    Oh! I can answer your question! I've been been playing FFXIV since 2013 and I've amassed 21,535 currently obtainable achievement points. When I think about doing 1000 Frontlines wins, I get sick to my stomach. I've been working on getting 100 Field of Glory wins since Stormblood. I'm at 90/100. There was one day where I played 19 matches and only won 1 time. I've realized I'm totally ok with only get 95% of the achievements in this game. I feel great since I made that decision. Now I can go back to what I enjoy most: jumping around the housing districts.

      Same. Thankfully Yoshida would likely promote from in his unit. And I think almost all of then share in his vision. The only way I see Yoshi P leaving is if he was made CEO of SquareEnix rather than just a member of the Board of Directors. It does seem like his passion for game development far outweighs his desire to be a corporate bureaucrat. And since FFXIV is Square's cash cow right now I don't see him being fired any time soon. He's basically the one person keeping the game from being monetized to hell though. I think if he steps back he'd want leave the game with a good legacy, and would just promote someone very likeminded.

      Yoshi saved the game from utter cancellation. Without his heroic efforts after the collapse in 2012, there would be no FFXIV anymore, it would simply not exist. The first game was played 1.0, by my friend Boone, and he said the game was very bad. On the server shutdown date, he was playing and the game kept crashing or kicking player off the servers due to poor traffic handling.
      He did manage to stay online for the final cutscene, but before that he was getting kicked every 30 minutes.
      Their software and hardware, neither one was up to standard.

    I am achievement collector who migrated from world of warcraft... because I finished it. I got every mount, pet, toy, achievement, and did it all. And to be honest the end of the path was somewhat hollow and the game devolved to where it was just trying to keep me in the game rather then being a fun game. FF14 on the other hand is still fun and keeps adding content with the intention to be fun and not to just occupy my time like WoW did. So as long as it stays like that and you balance your own gameplay to always have fun then it can be a rewarding experience.

    The day this uploaded, Yoshi P put out a statement about the benchmark update, even going so far as to say that the reason the benchmark update wouldn't be released until the third was because the Square-Enix building would be under inspection and without power, so they wouldn't be able to scramble and fix any issues the community's collective power could find within a quick turnaround time, when all he had to say was that some issues were discovered that caused them to delay it, yeah... The man has more than earned my trust. If he ever was forced out due to his health or the suits above him, I have a feeling a LOT of people would walk away from the game. I like to say that I don't trust Square-Enix but I do trust CS3 (Formerly CBU3). If anything happened to that team, I'd probably not be as invested in future projects by Square-Enix...

    • @dimwarlock

      I remember saying that I respected Square Enix... then I realized that FFXIV was the only reason I cared about the company, then I realized it was the work of a man that kept the game as pure as it can be on a corporate environment.
      Honestly, after the FFXV flop and FFXVI feeling like "meh" and me forgetting a lot about those two games almost immediately, it really feels like XIV is a whole different world on it's own... and the director has a lot to do with it, I just hope he can retire with dignity and leave the game in a respectable place when he does, so people remembers the before and after. Men in suits do not deserve praise for this gigantic piece of art.

    Few months ago, I helped a friend in getting the 5000 infused materia achievement by helping gather mats to make a ton of glamour prisms. The reason being that when you put equipment with materia infused into the glamour dresser, it instantly removes all the materia (but destroys it in the process too). So, they got all the 5 slotter equipment from Eureka and would infuse them, drop them in the dresser, then pull it out to infuse again. Was faster than trying to remove it, but more costly.

    Answering your question, I have ADHD, I cannot fathom long term goals the same way others can. I like to 100% most games I play however and my main feeling at the end of a long grind is relief, since I don't have to worry about it anymore. For instance, when I got all the achievements in Hades, I just stopped playing it immediately---my brain considered it 'done.' If I ever got to that point in FFXIV I would probably still login, but without actual goals I don't know how long I would be invested.

    Achievement hunter here at 90% (24k points)! Can confirm that the only achievements I have left are either long, tedious grinds or are PvP related.
    With Endwalker not adding many (fun) long-term achievements to go for, my progress has really slowed down. I resorted to redoing Eureka on an alt in order to retain my sanity.

    • @lens_hunter
      @lens_hunter 2 месяца назад

      I can't imagine being an achievement hunter in this game. Some of them seem long just for the sake of being long. I only do achievements that give me a reward I want. Like I collected all the cards because that card Mount is really cool.

    • @shirazan6314
      @shirazan6314 2 месяца назад +5

      @@lens_hunter I complain, but compared to a lot of other games I've played, most of the achievements game are pretty straightforward and reasonable. Complete this raid 10 times. Craft 1000 items in this level range. Get the relics on each class. It gives you goals to set out for, sometimes for things you'd never considered before (big fishing, BLU savage, mahjong, etc.) And that keep you really engaged.
      The nasty achievements stand out though. Why would I want to waste 50+ hours grinding out 20k hoards? Or 7+ years doing 17k leves? I have finite time on my hands and there are better things I can do with it. I've kinda had to take a step back and decide just to do the things I find fun. And maybe work on those big grinds reeeeeeally slowly.
      Edit: I've been informed that the 20k hoard grind takes closer to 350+ hours. Gross.

    • @RyuSaarva
      @RyuSaarva 2 месяца назад

      @@lens_hunter You can get most achievements if you just play the game and do all content for years.
      There are some exceptions that you don´t get unless you farm them for the achievement, like the deep dungeon hidden treasures, you would need around 800 full clears to get them.
      Leves can be done while waiting for duty finder to earn some gil, so those are not really bad.

    14:10 I'm currently 4th on lich and to answer your question, I have a irl full time job so it honestly at some point does almost turns into another job if your not careful, its good to have goals but its also good to set aside time for yourself, you can burn out and knowing when to stop for a while is key, this game has something for everyone, but that also means achievement hunters will at some point or another have to do something they don't like, I was around 24k points when I finished eureka not too long ago and you've already done it. Pagos still haunts me.
    If I have one piece of advice, do everything you won't be doing passively, like I never do roulettes now, why should I? I get tomes from hunts, and thats what I currently need.
    However! not just for the sake of time but also leave some of the core achievements last like the dungeons 10k one.
    Your doing them all the time anyway and its good to give yourself a reason to still do core content even at late game.

    I’ve been a gamer all my life basically, but I’ve only started really branching out in the last few years. For a long *long* time I only played WoW, FFX, and The Sims 3. Then I added FFXIV, and early on had a period where I was *obsessed* with trying new MMOs! Then for a few years it was just swapping between WoW and FFXIV. And after a while I slowed down with WoW and finally fully transferred to FFXIV as my main MMO.
    But in the last 5 years or so I’ve been growing my Steam library, and trying out and finishing new games! The first real game I ever played outside my norm, was Slime Rancher. Then Stardew Valley, then other similar farming games because I really like the genre…
    My Steam backlog continues to grow and I’m trying to break out of my usual routines during patch downtimes to play other games! I love finding new Cozy Games these days. There are a lot of short ones that can be done in a few long sessions or a week or so of short sessions.
    But now I have a good rotation of things! I still default back to FFXIV a lot of the time though. All this to say, playing *any* games at all makes you a Gamer! If you’ve been playing RuneScape for 20 years you certainly earned your Gamer Street Cred 😅!

  • @Xbob42

    It's cute that Cider thinks 5 years will be the point at which he'll likely be done because of levequests, when he still needs to get 20,000 pieces of the accursed hoard, something even people who spend all day streaming Deep Dungeon often aren't even close to getting. (I mean, it's not technically time gated, so that's a plus!)

    • @magnusaber1
      @magnusaber1 2 месяца назад +2

      You are not farming hoards by doing normal dds. If you put in an hour of not that focused grinding every day, you can do it in like a year. And most ppl will do it much faster than that once they get into it.

Before FF14, I had major fears of tanking, healing, raiding, and just any group content in general. The love for sprouts that this game fosters is what I love most, because it really does help me feel like I'm a member of a community, even when I like spending most of my time solo. i'm not a person who's HUGELY into achievements (esp MMO ones), so i can't say what it exactly feels like to be close to '100%ing' achievements or the like, but doing mini grinds like the splendorous tools is definitely very satisfying as a casual player. i wouldn't say i necessarily enjoy the process of doing them, but it IS something i'm capable of doing, and is something that is easily repetitive so it gives me something to focus on when i've 'nothing else to do'. and the tools look pretty. so. lol
    outside of MMOs, i would say i like getting achievements, and if i think i can do it, then i will indeed go out of my way to try 100%ing. granted, they're mostly single player stuff, so it's far less of a hassle, and way less of an actual grind, but getting closer and closer to 100% does feel pretty nice :)

I also did a bunch of collectibles, and now I only have 2 achievements left there: Gather 8000 collectibles and gather 10000 collectibles (I'm currently at 5,099).
    Beyond that I've been doing a few of the crafter achievements. And currently I am buckling down and doing the ARR gatherer achievements. I dual screen those and watch anime on the side to make the grind feel like less than a grind.
    As someone who has over 20k achievement points, I am not all that perturbed by the notion of getting everything. I play FF14 a lot with the intension of getting my moneys worth. If I complete it, I complete it.

Immense relief to be done, or pride, but also emptiness to have that part of my life be gone. Even if it wasn't always great. Some are just relief though. As for MMOs...nah. Even FFXIV, I just watch you because I find YOU interesting. I'm the type to get obsessed, so I've had to cut myself off. but even outside that there's just nothing that looks interesting to me atm.

    14:20 27000 Achievement Points myself, about 8 years in the making. I gave up on completing it all because pvp is just too frustrating for me. I am just doing whatever I want now, working on what I find fun - which happens to be everything but pvp and solo deep dungeons. And probably mahjong. It really helps not rushing things too, just make plans for each week for the longer grinds like Diadem or island sanctuary gathering. That way I can keep engaged even during content lulls.

    I still got years on the grind left, but each time I finish a big grind, it's a mix of feeling excited and relieved. Not a bad kind of relieved, but it's just nice to put a checkmark on something.

    It's funny that you say that you feel like a fake gamer cuz you only play a few games at a time, because I have the same feeling in the opposite way.
    I CONSTANTLY switch between games. Even though ffxiv is definitely the one I'm more consistent on in recent years, I still take breaks often to play other games, often not sticking with one for more than a few days or a couple weeks before switching unless something in it grabs my attention.
    I think I have more games "in progress" than anyone else I know, not because I don't like the game(s), but because my interest hasn't cycled back to them yet.
    Even now with FFXIV I might've stopped playing as soon as I finished MSQ, but the community and your series especially have kept me coming back to it and trying new things within the game, so thank you

    17:30 Honestly I'm kind of jealous of this mindset. I think being able to really commit to a single game would be cool, but I get incredibly depressed doing the same thing week in week out, even if that something is a game I love. Of course there's nothing wrong with bouncing between games, it's not a job, but it bums me out a bit to know there's so much content in a game I'm never going to touch, because I'll jump into something else before I get to it (and by the time I come back there'll be even more new content! So I'll never catch up!)

    my current goal in XIV is to hit 22,000 achievement points before dawntrail. i need just 210 more, and only 25 days to get em. ill be cutting it close! but yeah im kinda the same way as you, i play a few games a lot instead of a lot of games a little each. a few times a year, Nintendo or SquareEnix or maybe Fromsoft will release something big that i just gotta play, and i take my break from XIV to play the hell outta Zelda or Elden Ring. but i still do a couple dailies in XIV, and i always come back. all my friends are on Etheirys, all my discord groups are XIV-centered. if the game werent this good, i wouldnt have spent 6500 hours on it.

    right now my levequest goal is to do every unique levequest at least once. I did the math, and I can do that in about 171 days. but that's not even for the achievements, just to do all the leves. And I'm pretty sure Dawntrail will be adding more leves for DoH/DoL, because it's one of the best ways we have to grind. I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're not alone in the leve grind.

    The crazy man is legitimately going to be going levequests, not only throughout the entirety of Dawntrail, but the entirety of whatever the expansion after Dawntrail is AND a good chunk of the expansion after that.
    Also, the MMOs i've looked forwards too either have taken an eternity to come out [Ashes of Creation] or have done things so badly in other regions that it's clear they won't be good here [Lost Ark when it finally came out, Blue Protocol, Throne and Liberty]. I pretty much always eventually return to FFXIV, maybe i'll give WoW a dip again.

    Achievement hunter here with over 20k achievement points! I look forward to the day when I essentially have only some huge number achievements left because I don't feel bad plucking away when I'm able to. Stuff that is solo grindable (albeit tedious) is nice for my brain but also bad if I don't have time to work on them because I can feel the illusion of FOMO. If the day ever came that I somehow finished every or nearly every achievement, that's fine by me. I enjoy raiding and other content (that prevents me from grinding achievements efficiently), so I feel like there will always been something for me to look forward to (besides story). I've come to accept though that certain categories of achievements I'll likely never fully finish (PVP and Hunts) since I can't no-life this game anymore. 😂

    a) you can focus on other parts of the game, up the mentor runs (rest your soul) to keep content flowing b) what happens with the next expansion and what does it add to the achievement score, if you want a feel for time, figure how many achievements were added when the last expansion was setup, and take into consideration.

    regarding upcoming MMOs - Riot have been working on theirs for a while, but their early leadership left and they recently announced they're going dark until they're ready to show something. I'm interested in it mainly because League has a good base story/lore, and I've been playing it for years, so I'm hopeful if the MMO ever does see the light of day that it's something honestly good. (Too bad it will take like 5-10 years :D)

    Weekly update. Lalachievements score: 16,460.
    So, my inventory reached criticality again, and as is usually the case, I made a concession to get it back under control. Last time, that concession was to no longer hoard in-between crafting mats, basically ingots, lumber, thread and cloth, leather, etc. Stuff that is crafted, but is also only useful as a crafting mat. I didn't *throw out* anything, but I'd been leaving a ton of stuff on 1 in my retainers to "reserve the slot", and that was silly, so in the course of crafting stuff, EW crafting log prototypes, ARR furniture prototypes, and HW tradecraft leves, I've been slowly chipping away at my retainers' bloat, and that's freed up *some* inventory.
    But as I alluded to, it wasn't enough. In particular, a spearfishing project I went on last week to verify the minimum length (and, theoretically, the maximum length) of every spearfish in the game left me with only about 15 inventory slots. And so I made my latest concession: I moved all of the glams I'd been storing in a retainer, basically gear that I'd picked up that would be inconvenient to reacquire, stuff that doesn't go in the armoire, can't be bought from the calamity salvager, and isn't simply a duty drop or whatever, and I moved that into my armoury chest; everything but weapons, that tab is already basically full. This freed up about two pages of retainer inventory, which let me move a bunch of stuff around, and so in turn freed up about two pages of actual inventory space.
    And, what am I to do with more inventory space, but finally wrap up Splendorous Tools? Well, I say "wrap up", but the reality is that I'm not going to bother with the last two steps, because on-content expert crafts are beyond me... for now... maybe. We'll come back to that. Anyway, I got Resplendent: Brilliant Raising Hammer, Brilliant Alembic, and Brilliant Frypan. All tradecraft tools are now on the last two steps.
    However, I ran into a problem. Sort of. A problem for me. So, because I'm in melded scrip gear, rather than pentamelded crafted gear, in order to fully "HQ" the collectables for the Splendorous Tools, I need to eat crafting food. That means that I do these crafts in 30-minute bursts, where I can generally finish between 30 and 50 crafts, depending on how my luck goes and how actively I want to participate. When I started out, I was just using a two-step macro, and the only optimization was to recognize the first macro was done before the little chime and start the second macro. Doing this, I could do a couple more than 30 crafts in 30 minutes. By the end, I had a macro that does the opener, applying the buffs, getting progress to like 95%, and then I'd manually do the quality steps because they were pretty easy to remember and I could do them faster, and then I'd judge based on where quality was whether I could just cap it off myself, or if I'd run a short macro that would do the full "guaranteed 100%" macro, and I was pushing around 40 crafts per 30 minutes.
    Going into this last step, I had 2 food left, and I had 30 crafts to do for ALC, 30 crafts for CUL, and 17 crafts for ARM, which meant I needed to do 39 crafts in each window without fucking up. I started on the first set, and like 3 crafts in, all of my left-side gear spiritbonded. And, just, I know this isn't a problem for everyone, but it pained me not to immediately extract that materia, I wasted like 35 crafts' worth of spiritbond to ensure that I didn't fall short of my goal and need to waste a third food on like 2 crafts. When the food buff fell off, I extracted all the materia, then checked my right-side gear, and it was all at like 97%. The same thing was going to happen!
    So I set out to find some stuff that I could maybe craft, that wouldn't require a food buff. And... one thing led to another, and now I have a full set of pentamelded crafted gear... Also, I got I Got This! for pentamelding the first piece of that gear. It was... I mean, it was counterproductive. I needed a food buff initially to make the mats *and* to make the gear, but the way the windows worked out, I had a lot more spare time, so I just extracted the materia under the food buff when all my right-side stuff finished. And now I'm basically just committed to the bit, gearing up to craft myself fieldcraft gear to pentameld next...
    Anyway, aside from that... Well, for the ultimog challenge, I needed to clear Palace of the Dead to floor 100, which I hadn't done before. Some friends and I got together over the weekend and did that, and in the process, I got In Too Deep VI and Dead Tired. And doing my weekly custom deliveries, I picked up The Customer Is Always Right: Kai-Shirr II.
    And so that's where I'm at now.

    To answer the first question. I am well past 20k achieve points on lalachievements and almost everything exciting for me is done. All that is left is really grindy or obnoxiously hard achievements. So leve quests, pvp wins, and ultimates, ect (plus solo Orthos but that one is kinda enjoyable, only KINDA though.) I still enjoy the game and I make efforts to chew through achievements while finding fun in the game but it is really really hard sometimes. PVP is the only real meaningful part I enjoy currently with the rest honestly feeling like more of a chore than actual fun. Example being expert crafts being done manually for skysteel was fun then immediately going to respledent and its obnoxious how much you have to do so I am just macroing rather than hating the game. That being said I enjoy it vastly more than the thought of ever touching an ultimate. I've done hard content before and its miserable to me so if there is anything I never finish ultimates would probably be the one thing that stops me from 100% the game.
    As for quitting or moving on, I already quit once in SHB due to how ridiculous some of the things they added in were. The 1k S ranks achievement added is so anti hunter its not funny and DRS made me so miserable I didn't enjoy it at all. I came back in EW and I am here to stay though with the only way I would leave is major consistent bad changes or adding in anticheat in any form. I know modding is a touchy subject for some but I am more for allowing people to have it personally and anticheat doesn't even prevent it in every game I have played while also opening up your PC to a bunch of extra vulnerabilities just for.... a video game.

      My honest opinion for Cider or anyone wanting to do 100% of achievements specifically is spread out those long grinds. If you are set on doing everything then do PVP here or there. Pick up crafting/gathering as you feel like. But for the love of god don't save it ALL for the end. Right now is a great time to do Rival wings for example so get in 100 matches or even 50 everytime a mogtome event pops up for example. If you dont want 100% done though, then screw the long stuff XD

I've always enjoyed Runescape, so a new game from one of it's creators is absolutely something I would want to try, at least for a little while.
