotography? Let's find out! -H

Can i capture Andromeda with smartphone?? By the way You are very beautiful!❤️❤️❤️👍
Looks great. Didn't get my telescope, but looking ahead and up.
Amazing image! And thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, I'm looking forward for each end every new video :-) keep on!!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Really glad you like my videos :)
The nose ring looks really cool! Coming from a guy with septum and lip rings and tattoos and long hair, also in a band, most people are quite shocked to find out that I mainly like to image space! \m/
Haha thank you Tim! Only a fake for now until I get a proper one :D
Breathtaking Shot of The Cygnus Wall!! Enjoyed The Video, As Always!👍🏻👍🏻🔭
Ah thanks so much!
Cute astro nerd AND she's Scottish? ( "Because if it's not Scottish it's..." ruclips.net/video/f1CR68NDgGg/видео.html ) SUBBED! Easy audio tip for rooms that echo that most people don't realize: It helps cancel out a lot of echo by not having the mic perfectly level which makes the cage around the mic pickup square to the walls. Instead, try tilting the mic at about 45° ( why the mic mount is angled like that! 😉 ) and pointed up towards one top corner of the room, that way sound doesn't bounce off the walls 180° right back at the internals of the mic... Any echo has to bounce again at 45° off the foam and outer cage of the mic and filters more echo out!😋
Hey Helena wonderful video and image and your becoming so good at this and one day you'll be teaching newcomers as I know that will happen in future! Great Scottish talent from a wee Scottish lass who loves astrophotography!
What's your ambition in astrophotography? My ambition is getting fantastic images from smartphone astrophotography as I've learned so much on smartphone astrophotography!
Wishing you clear skies in wee scotland and keep up the great work your doing!!!
1:31 try using a mostly pure molybdenum disulfide grease to grease those gears! Molybdenum disulfide AKA moly for short embeds into the surface of the gears, so once you apply it you rarely if ever need to mess with them again! It can be hard to find good pure moly grease, the stuff I use is Krytox 215 off Amaz... (can't post the full website name or youtube deletes the whole bloody comment) You only need a tiny dab the size of half a pea and wear gloves if you don't like the fashion statement of grey hands for days. 😜
Great capture, Helena! It looks like the mono world will treat you well!
I’m still in my first season of the hobby, so it’s still a OSC for now. I did buy a dual band filter for emission nebulae so we will see how that goes. I’ve also downloaded others mono data to practice with and you’re 100% correct. The opportunity for creativity is half of the fun. That’s the most enjoyable part of this hobby. It lives at the intersection of art and science. Couldn’t ask for more.
Nice video 😊very well done, awesome imiges, hopefully I could get something similar in the future thanks for the tips 😊.
Fantastic result Helena! Can't wait to try some of these PI techniques
Aw hey Ian! Thank you so much for tuning in. Hope you are feeling better!
Another great video, thank you. Do you have the link to Trevor’s RUclips video you refer too?
Congratulation Helena's,this video is really beautiful, really cute
Thank you so much!
Nicely done! My only concern is one day you will introduce yet another technique, and my feeble brain will try to process it and I will end up losing the ability to walk or some other critical function. (p.s. new piercing or not just noticed before?)
Haha thank you Dave! It is new, yes, but a fake on until I decide to get a proper one!
Your enthusiasm and passion for the hobby is infectious! Great result 👏👌
Aw thank you Kyle!
Great result ! I prefer the less saturated results too and it really shows the dynamic range of the qhy268m well that way. 💪🏼
I totally agree! Loving the images you are producing with it, they are so dreamy. Thanks for tuning in Dylan! 👊
@@HelenasAstrophotography Hi Girly, Greetings from Edinburgh, love your video's, what part of Scotland are you in, feel free to view my video's, here is a video for you, look in the description of it where you will find video links etc, here is the video ruclips.net/video/nrWMElSRwFg/видео.html
Absolutely amazed by your channel, keep up!
I'm loving the frequency of videos :)
Thank you! I will be back at school again soon, and it is easier when I'm off but the uploads will still keep coming when I have the time :)
If you have a chance to shoot in the US, I’d recommend either near McDonald Observatory, Texas, or Big Bend National Park. It has better than bortel 1 skies
I'll have to note these down for sure! Thank you very much for the suggestions.
Another gem! This latest round of dedicated astro cameras produce such amazing results. Beautiful image in post! Love the soft tones.
I’m so pleased you like it! :)
I love your accent. Anyway; your videos are awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Haha, thank you!
Hey Helena! - That's one heck of a nice first light, congratulations! - I can't wait to see how you progress when you own a few more filters too, I'll be following along eagerly :-)
I hope you are getting better weather than we are here, it's been cruddy!
All the best,
Luke
Hi Luke! Thanks so much for tuning in, and thank you for the kind words! All cloud here too :( wishing you clear skies asap! -H
Do you still use the Dobsonian anymore?
Damn girl, you killed it yet again. Part of me hates watching your vids because everytime I do, I become that much closer to dropping thousands on another setup. Love the pastel palette and I'm totally jealous of your qhy268m.......and the nose ring has you looking super pretty. Gotta get back on IG to check out you astro photos.
Nice pic 👍. It looks like a profile of someone looking at their phone... like I'm doing now 😊
Thank you!
Fantastic result Helena.
This shows that two colours are plenty. Great image!
I love your channel, where are you from, you have a lovely accent?
Thank you very much! I am Scottish :)
👍👍👍👍👍👍💕
Holyyyyy crap that looks phenomenal! I’m so glad to see how often you’re uploading these days
Thanks so much Joe!
@@HelenasAstrophotography no problem! Keep it up
Really want to image cynus wide field but theirs too much smoke in the air, and smoke particles can damage metals so its not recomended
I’m so sorry to hear about this smoke! Fingers crossed it clears soon.
@@HelenasAstrophotography Newtons third law: when theres a down theres an up, and when theres an up there's a down. So I expect too look forward to the clearest of skies every time there is little to non.
The moon should help push storms hopefully snuff out the fires and let the clouds take the smoke with them.
Nice job! For me astrophotography is the perfect blend of technology, science and art. It has provided me with a creative outlet.
I totally agree with this!
I just stepped up from a 6 inch to 14 inch and wow what a difference. Can't wait to start uploading videos with new scope. So much to learn
Go for it Christopher! It’s an awesome hobby 😁
I'm amazed for your work. I'll start un few days. I'm nervous
Thank you so much! Best of luck from me, you'll smash it!
@@HelenasAstrophotography I hope so
Beautiful picture. Very artistic.
Glad you like it Barry!
Beautiful work Helena! I think it’s great that more females are taking up astrophotography. You’re only a school girl but you’re already producing beautiful images and helping promote the hobby to other ladies, so well done you on many levels! Keep catching those photons young lady! Clear Skies! 🔥💯👍 Wes, Liverpool UK
Ah thank you so much Wes! The goal is to get more young people, and women into this hobby, so really appreciate you saying that. Clear skies!
Great! A script that I've never used before and I've never heard about!!!! I gonna try it right now on my latest NGC7000 ;-)
Hope it helps David! It's a lot of fun to use :)
Awesome, Helena! Thanks for the color masking tip! Didn’t know about this. Enjoy that awesome camera of yours!
You are so welcome! Glad you found it helpful :)
beatutiful result! great job!
Thank you! 😊
Nice job. I really need to get myself a decent camera. Scottish living in Canada, I'd love to capture some photos of the aurora borealis we get to witness where i am.
Thank you Ian! If you can, I would recommend getting your hands on a DSLR. Some are quite inexpensive these days, and they would be perfect for capturing the Aurora! That's one on my bucket list for sure.
Awesome photo Helena! I have to get PI myself haha
Nice image, Helena!
Ah thanks a tonne Kyle!
Nice image. So, have you migrated from Photoshop to PixInsight these days?
Thanks Cliff! I still use both, but Pixinsight more as I am trying to learn my way around it :)
Nice video Helena, I love the pastel pallette too, I have to say I prefer the last image you edited, both are fantastic and in awe of your talent and equipment 👏👍👌
I 100% agree! The pervious one's colour was nicer to look at. Thank you!
Well done content. You're doing great in AP and your videos are engaging and well edited. Well done, please keep it up.
Really pleased to hear you enjoy them Mark! Thank you.
Your bubbly personality is contagious! Great image Helena. Super videos. Smoke has been really bad from forest fires in Canada this summer, but I finally got my new 110mm refractor (first ever telescope purchase) out for a night. I just about fell down with excitement after seeing Jupiter and 4 of its moons for the first time. Such an addictive hobby! Dr B from Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks so much for the kind comment Brian. Really sorry to hear about the smoke where you are, I hope it clears up soon so you can get out with the scope more! First lights are one of the most exciting parts of astrophotography, really glad the gear is treating you well. Clear Skies! -H
@@HelenasAstrophotography we finally started getting some rain (drought conditions for the last 16 months - caused by Covid? Lol). Skies have finally cleared. I live in a rural Borttle 1-2 area, so I am super excited. Was very clear last night so I took my stuff outside and started to learn the ins and outs of the ASI Air Pro and 2600MC pro. Did my first ever polar alignment and the system plate solved easily. Now to learn auto guiding. I actually love the learning curve. Lots of fun. The quality of optics and technology just amazes me. Clear skies to you Helena!
Whoa, great image Helena!! You are doing so well👍🏻!!!
Thank you so much Barry!
Fantastic first light Helena!! Love the pastel pallette
Thank you so much Russell! So pleased you like it. Cheers for stopping by!
You blow my mind every time! I learn so much from you! Thanks so much!
Ah so glad Matt! Hopefully I can make more processing videos in the future :)
well done , great image !!
Thanks!
I wish I had your level of expertise
One year ago I was oblivious to all of this! I didn't cram all the information into my head overnight, but rather learned it along the way. Take the hobby at your own pace, and most of all enjoy it!
@@HelenasAstrophotography thank you Helena. That’s fantastic, trail & error leads the way. Take care.
Love that palette
Thank you so much!
Very nice image Helena
Thanks Peter!
Well done Helena 🙂👍
Thanks Marco!
Awesome!!
Thanks!
Woah space 🌌🚀👨🚀
Indeed! Space is awesome
@@HelenasAstrophotography agreed I might start learning astronomy soon
(Self study)
Nice One 👌
Thank you Jamal!
@@HelenasAstrophotography hey keep up the great work I find it quite interesting 👍
Helena, your beauty spans the entirety of infinity and beyond. May I ask of you a chance to partake in a romantic date?
Please consider my offer carefully, a love such as mine is as rare as watching C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
If you should say no, my sorrow will be like tears in the rain.
I just started looking into Astrophotography. It seems to me more like digital art. Take a snapshot of the sky then apply digital filters and photoshop and voila - everybody claps!!! LOL
You maybe have to look into it a bit more! The technical challenges required to acquire the data are huge. Also, it is never a snapshot! You have to take alot of images and stack them to provide a better signal to noise ratio as most of these objects are so faint. There is an artistic part to this hobby but it is real data and not something that is added artificially.
@@brianpreston4043 Where are the photographs of the planets and moon from the 10m VLT's? No editing would ne necessary with that size scope.
@@johnnym6700 You clearly are a troll with no concept of the challenges required to capture these images. Also, most of us don't have 10m telescopes, so we have to adapt.
@@brianpreston4043 Where are the photographs from any of the 10m VLT's??? There are none! I have my own Nikon P1000 and I capture excellent photos of the planets and moon - my camera is better than any of the VLT's! LOL (look into a mirror if you want to see a troll)
