Part 1 of 2. Classic Game Room reviews RED FACTION for the Playstation 2 PS2 video game console. This is the first and best review of Red Faction to feature a parody of the upcoming RedFaction game on the PS3 and Xbox 360 called Going Green Faction. The parody is funny because I felt like getting that keyword in here, funny that is. Ha ha. Red Faction is one of the best first person shooters on the PS2 and is regarded as one of the best of the shooter genre. FPS FTW as you kids say. You play as parker and slaughter Ultor without mercy, the evil big corporation keeping the miners on Mars down. Red Faction plays a lot like Total Recall in that it takes place on Mars, features oppressed miners and has lots of shooting and explosions. Rumor has it that there is a new Red Faction being released sometime in 2008 or 2009 by Volition and THQ called Red Faction 3 Guerrilla or something along those lines. Will it be on PS3, Xbox 360 and Atari 7800? Will it have multiplayer, footage scenes and animations, gamer points, 3d environments, geo mod technology, next gen things like the word next gen and HD visuals girls in bikinis? Whatever, I just want the RAIL GUN back and the ability to go through Ultor and raise hell. We'll have to wait and see what they do with it and if it's better than the amazing original, RED FACTION. called Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. I think I finished this game about 15 times. SUCH a good shooter
For me, one of the coolest aspects of the game was the way you could alter the terrain with rocket launchers. I remember me and my friend doing multiplayer and just had hours of fun shooting rockets for ridiculously long depths. I've never any game like this since....this was a really unique game.
Seconded. We used to have hours of fun building little areas and tunnel systems with a bunch of bots on.

Ah, my favourite shooter, how i've missed it. Years ahead of anything else.
They seriously need to make a reboot but in FPS. Keep the geo destructible environment from Red Faction Armageddon or Guerrilla but make it a FPS game with story campaign, co-op and MP. That game will sell like gold!

I don't think I'll ever enjoy playing a video game more than I did playing Red Faction. Definitely my favorite game of all time.
They should make a remastered edition of red faction!

Hell yeah, that's an excellent idea! Would buy it instantly! Red Faction 1 is one of my favourite FPS games of all time! RF2 wasn't nearly as good.

I remember all this stuff from the game. Definitely one of my favorites.
If they remake this game with ps4 graphics or just really bad ass graphic, I will rebuy it. I'm dying for it hahaha. Red Faction is a beautiful game, it is just the graphics that don't let you see that. I for real want a remake of this masterpiece.

One of my favourite FPSs, the original Red Faction. Such a great time was had with this game back in the day.
I played this game into the ground. Was a good halo alternative. 2nd game had a good multilayer but lame campaign mode. There on out it got worse and worse. Lol stick to the first one 👍

multiplayer on this game was absolutely amazing. i used to build tunnel systems by shooting through rock and hiding in them.

I was so pissed that they did not keep Parker in the Red Faction series. they should have stuck with the original formula.

9 years later im playing this on PS4. It's awesome. I was playing on Ps3 but didn't Know about blowing holes in walls where the yellow markings were painted. that makes it so much more fun.
Yeah I did the same. The multiplayer and single player bot skirmishes were both excellent aswell and gave it a tremendous replay value.
One of my favourite games of all time, while it pretty much went under the radar. :(
Just got my core2duo pc running again and downloaded this gem . Now playing it again for the first time since 2002. Quarantine makes you do things.
I love this game. One of the best PS2 FPSers for sure, and one of my favorite FPS in general.

this is probably my favourite FPS ever. I use to play the multiplayer mode by myself or with a friend and dig huge caverns for hours. And destroyed multiple controllers because of this game!

This was the first game that got me into RPGs. First time I woke up and thought 'That was a great story!" I need to get into Final Fantasy more but I'll rather get into Mass Effect 3 morerer?!?! when it comes out. Thanks for reminding me I spent alot of my life on games!
I am playing this on ps2 right now. So far it's really fun & the story seems to be really good. I feel as if I am really one of the miners in a desperate struggle to escape. Lol so is the part 2 worth playing??

In 2003, I was 3. I would sit and watch him play, and even play myself sometimes. I lost the game disk in what, '08? '09? Well, yesterday, I found that it was on Steam. I loved this game, and still do.

A remake of this game and resident evil 2 are the things I dream of. This is one of the most under rated games ever, I'd give it 9.5 out of 10 and I have a great taste in games. Not only one of the very best first person shooters but also one of the best adventure games, you come away really feeling as though youve just been through the greatest space adventure ever told.

I watched a handful of your reviews and you mention this game alot is it your absolute favorite? I am just curious because almost everyone has a different favorite and its always interesting to find out what it is so what is your favorite game of all time InecomCompany?
I remember playing the demo for this game that came with some issue of PC Gamer. Blowing up a bridge with a tank on it and watching it fall into a pit was the greatest thing ever. I would just mess around in this training area and dig tunnels. I thought it was the most amazing thing ever.
All I can think of when I see Red Faction is Total Recall too! Crazy good stuff.
I never had the ps2 but I purchased it today and this is one of the games it came with. I'll see if I can get into it. I have a PS3 and a ps4 as well but I always wanted a ps2 being that it was the only ps I never had.

Man, not yet. I purchased silent hill 2 because I always wanted to play it and another game and I kinda left this for later. On my next day off ill make sure I play this.
I just bought a PS2 too, had an Xbox and DC back in the day. Love my PS4 and X1 but PS2 and DC are the best consoles ever IMHO

I bought this off Steam yesterday, and it holds up quite well IMO. There's still people playing online and CTF with the destructible environments is as fun as ever.
You guys really need to make some T-shirts with that nifty Wind Squid logo! I know I'd buy one!
Such a brilliant game, I felt by the end of it that I had just been through the most amazing adventure. Very simelar to half life 2 in that respect, which is equally amazing. I hope the Red Faction series one day returns to its roots, and either does a remake of this with excellent graphics and physics or an all new epic Red Faction 3, as long as it learns from all of the mistakes the 2nd one had!

I just played through it for the first time.
Without Auto Aim. It was a hellish experience.
I'd used to just blow holes in the walls really deep and make them twist and turn so nobody could get me, and I'd get the rail gun and just snipe everyone.
Multiplayer on this game was awesome. Me and a friend of mine would play it all the time :D
Have a lot of nostalgia for this game, my first proper FPS on PS2, great to play at time, and good storyline. That said, some of the Enemy AI was bad, and the geo-mod, though a potentially a great idea was so, so over rated in practice. Have fond memories of it, but don't think it has aged well compared to Half-Life.
I miss this game.. To bad part 2 & 3 can't even come close to this master piece.

Any game set on Mars is my friend. I also miss when developers put all the effort into the single player campaign.
I played this back when i was like 8 and i lost my memory card for the ps2 so i every time i died i had to start the game over lol its crazy to have found this game sum 10 years later and see what it was actual about.
Haha I did that too, making your own cave was so fun. It had a bit of strategic value too.

After hearing nothing but good things about Red Faction for years, I caved in and got myself a copy. Currently my precious gaming lair is in a state of disrepair, but once that's cleaned up I'll be shooting colonists on Mars to my heart's content.
Also, I knew Mark would make a few Total Recall jokes in his review here. That's so like him ^_^
The shotgun from Halo 3 copies the sound from Red Faction... THAT'S HOW AWESOME THIS GAME IS!!!!!
Good review, I'm sold! Reminds me of my old favorite game HALF-LIFE. For some reason I never picked up this game when I was a kid not sure why. Well STEAM has it for $2.50

Is it true that with enough explosives, you can make your own paths through the game? Like, to get into a room you could blow a tunnel down and under the wall?
